During a press conference in the White House on Monday, President Barack Obama warned Congressional Republicans not to hold the debt ceiling limit hostage in order to secure concessions on spending cuts from the White House. He spelled out what not increasing the debt limit would mean, and said clearly that the GOP in Congress “will not collect a ransom” from the president by holding the debt ceiling hostage. (Snip) “If Congressional Republicans refused to pay America’s bills on time, Social Security checks and veterans’ benefits will be delayed,” Obama said. “We might not be able
Comments: 0bama is even more obnoxious than usual. Who knew that was even possible.
i do not think the repubs will cave on the debt ceiling...............obama can mouth bull during his press conf......that doesnt make it so.......if he wants to cut the spending.....really cut it...START WITH WELFARE...................and do a budget
Let mr Obamaham Lincoln run his mouth. He will be trounced at the ballot box in 2014 when melanin is not on the ballot. Remember how popular this guy was when he started spouting off about the Cambridge Police Department?
He said we are no a deadbeat nation. However, that´s exactly what we are. Those who do not make enough to pay their own bills have learned they can vote money out of the pockets of the productive, and they are doing it.
For the millionth time, the Republicans do not have the power to do much. Boehner is incorrectly spelled by some moronns on this site and if they watched, read and listened they would have heard John and Mitch out in front. Posters denigrating our side are a big part of the problem.

#14, he didn´t sound scared at all to me. If anything, he sounded comfortably arrogant, condescending and lecturing to the unwashed like the fifth-rate university whatever he was. I half-expected him to declare that Executive Orders would be used if Congress would not do his bidding and to fold his arms like Mussolini. (He will anyway). Welcome to Fascist America.
I don´t see the GOP getting anything out of the debt ceiling talks. Evil people in the WH can cause tremendous pain on the public and blame it on the Republicans. With Lew at Treasury doing Obama´s bidding on what gets funded we could see real harm inflicted beyond stopping social security checks.
I´m with number 11. Where are the Republicans, what is their proposal, why is it better than Obama´s? We can´t beat somebody like Obama if our guys are cowering under their desks rather than engaging in the battle of ideas.

Make no mistake...Zero´s mission is to crash the economy, to benefit his funders like Soros (and others), strip Americans of their rights in a New Fascist State, and foment the Islamic Caliphate (the end of Israel and much of Europe).
Guess the name-calling of Republicans is down to a science, eh? It´s a shame that some don´t seem to have as much disgust for the criminal enterprise known as the obama-administration and his minions in the "msm", as they do while constantly denigrating the Republicans in Congress. No wonder the GOP can´t seem to win an argument. They are surrounded by cheap-shotters on all sides, including some "conservatives". The "msm", the demonrats, obama and every "news" network with the possible exception of (at times) FNC, are on constant attack. That is the same attitude that got the most anti-American president in the history of this country RE-Elected! Pathetic.
OK--I´ve not read this whole thing, but the headline makes no sense to me. Let´s see: The GOP is supposedly holding "Not Crashing the Economy" hostage. Zero is refusing to "pay" the ransom they supposedly want...? So, he´s saying he has the power to keep the economy from crashing, but he´s not going to do it?
The real hostages are the few popular government programs that he listed. He is signalling that he will cut the muscle - the military pay etc and leave the fat - welfare programs, food stamps acorn etc - untouched when there is not enough money to go around. He is exactly like any municipal politician who makes the first cuts to fire and police protection so as to leave the useless pencil pushers untouched. I say lets have the showdown with this grifter now. Pass a budget showing where real cuts can be made to live within our means and then refuse to pass any increase in the debt ceiling. Let all the howling die down in a month or so then perhaps there will be some negotiations and less demagoguery.
I´m with #15 and #25 in being fed up with all the anti-Republican trash talk from self-described conservatives. A house divided against itself cannot stand. Many Republican officeholders are trying to resist the Marxist takeover. But Obama enjoys the long legacy of gradual change in our government which has resulted in an imperial presidency, with an unequal share of power. All it takes is for an evil opportunist with "audacity" to exploit the situation. We conservatives need to stand together to fight his takeover, not to undermine any and all efforts by our representatives to resist him.
