| Republicans and conservative groups rebuffed President Obama’s latest attempt to pressure GOP lawmakers to back down from using the debt ceiling as leverage to extract serious, long-term spending cuts from Democrats. After a White House news conference Monday in which the president called Republican threats to hold the line on the nation’s borrowing “irresponsible,” Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Kentucky Republican, said he couldn’t think of a better opportunity than the upcoming fight over raising the debt limit to force Democrats to address the deficit.

Isn´t a balanced approach to deficit reduction increased taxes, and reduced spending, at least in Obama´s words.
We´ve got the tax increases, so how is the Congress being obstructionist by insisting on cutting spending?
First, let´s get rid of zero based budgeting, where it automatically goes up a certain percentage every year. Let´s replace it with a plan where the budget increase can´t exceed the sum of inflation and population increase. Works for Colorado, works for me.

Yes we got the tax increases but if you listened to the bozo yesterday you would have heard him say he wanted more tax money by getting rid of deductions. With him, it´s always "I want more money to waste".

Remember when Obama and the media ripped Romney for saying Chrysler would be making cars in China. Guess what,it was announced yesterday.
the whole idea that we need huge,sweeping new gun laws if it saves one kids life is ludicrous.Nobody like seeing kids getting killed but it´s always going to happen simply due to random chance.You can´t pass enough laws so that nobody ever suffers a tragedy.
If Obama was consistent on saving kids lives,like being against abortion,I might be willing to support him more on this.This is pure political exploitation and a battle he´s going to lose.
School districts all over the country are wanting armed people at schools. This makes a lot more sense than a gun ban where criminals still get guns.

An IRS supervisor working in Washington told congressional investigators that she personally reviewed applications from groups for tax-exempt status, in testimony that appears to show the agency’s scrutiny of conservative groups extended beyond the confines of the office in Cincinnati. Holly Paz, who was a supervisor in the Internal Revenue Service’s tax-exempt status division, indicated during an interview with congressional investigators that she did review such applications, but indicated that she believed “tea party” meant political advocacy in general — not necessarily conservative groups.

Syria is turning out to be a sort of Spanish Civil War of our age, with Hezbollah and Iran playing the role of fascist Italy and Germany, and the Islamic nations and jihadists that of Stalin’s Russia, as the moderates disappear and the messy conflict becomes a proxy war for greater powers, with worse to come. There were always problems for the Obama administration intervening in Syria besides the usual bad/worse choices in the Middle East between authoritarianism and Islamic extremism and the president’s own preference for sonorous sermons rather than rapid action
