The second inauguration of our sitting president will take place this coming weekend as this is being written. It is a time of great happiness for most of my neighbors and friends inside the beltway, indeed for most people in the country. But I find myself in despair for our beloved country. It is quite likely that a large minority of the nation’s citizens agree with my pessimistic mood. The reasons for that despair are not difficult to discern. Our beloved country is in terrible condition. The awful evidence is easily seen everywhere, for those willing to look.
Holy Snarks---Blame Bush shows up lumping him with Barack Obamacare and the Stimulus Monster-- STOP IT>
The hole we are in can squarely be blamed on a man who will not develop our resources, spends like there´s no tomorrow (and there might not be)is an arrogant little narcissist, and has no regard for citizens he wants to treat as second class "subjects".
We can also blame the media, the cheating in the last election, and a culture that has scoffed at the sanctity of life.
The media will never allow Obama to be blamed for anything. Period. And maybe it´s too early in the morning, but I don´t see anything in this "mea culpa" except an article that could have (and probably was) been written by the Onion. Over the top sarcasm written by someone who thinks us flyover people would swallow it hook, line and sinker.
A blind man with a cane can feel the country going down the tubes but I guess it´s who to blame for it. Obama and his cronies want to blame it on a Bush hangover and an obstructionist congress but you can´t escape the buck supposedly stopping at the WH. This country´s economy is surviving on simple necessities people need to live.
Sure getting your nails done isn´t a necessity but what else do you do with a government handout. We need home building and an atmosphere to bring manufacturing back but these things enhance people to be self sufficient and there´s no room for that under Obama.
The left has brainwashed itself into hating the word profit so they don´t feel guilty about spending all their free time figuring out how to steal it. Obamacare was partially based on the left´s hatred of insurance companies making a profit.Last week some leftist said doctors shouldn´t profit off treating sick people.
Proving once again that "you can´t fix stupid" this stupid writer is acting like we didn´t know this would happen from the very start. I´m not the brightest bulb on the tree but I knew all this would happen if this dope was elected in 2008. I would come to this very website and vent to hundreds of like minded people that this would be a disaster. I would read similar comments from others that it would be a disaster. And guess what? It is, and years later another lib faces reality and says "It´s a disaster". It´s too late, you idiot! It´s done and it´s because of like minded, low information, dimwits like you that caused it. J.D, Ph.D? Please, you´re a dimwit.
Sea of debt, red ink and a race war. He nails it. What he cannot bring himself to say is that this was the plan all along. It is coming true. Limbaugh was right. I hope and wish devoutly that he fails!
#3 you can´t just blame our entire mess on Obama. You should also include Carter and Clinton for the horrible housing bubble that got it started. Then adding the incompetence of Obama, you got this entire nightmare.
Many thanks to Ms. Lucianne and Staff for making this article a Must Read. If only low information voters would read this excellent description of America´s "state of affairs".
My question to Mr.Trebach: "Did you get a Ph.D. with blinders on? If you voted for Obama the first time and didn´t "see" what kind of person he is, your education manipulated you and I would ask for a refund."
Also I want to add my dittos to #9 - which is the crux of it all.
#8, you can´t blame Obama along with Carter and Clinton. The latter two Presidents actually thought they were doing what is right for the country. The latter two, wrong-headed though they were, at least loved the country.
By contrast, Obama has always hated this country and its Constitution, and ran on "fundamentally remaking" it into a shadow of its former self, deliberately doing everything he could to destroy its prosperity, its standing in the world and the freedom of its people.
His fuel is hate. His eyes reveal it. Ditto Michelle. Carter and Clinton are not even in the same category because of their motivations. Incompetence in the former POTUS´ and subversion in our present POTUS.
No. Obama wants to subjugate every person and destroy the Constitution, a nuisance to him. He is well on his way to doing both. That may be why States´ rights are suddenly making a reappearance, and rightly so.
Face it....in the press,Obama and the democrats get praise and accolades for anything and everything that goes right. Ib Bush mixed the cake batter, baked it and decorated it, Obama would get the praise for putting it on the table.
If anything goes wrong, and there is even one republican fingerprint on it, the press and media will report it as a bipartisan failure, where each side shares, with the republicans getting most of it.
If there is a complete failure of democrat or Obama policies, there will be a complete news blackout...Fast and Furious, Benghazi, Community Re-investment Act, etc etc. Likewise, any positive results from republican policies are also subject to a news blackout.
