During a press conference in the White House on Monday, President Barack Obama warned Congressional Republicans not to hold the debt ceiling limit hostage in order to secure concessions on spending cuts from the White House. He spelled out what not increasing the debt limit would mean, and said clearly that the GOP in Congress “will not collect a ransom” from the president by holding the debt ceiling hostage. Without a bulldog press Obama can work his will unchallenged.

The low information voters (morons) don´t have a clue and happily dance to his merry tune.

This is the power the Dems hold.

That said, the GOP should publically offer to raise the ceiling in exchange for Keystone approval. Make Barry twist in the wind.

I watched him today. I usually can´t stand to listen to him, but today I heard something different in his trying to repeat the memorized answer he was given to blather.

He sounded scared, really scared.

It was like being caught doing something wrong by his mother and he sounded like a scared little kid trying to lie his way out of a situation.

For the millionth time, the Republicans do not have the power to do much. Boehner is incorrectly spelled by some moronns on this site and if they watched, read and listened they would have heard John and Mitch out in front. Posters denigrating our side are a big part of the problem.

I don´t see the GOP getting anything out of the debt ceiling talks. Evil people in the WH can cause tremendous pain on the public and blame it on the Republicans. With Lew at Treasury doing Obama´s bidding on what gets funded we could see real harm inflicted beyond stopping social security checks.

Guess the name-calling of Republicans is down to a science, eh? It´s a shame that some don´t seem to have as much disgust for the criminal enterprise known as the obama-administration and his minions in the "msm", as they do while constantly denigrating the Republicans in Congress. No wonder the GOP can´t seem to win an argument. They are surrounded by cheap-shotters on all sides, including some "conservatives". The "msm", the demonrats, obama and every "news" network with the possible exception of (at times) FNC, are on constant attack. That is the same attitude that got the most anti-American president in the history of this country RE-Elected! Pathetic.

OK--I´ve not read this whole thing, but the headline makes no sense to me. Let´s see:
The GOP is supposedly holding "Not Crashing the Economy" hostage. Zero is refusing to "pay" the ransom they supposedly want...? So, he´s saying he has the power to keep the economy from crashing, but he´s not going to do it?

Puh-leeze. This article *should* have begun w/ an ´opening sentence´ gleaned from another of today´s news articles...

"“Late Friday evening, Deputy Director Zients confirmed that for the fourth time in five years, the president’s budget will not be submitted in compliance with the law,”

So to recap, Obama demands ´no ransom!´ or he´ll not obey law?

The only surprise here is that Obama hasn´t forcibly taken over David Letterman´s job so he can posture nightly on national television...

The real hostages are the few popular government programs that he listed. He is signalling that he will cut the muscle - the military pay etc and leave the fat - welfare programs, food stamps acorn etc - untouched when there is not enough money to go around. He is exactly like any municipal politician who makes the first cuts to fire and police protection so as to leave the useless pencil pushers untouched. I say lets have the showdown with this grifter now. Pass a budget showing where real cuts can be made to live within our means and then refuse to pass any increase in the debt ceiling. Let all the howling die down in a month or so then perhaps there will be some negotiations and less demagoguery.

I´m with #15 and #25 in being fed up with all the anti-Republican trash talk from self-described conservatives. A house divided against itself cannot stand. Many Republican officeholders are trying to resist the Marxist takeover. But Obama enjoys the long legacy of gradual change in our government which has resulted in an imperial presidency, with an unequal share of power. All it takes is for an evil opportunist with "audacity" to exploit the situation. We conservatives need to stand together to fight his takeover, not to undermine any and all efforts by our representatives to resist him.

Says the man trying to shut down 5% of US power while spending 10s of billions for expensive energy that can not compete. I personally would raise the debt ceiling $4 billion for every week he suspends ALL environmental rules. For a year delay of rule he has added, I would give him 108 billion. The economic growth would easily recover this amount. The GOP should throw this out and point out that this is more than he got from the ending the payroll tax holiday and tax on the rich combined.

The revelation that the government’s talking points in the wake of the Benghazi attacks were edited to reflect the concerns of a variety of federal agencies has sparked a firestorm of controversy in recent weeks. Some early reports on that email exchange created the erroneous impression that the White House was more deferential to the concerns of State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland, who sought to remove from those talking points a variety of references suggesting the Benghazi attack was the result of a coordinated act of terror. The actual interagency email exchange, released by the Obama administration on Wednesday,

DENVER — Colorado sheriffs upset with gun restrictions adopted in the aftermath of last year’s mass shootings filed a federal lawsuit Friday, challenging the regulations as unconstitutional. The lawsuit involves sheriffs from 54 of Colorado’s 64 counties, most representing rural, gun-friendly areas of the state. The sheriffs say the new state laws violate Second Amendment protections that guarantee the right to keep and bear arms. Opponents are criticizing the lawsuit as political maneuvering. The filing targets Colorado laws that limit the size of ammunition magazines and expand background checks. The regulations

WASHINGTON – Jay Devereaux hadn’t paid much attention to the daily drumbeat of partisan politics in D.C. He wasn’t a Washington nerd, and didn’t know who said what during congressional hearings -- nor did he care. But when news broke that the government was using taxpayer money to bail out Wall Street banks, he started paying attention and didn’t like what he was hearing. So the Florida father and information technology specialist decided to form a group, Unite in Action, to educate people in his area about the issues, he said.

WASHINGTON — Congressional Republicans, not resting with the Internal Revenue Service scandal, are moving to broaden the matter to an array of tax malfeasances and “intimidation tactics” they hope will ensnare the White House. Republican charges range from the clearly questionable to the seemingly specious, and they grow by the day. On Friday, lawmakers sought to tie the I.R.S. matter to the implementation of President Obama’s health care law, which will rely heavily on the agency. Whether they succeed holds significant ramifications for Mr. Obama,

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says it wants as many as 20 percent of its workers to "telework," use an "alternative work schedule," or do both, in order to "reduce green house gas emissions," decrease "employee stress," and give these government workers more time for "planning and preparing healthy meals." So says one of the HHS "performance measures" detailed in an appendix to the department´s latest strategic plan. HHS´s performance measure "4.D.05" says: "Increase the percent employees on telework or on Alternative Work Schedule." Telework means working from home via phone and computer.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,
