President Congeniality talks tough
Washington Post, by Dana Milbank

Original Article

Posted By:Dreadnought, 1/14/2013 10:02:17 PM

“I’m a pretty friendly guy,” President Obama said near the end of his White House news conference Monday afternoon. The claim might have been a touch more plausible if he hadn’t spent the bulk of the previous hour demonstrating just how adversarial he could be. Indeed, there was no precipitating event that led him to schedule the last-minute session in the East Room — lending credibility to the theory that he summoned reporters so he could bait Republicans. “If congressional Republicans refuse to pay America’s bills on time, Social Security checks and veterans benefits will be delayed,”

FTA: "His first-term experience made clear that he gained nothing from Republicans when he took a passive approach." And that was when? Obamacare discussions? Uh, no Republicans. "You have to sit in the back of the bus"? Yeah, that´s passive. Fiscal cliff? Milbank and Obama are both first class tools.

Malarkey. SS is a separate fund, you dishonest crook. More garbage from the Administration that has steadfastly refused to pass a budget.

The only cuts the left is in favor of are slashing the Pentaton that is now fully engaged at humping Hagel through approval.
I don´t ever remember a gov´t dept.openly pushing for a nominee to be approved.

It´s oxymoronic for the Pentagon to be pushing for someone who will slash their budget. You´ll never see this in another gov´t dept. These cuts are really aimed at republican owned contractors. That´s why the leftist establishment at the Pentagon are all for it.I´m sure the 10,000 lawyers they have won´t get laid off.

Of course it doesn´t bother anyone that Obama´s engaging in another covert war in Africa without congress being notified.I guess we owe France a favor for bombing Libya,in another undeclared war.

Soc Sec is self-supporting, except it is cash poor. It is now paying benefits from its IOU stash because the cash flowing in each month is not enough. And guess where that money comes from...so, the threat of non- or reduced payments is real. And I say let it happen, instead sending up bills containing freezes and cuts to cover each month´s "needs" for entitlements. Let Harry say they´re DOA in the Senate...

Why is it that the SS checks and military pay will be delayed? Will Obama´s paycheck be on time? Will Congressman and Senators get their checks direct deposited right on schedule? What about government employees, will they get their checks right on time? What about welfare checks, got to have those on time! Never a threat to any of these, just the military and the old folks.

FTA: "... “If congressional Republicans refuse to pay America’s bills on time, Social Security checks and veterans benefits will be delayed,”…"

That is really getting to be repetitious. The first words out of his mouth anytime there is talk of budget control.

Of the ´47%´ the group that draws SS and veterans benefits are probably the only legitimate group getting government checks. How about the ´35%´ of the ´47%?´
How about delaying their checks. Oh, wait!!! THEY might throw a hissy fit!

I´m confused by his statement about the pubs not collecting a ransom in exchange for not crashing the economy. We don´t want the economy to crash and if obama keeps up his spending like he is, it probably will
crash.

It´s obvious his handlers have instilled in him how important it is to continue spending out the wazoo to bring the US to its knees. Spending cuts? Ha! He doesn´t want to go there under any conditions.

How about the way he began his patronizing to the liberal reporters by using their first names? Fox did a great job of doing the split screen of both parties when each reporter kept asking about his non-negotiating stance which showed his sour expressions.

Bamster is getting more weird by the day/conjuring Captain Queeg, when he says he´s a "friendly guy" and "loves a good party" considering the condition the nation is in.

Note that Milbank, unsurprisingly, does NOT criticize BO´s message; just the way in which it was delivered. He doesn´t like Republicans and BO is obviously not reaching out to them. This is an observation that we are in for four more years of gridlock, which should have been starkly obvious before the election.

The question to BO is, "What will you do differently in a 2nd term to get things done?" The answer is, "Nothing!" , except be even more obnoxious. Milbank refers to FDR as approving but the outcome of FDR´s policies were a prolonged and deepened Depression. So yes, bullies and thugs can get their way but that doesn´t mean the outcome is desirable.

Those who think that SS is self-supporting might want to look again. It hasn´t been it´s own program since that great dimocrat LBJ made it part of the general treasury...since then, it´s been a Ponzi scheme.

Poster 16 makes an excellent point! Send home the government workers first - start with EPA, Dept. of Energy, Dept. of Education, etc. and see if anyone notices after 6 months.

We have seen only the beginning of this. As long as the press and the Senate have his back, he can do whatever he wants. And rest assured: He will.

Journalist Michael Hastings was killed early Tuesday morning in a bizarre car incident in Los Angeles. Hastings, 33, was best known for writing the Rolling Stone story that ended in Gen. Stanley McChrystal’s resignation as head of U.S. forces in Afghanistan. Hastings’ final story, “Why Democrats Love to Spy on Americans,” was a searing take on the NSA snooping scandal, which Hastings described as “North Korea-esque.” Hastings pulled no punches as he linked the NSA scandal to the Department of Justice’s spying on reporters and the IRS abuse scandal. Hastings built a case that the same Democrats who turned Bush-era

An IRS supervisor working in Washington told congressional investigators that she personally reviewed applications from groups for tax-exempt status, in testimony that appears to show the agency’s scrutiny of conservative groups extended beyond the confines of the office in Cincinnati. Holly Paz, who was a supervisor in the Internal Revenue Service’s tax-exempt status division, indicated during an interview with congressional investigators that she did review such applications, but indicated that she believed “tea party” meant political advocacy in general — not necessarily conservative groups.

The Supreme Court ruled today in Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council that federal law does not allow states the option of requiring voters to prove they are American citizens when they register to vote. The National Voter Registration Act of 1993 (NVRA, or “Motor Voter”) creates a standardized national system for registering to vote in federal elections. It allows for registration three ways: (1) in person, (2) when you get your driver’s license, or (3) by mail. The Election Assistance Commission (EAC, created by a later federal law in 2002)

WASHINGTON — The National Security Agency sweeps up data on millions of cellphones and Internet communications under secret court orders. But as it mounts a rigorous defense of its surveillance, the agency has disclosed new details that portray its efforts as tightly controlled and limited in scope, while successful in thwarting potential plots. On Sunday, officials said that though the NSA is authorized to collect "geolocational" information that can pinpoint the location of callers, it chooses not to. A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
