Advice on the Second Amendment

Pravda, Guns & America (AT, Jan. 11) quoted a Russian who advises: Americans: Never Give Up Your Guns, citing the bloody and tragic result of the Communists´ confiscation of arms after they came to power in 1917. The quotation has been echoing around the Internet, so here are more ringing defenses of the importance of the right to bear arms to the cause of liberty. Another Russian, the great writer Alexander Solzhenitsyn, wrote about the Soviet Union in The Gulag Archipelago (p.13, note 5): And how we burned in the camps later,

Comments:
Some good examples of governments turning on their own people.

Others would be Spain (1936), Italy (c 1925), Cambodia (c 975), Zimbabwe (c 2000), etc.

Anybody who thinks it could never happen here has not read much history.

And anybody who says we cannot resist the American military must not have been paying attention during the conflicts in Viet Nam and Mogadishu, and Afghanistan. In all those cases, the resistance amounted to little more than light infantry.

In two out of the three mentioned, the local resistance managed to hold out quite well...

You know how low you´ve sunk when Pravda makes more sense than American media outlets.

Yes, it can happen here, especially with the current crop of public-school-educated ignoramuses who were not taught world history properly, if at all:

...tyranny thrives best where government need not fear the wrath of an armed people...However improbable these contingencies may seem today, facing them unprepared is a mistake a free people get to make only once.

...and then they are slaves for God knows how long. Ignoring how tyranny happens isn´t a mistake we can afford. We´re watching it right now.

And the GOP is where, again?

#3 - that is exactly what I keep telling folks who comment that patriots could not stand up to the US military. I still remember very well how to take a tank down range and do lots of damage and the M240 and M2 are some of my favorite toys. And, oh by the way, lots of those active and NG military guys are going to honor their oath and not go along with any shenanigans by this or any other administration. They´ve already told me so....

Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it...including liberals who ought to realize that the over 70 years of the Soviet Union utopia led to murder, moral decay, and the demise of millions of people...these people were the same people that the Marxist yells "workers of the world unite", and then promptly eliminated them! Pravda knows the truth, the average American liberal leftist hopes that nobody notices!

#5 and #3. There are millions of us who have not served who would rather die fighting than marching into ovens.

Just how many judicial decisions by the federal courts has Obama already ignored?? There must be at least 4-5 case decisions that have gotten to the media during his first term. Also, just how many federal regulations have been issued that completely ignore the will of congress as exists in current statutory law?? Too many to even begin to list. Just what consequences has he incurred???? Nothing, NADA, Zero. There have been no congressional inquiries or even comments by members of congress or the senate. This man is an imperialist. This is exactly why we have and need the 2nd amendment.

Yesterday we watched Senator Claire McCaskill’s fantastical view of the world. Today, I offer you the perpetually unhinged Alan Grayson, who gives us his take on Paul Ryan’s budget: “In one case after another, you look at his principles, you look at his vision, and they’re a nightmare for America. He wants Americans to work until they die, he wants poor people who get sick not be able to see a doctor, not to get the care they need, not to get better, he wants them to die,

Like the proverbial monkey typing for infinity and getting Shakespeare, Mayor Bloomberg’s obsession with reforming New Yorkers’ health has finally produced a brilliant ad campaign. Posters are popping up in subway stations and bus stops giving statistics about teen pregnancy that show cute little kids saying things like, “Honestly, Mom … chances are he won’t stay with you. What happens to me?” and “I’m twice as likely not to graduate high school because you had me as a teen.”

A meticulous new analysis examines the benefits of government-administered socialism among a representative cross section of individuals. It is an insightful departure from the usual studies of socialism that analyze only collective benefits to society using statistics about such things as income quartiles and poverty levels. The new study is 27 pages and can be accessed as a PDF file via this link. As its author, I´ll summarize the results here. Julia, the president´s comic book heroine, is used as the baseline.

We are being played; it´s time we learned the game. Conservatives have their Constitution. Progressives have their Narrative. The current battle for America is between these two concepts, and each side uses different rules to fight it. One set of rules is consistent with an unchanging objective: limited government and individual freedoms. The other side´s rules are as fickle as their goals, which are never fully disclosed beyond the equivocal references to fairness and hyphenated forms of justice.

Global Governance Begins on December 14

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU), an imprint of the UN, is holding its World Conference on International Telecommunications (WCIT) from December 3-14, 2012. The stated purpose of the WCIT is to update the UN´s "global treaty" on telecommunications to deal more directly and comprehensively with the internet. Knowing who controls the UN, it is not hard to see that a primary aim of the updated "treaty" will be to give credence to the regulation and monitoring of online activity in ways that are desirable to the (authoritarian) majority of member states.

The Governing Class and the Decline of America

The United States will not reverse its descent into the abyss of financial and societal bankruptcy until the current political and governing establishment is replaced. That will not happen until the American people, who have been deliberately ill-educated and deceived, experience first-hand the early stages of the turmoil and suffering extant in Europe and elsewhere. While professing to care for the interests of the average person, the underlying motivation for the vast majority of the governing class or Establishment is first and foremost self-aggrandizement and the acquisition of wealth.

Officials on Benghazi:

Obama administration officials who were in key positions on Sept. 11, 2012, acknowledge that a range of mistakes were made the night of the attacks on the U.S. missions in Benghazi, and in messaging to Congress and the public in the aftermath. The officials spoke to CBS News in a series of interviews and communications under the condition of anonymity so that they could be more frank in their assessments. They do not all agree on the list of mistakes and it's important to note that they universally claim that any errors or missteps did not cost lives and reflect "incompetence rather than malice or cover up.

Watching President Obama trying to dodge raindrops and responsibility yesterday reminded me of the moment when Dorothy pulls back the curtain and discovers that the Wizard of Oz is “just a man.” Stripped of his spell of mystery and power, the wizard is worse than mortal. He’s a fake. So it was with Obama in the Rose Garden. His performance was tired and trite, ordinary to the point of dull. His veneer of passion was so transparent that you could see him trying to summon his old-time magic by pushing the buttons

STANDING BEFORE reporters Thursday, President Obama declined an invitation to compare the recent scandals weighing down his administration with those that forced President Nixon to resign in 1974. So allow us to do the work for him: There is no comparison. Nixon, in a series of crimes that collectively came to be known as Watergate, directed from the White House and Justice Department a concerted campaign against those he perceived as political enemies, in the process subverting the FBI, the IRS, other government agencies and the electoral process to his nefarious purposes. Mr. Obama has done nothing of the kind.

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

The State Department, under Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton, created an arrangement for her longtime aide and confidante Huma Abedin to work for private clients as a consultant while serving as a top adviser in the department. Ms. Abedin did not disclose the arrangement — or how much income she earned — on her financial report. It requires officials to make public any significant sources of income. An adviser to Mrs. Clinton, Philippe Reines, said that Ms. Abedin was not obligated to do so. The disclosure of the agreement that Ms. Abedin made with the State Department comes as her husband,

The Internal Revenue Service´s watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president´s re-election campaign. The disclosure to the Treasury general counsel and the deputy secretary was a cursory one, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. He said he didn´t reveal conclusions of the probe, which was in its early stages, and his disclosure came as part

The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. Issa didn´t issue a subpoena to former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Michael Mullen, who co-authored the Benghazi report with Pickering.