These are the facts..... HOW do we get around the press, media and Hollywood??????????
I read as far as he voted for Obama in 2008. No need to read any further. Anyone complaining about Obama and his policies now after voting for him the first time should just shut up other than apologize to their follow citizens.
Sorry, you´ve already established yourself as an idiot incapable of logical thought so what you write now should be ignored.
How come all that you complain about now, I already knew and was warning people like you about the consequences of electing this Marxists who had no respect for the Constitution? Huh? Do us all a favor and go find someone you can consult with and lead you thru life since you obviously cannot be trusted with a vote.
As for blame to go around lets give honourable mention to the GOP leaders who let obama have his way at every turn being so fearful of his demagoguery and getting blamed because you are too tongue tied to articulate what is happening. Why not show courage and leadership and obstruct obama at every turn and watch Obama take the credit for the good things that happen. Wouldn´t that be better than what is happening. Put the country above your own political welfare and contrast yourself with Obama for a change.

I can´t quite determine if this article is a confession following enlightenment, or an insurance policy taken out in anticipation of arson. But the article can be summed up as ´Yes, I knew he hadn´t done squat, but I voted for him anyway just because!´
Mr. Trebach suddenly despairs at the condition of our country. No doubt he used his position at American University to influence the votes of countless students in 2008 to vote for Obama. Most of those kids don´t have jobs now.
He talks about O´s political skills and political savvy . How about the corrupt media that pushed him along and continues to do so? The handwriting was on the wall in 2008 yet he found a way to look past all of that so he could vote for the first black president.
He and everyone else who pulled the lever for Obama are responsible for this unmitigated disaster. He disgusts me!
I, too, am sick of these fools who establish their bonafides as Dems an Obama-voters before expressing unhappiness with the dear leader, as if to shield themselves from the charges of racism that up to now have been the boilerplate response to practically all political opposition. I can only hope that one of the author´s lifelong kindred spirits will find a dog whistle in his description of Obama as the "sitting president." C´mon, Chrissy et al, you´re not going to let that pass, are you?
I have no patience for Mea Culpa´s from those who overlooked the obvious in 2008 - Obama was not just incompetent but held ideologic views dangerous for America and her friends. Thanks for nothing, Trebach.
This over educated mental midget is just trying to shift blame. It´s not obama´s fault that this Nation is being destroyed. We all knew (those of us willing to see what was in front of our eyes) that obama´s INTENT has ALWAYS been to destoy this Nation. He TOLD US himself multiple tiems: "He wanted to "transform" Ameica"; The Constitution is a flawed document; and on and on...
So the blame is to placed squarely on the shoulders of the IDIOTS who voted for him. Yes, it is DIRECTLY your fault. YOU have principal responsibility in our destruction !
Granted, there may be “Despair Inside the Beltway,” but there continues to be delight, contentment, exhilaration and glee inside newsrooms and editorial boardrooms in 50 of the 57 states our geographically-confounded prexy has been known to reference.
Bottom Line: Nowadays, to give credence to what you see and hear by way of America’s so-called mainstream media is to naively do so at your peril. Don’t!
How did this guy get through high school? Dear Dr. Trebach: politicians do not provide goods or services. They are in the business of making deals, based upon their word. If you cannot give your word and keep it, you are not a good politician. Our two maximum leaders, Reid and Obama, give their word and usually break it within a day or two. Our educated voters have such a debased notion of a promise that they will vote for persons who do not keep promises. Besides, Obama promised to fundamentally change this country. What he has in mind is a Socialist Worker´s Paradise, like North Korea or Cuba. To get there he needs to destroy the faith and credit in America´s economy. Then he can have his revolution, and turn us all into peons.
No wonder we are in trouble. With fools like this as tenured professors, we are really in deep ****.
despair is putting it mildly...i plan to watch NONE of this mess......i dont want to see obama or mooch...period......what he has done to this country is AWFUL.....yet LIV stuck us with this nightmare again....
In the fall of 2008, the economic engine that drives our nation was sputtering. We needed a competent mechanic to tune it up. Instead, leftists climbed into the driver’s seat and steered us to suave vacuum cleaner salesman who peddles windmills on the side. Four years later the engine is sputtering even worse and the leftists´ best advice now is to push the car to the edge of a steep cliff, jump in, and then smile and wave to our friends as it goes over the edge.