#15 based on the posts at this site, most don´t agree with you. I have been listening, reading and watching and I see are two useless jerks....BOEHNER and MCCONNELL. I think it is time to replace Mitch with Cruz and Boehner with West.
BO says Va and SSI payments may not be paid if the debt limit is not raised! I bet the department of energy, department of education, department of commerce, pensions for gov retirees, and the EPA are all are all fully paid! All BO´s cronies!
Perhaps the posters criticizing the steers would not be so critical if the steers had won a single bout with the moron.
Why are they not bringing impeachment proceedings? Why are they not proposing any legislation to stop the guy? Why are they not cutting off funding to Zerocare? Many more questions could be asked. They are not weak because they appear to be weak. They really are weak and, in my opinion, just want to keep their cushy jobs.
He never includes himself or his cronies into the mix. There´s no worry that their pay checks will not be funded. Congress controls the purse strings - so cut out all the vacations this do nothing president and his family take several times a year. That alone would reduce the deficit!!!
Says the man trying to shut down 5% of US power while spending 10s of billions for expensive energy that can not compete. I personally would raise the debt ceiling $4 billion for every week he suspends ALL environmental rules. For a year delay of rule he has added, I would give him 108 billion. The economic growth would easily recover this amount. The GOP should throw this out and point out that this is more than he got from the ending the payroll tax holiday and tax on the rich combined.
That is part of the problem with Comrade O, he is too well protected, too shielded too comfortable. It is way past time to lob a grenade of reality into his small little fantasy world. One that isn´t just a flash bang...they all need to be shook up.
President Obama has recalled John Podesta to work at the White House as a “counselor.” Podesta is the Clinton hand who founded the far-left Center for American Progress (home of the clownish Think Progress blog). Podesta’s appointment, which needs no congressional approval, comes at a time when Obama is already making moves to do without Congress. He has used executive actions to re-write Obamacare, and to recalibrate immigration law, both in ways that just happen to favor either himself or the Democrats. The New York Times reports that Podesta will work on executive actions when he returns to the White
On CNN’s “Reliable Sources” on Sunday, new host Brian Stelter turned to President Obama the press critic. At the end of his cakewalk “Hardball” interview last week, Obama called out the media for being divisive. “The American people are good and they are decent. And yes, we get very divided partly because our politics and our media specifically tries to divide them and splinter them.” Stelter asked a decent question about whether that was an odd statement to make on divisive MSNBC. NPR television critic Eric Deggans shot that down, insisting MSNBC was a “great place” to attack cable news
Former CIA Director Leon Panetta revealed classified information at a 2011 awards ceremony attended by Zero Dark Thirty filmmaker Mark Boal, according to documents obtained by the conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch. The CIA allowed Boal, the screenwriter of Zero Dark Thirty, to attend a June 24, 2011 award ceremony celebrating the successful raid on Osama bin Laden’s hideout in Abbottabad, Pakistan that May. A transcript of Panetta’s speech that night obtained by Judicial Watch is labeled “top secret,” and significant portions of it are redacted. At the conclusion his speech, Panetta told the audience, “You have made me proud
UPDATE: Rep. Paul Ryan and Sen. Patty Murray unveiled a budget proposal Tuesday night. The proposal, which has yet to be voted on, busts through sequester caps, setting FY 2014 spending at $1.014 trillion — billions beyond the levels mandated by sequester. The proposal contains no mention of pension reform. Conservatives had better start paying attention to the budget battle raging in Washington: If things go south — and they are poised to do just that — the tea party’s single greatest policy victory, the sequester, could be destroyed. And worse yet, it could be destroyed in exchange for nothing. The sequester
Approval of ObamaCare in the United States has risen eight percentage points in the last month, according to a new poll. Thirty-nine percent of people now approve of the law, according to a CBS News/New York Times poll released Tuesday evening. Half of the public, by contrast, disapproves of ObamaCare, the poll found. Nearly 60 percent say they don’t think the sign-up process for ObamaCare is going well, but more than one-third say it’s improving. These figures come in just ten days after the administration touted the repaired federal portal for the insurance, HealthCare.gov. Obama’s general job approval rating has increased to 42 percent,
Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), in an appearance on MSNBC´s "PoliticsNation" on Friday, condemned former Sen. Rick Santorum´s comments comparing Nelson Mandela´s fight against apartheid to the fight against Obamacare as "shameful." "And actually if I was going to make a comparison, I would make the opposite comparison, because I think the struggle for justice, which Nelson Mandela led for so many years is similar as the struggle for the health care as a right for people in the richest country in the world, and so the idea that they would make that comparison in the opposite way is just tragic,"
According to a new Rasmussen Report, the majority of Americans do not believe the deportation of illegal immigrants living in the United States is aggressive enough. More than 20 House Democrats last week urged President Obama to halt the deportation of illegal immigrants until Congress passes a comprehensive immigration reform plan, but voters by a two-to-one margin oppose that idea. Most already think the federal government is not vigilant enough in deporting those who are in this country illegally. Only 29% of Likely U.S. Voters think the government should stop deporting illegal immigrants until Congress passes an immigration reform plan.
