| The Air Force is canceling all nonessential travel, conferences and research and is cutting its budget for base maintenance in half to deal with the threat of drastic, automatic spending cuts due to begin March 1, the service’s chiefs say. In addition, the Air Force will have to slash its flying hours by 18 percent and its aircraft maintenance by 17 percent if the spending cuts occur, Air Force Secretary Michael B. Donley and Gen. Sequestration, Congress´s way to scare US by cutting back on Military readiness. If the members had a "no-gun-zone around them, cabinet leaders drove regular cars not armored up and sent their kids to public school, then, I might see we´re all in this together. But, I would always feed our troops first before US.

Its been a while since I was around an AF base, but why go after the planes first? Why not cut out new office furniture, useless office renovations, painting contractors, biofuel vehicles, interior decorators and landscaping contractors? Not to mention the environmental offices and hazmat contractors who get rid of the paint and break light bulbs? What about the environmental types who would not let us dig fox holes because it might disturb the water table and historic dirt? Are they still on the payroll?
How about the people who keep changing the uniform?
Lots of waste in the AF.

when I was in the AF, we did our own cleaning, grass cutting, painting and equipment maintenance. Get enough demerits and yep you would be on the saturday work crew doing what ever need doing. This is getting to be as bad as pre WWII when they "practiced" with broom sticks for rifles.

Since none of the Europe based US Air Force installations were available to help in Benghazi, I guess most if not all can be downsized or closed long before any installation in the US or the Middle East is impacted...save the Turkey installations for the time being and maybe they will learn how to bow to our continued presence as the rest of Europe whines from the economic loss...two more US Navy aircraft battle groups roaming from the Eastern Med up past the UK towards Finland oughta compensate for the AF closures in Europe...keep the EuroWeenies guessing about ports of call...oh, and close the US Army installations too…

Congress needs to lift most of the environmental compliance and management requirements from the military, so that the money can go to mission-essential needs. I don´t think anyone knows how much money is spent on that stuff, just to appease the envirowackos.

When Robert McNamara was secretary of defense, he indirectly forced those of us working in USAF hospitals to use up EWP supplies, including medicine, in order to properly provide medical care to GIs and their dependents. (EWP stood for Emergency War Preparedness) So McNamara was able to pretend to hold down military spending, while he and JFK were ready to go to war with the USSR over Berlin, Cuba, and, unfortunately, Viet nam.

I remember during the Carter glory years the AF was taking F-15´s out of the factory, removing the engines and flying them back (on a C-141) to get another airplane. They hoped they would get money for engines later.
Since Dear Leader has decided that we are going to be a second rate country, close the overseas bases and bring the troops home.
What a disaster this man(?) is.

“He was not radical at all,” Taramov told WESH-TV. He added that the FBI had been tracking Todashev since the Boston bombings. At some point, Todashev moved to Florida. He was arrested for aggravated battery this month, according to police records, after getting into a fight with a man in a parking lot. When the FBI agent and others arrived at his apartment early Wednesday, the law enforcement officials said Todashev initially was cooperative. They said he appeared on the verge of signing a confession to the killings of three people in Waltham in September 2011.

Jerusalem - Israel´s air force chief says his troops need to be ready to act quickly in case of an attack from Syria. The remarks by Maj. Gen. Amir Eshel Wednesday echo statements by Israel´s military chief of staff a day earlier. Eshel warned escalation could lead to a "surprise war." Dubai - Iranian authorities executed two men on Sunday convicted of working for Israeli and U.S. spy agencies, Iran’s Fars news agency reported. Mohammad Heidari, accused of passing security-related in formation and secrets to Israeli Mossad agents in exchange for money, and Kourosh Ahmadi, accused of gathering information for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency, were hanged at dawn, it said. The sentence for their execution was handed down by Tehran’s Revolutionary Court and confirmed by the country’s Supreme Court. The report did not say when the pair were arrested nor when their trial took place.

One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