Millions of people like Mr. Trebach are to blame for this mess, but any chance of saving this country will also need people like him who are willing to admit they made a mistake, to see what is really happening, and to finally start to de-program themselves from the leftist bubble they live in. It is not easy to do that, by the way, and he should be applauded for waking up. The sad fact is that as a former leftist he may have more success waking other people up than any Tea Party, consistent conservative-type.
No despair in DC because they are ´taken care of´ While the rest of the country lives in fear of losing their jobs, home and mostly freedoms from the Constitution that have been taken for granted. Our vote no longer has the integrity we used to believe in either. Only inside the beltway can the rose colored glasses still work to keep the fear of the results of the collapse of the Constitution at bay.
Zippy´s not that smart. In fact, he´s as dumb as a rock. He has been hand-picked to be where he is by greater powers…and it seems to be working. This idiot writer is just now figuring out what most of us suspected from 2008 and knew for certain by 2012? And he still thinks Zippy is brilliant! And, as was said earlier, given the choice he would vote for him again! You just can´t fix stupid!
The blame for the state of this country falls squarely on the backs of the American people who a) have no idea what is going on in the world or even in the US, b) do not vote, c) demand redistribution of income as their right, d) let the media manipulate them, e) let the liberals destroy our culture and f) do not demand that our elected representatives do what they were elected to do. Until that changes there is no hope for us.
Obama is not the true problem, scoundrels of his ilk have always been around and have been discarded. The real problem is the electorate that put him in his position. After over 200 years we have finally lost our greatness and our inability to identify and discard the many charlatans working diligently towards our ultimate destruction. Furthermore, there appears to be no turning back for these people.
My opinion is that the intelligent people who voted for Obama realized the vacuity of the man, the limits of his knowledge and skills, but felt good about voting for a black, didn´t want to vote for a Republican or to stay home, and didn´t discern his evil intent. They just closed their eyes and jumped.
Now, they know, but are having a hard time believing it.
Obama is miraculous! He has submerged this Country in the longest Nightmare- EVER!
In slightly over four years we will awake and view the carnage left in the wake of incompetent and inept leadership... With what will be a World-class hangover; feeling like we also were run over by the Megalo-Bus driven by madmen. THe best thing that could happen to this Country is ONE PERSON...ONE VOTE. Each voter should have their fingers dipped into indelible ink on their fist and only vote.
I had hope prior to the election. I was not fully fully embracing Rmney, but I thought he was a much better choice that BHO. At least Romney proved himself to be a leader and a decent technocrat, and would have placed the economy and the federal budget on a path to heal. BHO and his minions divided and sliced up the electorate to put together a majority to slip into reelection, at which I fell into a state of political despondency.
How could a wealthy, reasonably well educated electorate select BHO for all the reasons stated in this article? Now, the incredible intellect of folks like Colin Powell, are explaining away the future failure of this president and blaming his FUTURE failure on racism. The libs know he is going to fail and make a mess of things. So they have to blame Republicans and our refusal to go along with Obamanism (excessive spending, debt, no growth, burning cash on green projects, intensifying regulation, a paralyzed banking system, municipal and state bankruptcies, severely weakened national defense, and a run up of dependency and welfare) on racism.
Nothing is going to save the country from plunging into the financial abyss. But the author´s prediction that somehow the GOP, in the majority of only the House, will be blamed for the entire fiasco and will not regain the Presidency in ´16 is what makes me the sickest.
What sueblue said. One gets the dubious "honor" of watching the country´s destroyer celebrated, patting himself on the back, displaying yet again complete ignorance of protocol and simple good manners. He will sling mud at people from his bully pulpit whence they can´t defend themselves. He will recite half-truths, untruths and make-believe as if we are supposed to take him seriously. Then his shills will call for us all to "come together," as if only stubbornness and pride kept us from joining the circus.
One can only watch these charades so many times before throwing up.
I blame Arnold Trebach and all others who knew in 2008 that Obama was nothing more than the beneficiary of affirmative action but voted for him anyway. It WAS common knowledge that Obama achieved nothing of note while in law school, in Sprinfield or in D.C. And yet, Trebach and others voted for him.
So the blame goes to obama voters but it is the rest of us who will be paying to fix their mess.
We must vote for a bunch of Republican senators - and keep the majority of the House. Drag everyone you know that is not a political genius to the polls. Let them know what the creep in the WH has done and will do.