On his way to the podium at the memorial ceremony for former South African president Nelson Mandela, President Obama walked down the line of dignitaries, greeting other leaders there to pay their respects. Among the hands shaken: that of Cuban leader Raul Castro. Obama neither made a special effort to shake Castro’s hand nor to avoid him. A snub might have been awkward: In his speech, Obama praised Mandela’s “greatest gift” as “his recognition that we are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; that there is a oneness to humanity; that we achieve ourselves by
The Obama State Department has finally released a second round of photos revealing the harrowing devastation wrought by a terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi on Sept. 11, 2012. The new photographs depict rampant damage to the consulate. They show charred walls, smoldering fires, Arabic graffiti defacing exterior walls, and scattered debris throughout. The extent of the damage would lead any reasonably serious person to conclude that this was a cold, calculated attack, carefully coordinated to mark the 11th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001. Unfortunately for the American people, the Obama-Clinton-Rice cabal that led to the Benghazi cover-up was
A black fashion student says he was brutally attacked by a gang of Hasidic men who shouted anti-gay slurs at him while he was walking through Williamsburg after a night of partying, the Daily News has learned. Taj Patterson, 22, was headed home to Fort Greene around 4:30 a.m. on Dec. 1 when he says more than a dozen ultra-Orthodox Jewish men began assaulting him on Flushing Ave. and yelling, “Stay down, f----t!”
A “presidential selfie” featuring President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron, and Denmark’s Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service began making the rounds this morning, but it’s the person not included in the frame who caught everyone’s attention: As anyone with two eyes and a Twitter account has noticed, Michelle Obama does not appear amused. Of course, though a picture says a thousand words, not all of those words are necessarily true. FLOTUS might not have even known the photo was taking place. Or she could disapprove of funeral selfies. Either way.
Just how much do many Hollywood liberals hate conservatives? In an interview with Playboy, Ben Affleck said, "When I watch a guy [on film] I know is a big Republican, part of me thinks, I probably wouldn’t like this person if I met him": PLAYBOY: You developed a political profile campaigning for presidential candidates Al Gore, John Kerry and Barack Obama. How did that come about? AFFLECK: I grew up in a house with a mother who was a teacher and a Freedom Rider—very left-wing Democrats living in a heterogeneous working-class neighborhood. I picked up a lot of those values there, and I
MSNBC host Melissa Harris-Perry opened her program over the weekend with a commentary about the Affordable Care Act’s colloquial moniker: “Obamacare.” She said that the word was originally created as a “derogatory term,” designed by white men as a way to delegitimize President Barack Obama and his achievement. However, she said that the term will soon be synonymous with all of Obama’s accomplishments and she urged her audience to use the term with pride. “I want to talk today about a controversial word. It’s a word that has been with us for years, and like it or not, it’s indelibly
Barack Obama has arrived in South Africa to lead the American delegation at a memorial service for former South African President Nelson Mandela in Johannesburg. But his party is reportedly stuck in traffic and he is said to have arrived late at the stadium for the ceremony. [Snip] But Mr Clinton, Mr Carter and his wife Rosalynn have all traveled separately to the event. According to reports, Mr Obama and his delegation are stuck in a lines of traffic caused by tens of thousands of people making their way to the event. Mr Obama is among the foreign leaders who
