Jesse Jackson was on America’s Newsroom today to discuss gun control. Jackson said assault weapons are a threat to national security. Jackson also said gun manufacturers should be held responsible for shootings.“These semi-automatic weapons, these assault weapon, can only kill people and in fact are threats to national security. The young man who did the killing in Aurora, Colorado with the arsenal he had. He was right near the airport, right near the runways near the airport in Denver. He could shoot down airplanes. so this is a matter of homeland security… We need to make manufacturers more accountable for their product.“ Headline split, content added by staff
|
Comments: Of course Jesse Jackson would say it´s the fault of gun manufacturers - far be it from him to blame his constituents who actually use these weapons - the vast majority of them obtained illegally - to commit crimes.

Obviously, the Reverend has never heard of Personal Responsibility has he?

Pssst. Jesse - your pals at the FBI note somewhere in the ´statistics´ area...
That *your* peeps - perhaps 15% of the general population...
Are popping off somewhere in the 80% area of foreign objects into (primarily) the bodies of other brothers...
So Jesse, what´s up with that? Your ´influence´ these days running more towards corporate extortion than giving that ol´ ´Reverendly´ type advice to the faithful? Can´t hold the bros responsible for their own behavior?
Go figure.

Speaking of REAL homeland security.... round up all those gangs roaming the streets and deport them to some deserted island and let them have their own country instead of ruining ours. But no... therevjj just wants a way to sue someone instead of blaming the depraved perps.

Some logic. Using that approach, let´s jail all members of Congress and all presidents for the laws we have, because without those laws, there would be no law breaking.

A gun thief breaks the law and steals a gun. A gun thief murders school children. A gun thief says "the gun manufacturor MADE me do it".
So the person pulling the trigger has NO responsibility?
How did the gun manufacturer pull the trigger, Jesse?
How?

This guy is an idiot. That is like saying the automobile makers are responsible for individuals have automobile accidents. On the other hand, maybe Jesse thinks it is time to apply extortion to the gun manufacturers for some free money like he has done in the past. It is time for the clown to get a real job.

This reminds me of a Section 8 housing complex in Minneapolis that was a breeding ground for criminals. The media, ´´community leaders´´, politicians, etc all blamed the building for the crime instead of the people living there. Solution: they tore down the building - problem solved!

#17, Jesse has had paid personal armed body guards since the late 60´s which were supplemented by volunteers and local on/off duty police in each city he visited...he is skittish w/o armed guard and also liked the image of importance it conveyed, with his being one of the most patrolled Southside blocks over the years...JLJ was in his glory when Reagan gave him Secret Service protection early in his primary in 1984...

Despite having said here many times that arguing logically with hoplophobes [and of course race-baiters] is a Fool´s Errand, and I still hold that position, I´ll offer some stats to make sure a few facts are on the table. Exact numbers may vary, but are close, as it´s all from memory.
One black male in three will have a felony conviction during his life.
An identifiable group, young black males, comprising about 1.5% of the population of the country, is responsible for about 52% of all murders. 52% of all murders. Think about it -- if we found that, for purposes of this discussion, 1.5% of our population was immigrants from, oh, Madagascar, but committed 52% of all murders, would we have acted regarding that group? Hardly needs to be asked, does it?
Some 70% of all the counties in America had no murders last year. Didn´t know that one, didja? Surprised you, too, didn´t it?
We know the facts. We know the sources of the violence [more than just the numbers I mention, but the sick sub-culture behind them]. We know effective steps to take. We know there are far too many innocent victims. We know that honest taxpayers are being grotesquely put-upon as victims and with the huge costs of dealing with and not dealing with crime.
We had better start doing the right things in response, and soon.

#37: Thanks for the questions.
a. "Unintelligible" seems misused. b. I flatly stated in #35 that the numbers were from memory; further, academic citations are absent from essentially all posts on this site; last, running down sources is easier today than ever before if important to a reader. c. #35 neither suggested nor proposed anything "be done with" 35 million black Americans, nor that anything should be. From #35: "An identifiable group... comprising about 1.5% of the population of the country, is responsible...." That´s a pretty clear statement that the perps are the problem, IMHO. #35 also pointedly mentions the contributory "sick sub-culture." That´s also clear reference to perps, particularly as those familiar with my posts know I don´t traffic in code words. #35 can and does make its points directly, as usual.
Thanks for the chance to re-examine #35, and to stand by it.

President Obama’s re-election and Democratic gains in the US Senate end any possibility of repealing the Obama health law. It will roll out as written, imposing major changes soon on you and your family. If you are uninsured because you can’t afford it, help may be on the way. But if you are one of the 250 million Americans with coverage, there are big problems ahead. If you get your health insurance through a job, you might lose it as of Jan. 1, 2014. That’s when the new “employer mandate” kicks in, requiring employers with 50 or more full-time workers to provide the government-designed health plan or pay a fine. The government plan is so expensive, it adds $1.79 per hour to the cost of a full-time employee. That’s incidental if you're hiring neurosurgeons but a hefty increase for hiring busboys and sales clerks. Source name spelled out, content added by staff

In a new television ad, the Obama campaign mocks Mitt Romney’s promise to end the federal subsidy to PBS: “Bernie Madoff. Ken Lay. Dennis Kozlowski. Criminals. Gluttons of greed,” the Obama campaign's dramatic voice over says. “And the evil genius who towered over them?” The video shows a silhouette of the large feathered creature from Sesame Street: “Big Bird,” Romney says. The announcer moves in for the kill: "Mitt Romney knows it’s not Wall Street you have to worry about, it’s Sesame Street. Mitt Romney. Taking on our enemies, no matter where they nest.

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