Why is it that Bush is blamed when unemployment was 4% under his admin and the stock market near 14,000? He suffered a much worse crisis than Obama did when the stock market lost nearly half of its value after 9/11. But it came back. The tax cuts stimulated the economy, exactly as predicted. I have no doubt that if Bush were still president we would not still be in a down economy. Bush, by the way, tried to get a handle on entitlements but was stopped by Congress.
Righto. But his success is due not so much to his materful politicking but his skin color and a MSM propping him up with Pravda-like devotion. And quite frankly, I now plenty of lefties who are not thrilled by The One - how he got elected for a second term is beyond me and I don´t quite follow the voter fraud scenario... Low information/47% on the dole, that I can fathom...
If my memory is correct, one of the primary reasons for the Civil Was state´s rights, not in freeing the slaves. Yes, that was one reason, but not the primary reason. And economics was another primary reason in that the federal government would not allow the cotton producing states enter into trade agreements with foreign countries. Their cotton had to be sold to New England textile mills and lower prices that they could get from England and France. It was a very complex set of reasons.
In today´s political climate we see a lot of the same situations. The economy is in shambles, we are not allowed to develop our own resources, and it seems that the slavery problem hasn´t been settled yet. Am I ready for another civil war? Yes I am.
NOTE: I was a Wal-Mart the other day and noticed that the ammo shelves were nearly all bare. Better stock when and where you can find it.
I was pessimistic before but since this morning I am very concerned. I was chatting with a retired military officer at the pool. As we did our loosening-up walking, he told me he was real excited because he had had a shipping container delivered to a piece of land he had bought in the country and the heavy equipment was coming today to dig the hole for the container.
Yes--he´s going to use a container as a bug-out safe-house! At first he was describing it as a storm shelter and then slowly revealed what it´s REALLY for. I´m not going to explain all the details but he has it well figured out down to the smallest detail.
Not a bad idea, quite sensible the way he described it. So why was I suddenly very deeply concerned? He´s black.
What have his friends and relatives been saying to cause him to spend this kind of money?
All I know is that nothing better happen to zippy while in office. George Washington and Abraham Lincoln will have nothing on Obama in the numbers of named streets, schools, statues, monuments and holidays. Barry, Barry... please stay safe. No meet and greets and no Town Halls.
In my opinion. since day 1 of Obama´s first term, the U.S. has been on a downward spiral straight to ( you know where ). If the Republicans in the House don´t do everything they can to stop his deeds, The U>S> may not last in its current form for his second term.
Well President Obama just held another political news conference and essentially fraudulently blamed congressional Republicans for all the big spending authorizations that have happened over the years, saying that by not giving him authority to raise up the debt ceiling the Republicans now do not want to pay America´s bills that they authorized in the first place. While doing that, he throw out all sorts of big government spending numbers to the extent that probably only one out of a hundred Americans could actually understand what he was talking about. No doubt he will continue doing the same for the next four years.
"As democracy is perfected, the office of president represents, more and more closely, the inner soul of the people. On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart´s desire at last and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron." H.L. Mencken. 1880 - 1956
Hannity and Limbaugh keep saying that the Republicans don´t do anything to try and stop Obama. Do they understand that the Republicans just lost 8 seats in the House and that Democrats control the Senate by 10 seats ?? Do they understand how often the House has passed bills, including budgets which cut spending and they died in the Senate when Reid refused to allow the House bills to be considered ? The effort by Hannity and Limbaugh and Levin to always undercut the Republicans only helps Obama. In Feb 2008 , when we all knew who Obama was and what he would do , Limbaugh gave an interview to Howard Kurtz at The Washington Post where he said he wanted Obama to win if McCain became the Republican nominee. " Limbaugh on McCain: It´s Better to Be Right All The Time ". "If I believe the country will suffer with either Hillary, Obama or McCain, I would just as soon the Democrats take the hit . . . rather than a Republican causing the debacle," he said. "And I would prefer not to have conservative Republicans in the Congress paralyzed by having to support, out of party loyalty, a Republican president who is not conservative." Thanks Rush, hope you´re happy now. Neither McCain or Romney were the evil monsters you constantly portrayed them to be. They could never be compared to Obama . And the Democrats have increased their numbers and power , they have not taken a hit.
He´s not even black. Blacks call him ohfay. Duke Ellington composed BLACK BROWN & BEIGE all about how blacks treat and mis-treat each other based on their skin tone. Obamao ain´t no black. He´s a beige, was brought up and chooled white, has not suffered anything close to those who are truly black.
It seems that there is much suffering going on inside the beltway...NOT.
Things inside the beltway are great. Life is good inside the beltway. The taxpayer dollars are flowing in, and the Federal Reserve is printing more money. The government connected folks are feeding from this trough of taxpayer money and there´s celebrating continuing(There´s a big Mardis Gras celebration coming up in Washington DC, and I´m not joking about this event).
There is despair, for very few in Washington D.C., but mostly for those of USa in America´s heartland.
Obama´s doing great! Taking trips to Hawaii and spending taxpayer money as fast and as often as he can, by design. He and most of the other folks inside the beltway will be doing great, for the elites of an oligarchy always take their cut first of any nations´ resources. If anyone needs an example of what Obama is doing and will continue to do, check out Robert Mugabe and the African country of Zimbabwe. That´s the kind of transformation Obama wants for USA, but he´ll be OK just like Robert Mugabe, and the other connected ones of Obama´s group of thugs.
Of course, you´re right, #68, but I believe Levin and Hannity to be merely Limbaugh´s followers, not his accomplices. Rush Limbaugh takes positions that gain listenership. Controversial statements will do that. Having a McCain or a Romney as president wouldn´t have been as attractive for his purpose as an Obama presidency clearly is.
He better get his attitude straightened out if he wants to serve a second term. He acts like he is King of Scotland and can just make up his owns laws and is above the law. He best watch watch it or his ass will get impeached.
Sorry to inform some but Rush and Hannity are not the reason why Obama won and I don´t consider myself to be a mind numbed robot. Those two and others like them present ideas, many of them quite good but I nor most of the followers of this site would accept that we are controlled by Rush or Hannity.
It is extremely doubtful that, ´´most people in the country,´´ do not actually see right through the lies streaming from 0bama, the dem pols and their odeous media/hollyweird. Most Americans are alarmed at the emerging horriffic results of 0bama´s radical statist policies. At the same time, most Americans are busy working to pay their bills while trying find a little of the domestic tranquility and peace accustomed to before they were snatched away 9/11! That is an entire generation now!
The islamoterrorists continue to make it crystal clear that they are still at war throughout the planet against the principles which secure equal respect for Life, Liberty and Justice for ALL, yet the dem party has managed to marginalize that decades-long threat to freedom on the planet by attempting to divide Americans!!?!!!! The dem pols are now not only revising American history but have also become emboldened & radicalized enough to attack the U.S. Constitution itself?!! The dem party leadership seems to despise everything about America these days. And their media baffoonery is but spoon-fed to the public. Considering that individual freedom is being seriously challenged by its enemies around the planet, why in the world are dems so intent upon dividing this country, THE beacon for Liberty on the planet, with lies? Whose side is the dem party on anyway?
Sometimes shunning sends a message. So, this year, for the first time, we won´t be watching the inauguration.
Limbaugh, in particular, did great damage to both McCain and Romney, particularly to Romney. Limbaugh fans would do well to keep in mind that his first priority is his own value as an entertainer. The fate of the nation is well down his list.
76, please. You can´t be more wrong. You may listen to Rush but you certainly don´t comprehend what he says and has said since he started nationally, but back at the ranch... except in one way. If millions of good Americans agree with these awful forecasts then perhaps — just perhaps — there will be a groundswell of popular demand that drastic measures must be taken very soon to change the disastrous direction of the precious American nation. No there won´t be a groundswell. We´re Godless now. We didn´t Slouch Toward Gomorrah, we afterburnered way past it in four short years. And thanks for pulling your head out after it´s way too late. Really does a lot of good now Doc.
I too, don´t believe that Rush or Fox did us any good in trying to elect Romney, I think that they could have done more. No matter now, we are a socialist nation and Obama will be telling us what to do and Congress or no one else can do anything about it. It is over. There is no going back. We are going to be like Australia with gun control - like Cuba on government rule. We will have no freedom anymore
FTA: “Yet, he was elected president in 2008 and, as I said, I voted for him. Like many millions of citizens, I managed to overcome my disgust at his association with his bigoted, racist, anti-Semitic pastor, Jeremiah Wright.”
Just why did you want to ‘overcome’ your disgust, Mr. Trebach? So that you and your academic colleagues and friends could continue to strut around feeling enlightened – open-minded – above the fray - superior to the masses – safe?
Whimpering buyer’s remorse – insulting and reprehensible – and, too late.
Trebach´s piece adds all the more creedence to Dave Wiedemer´s prediction of the aftershock when the dollar and debt bubbles finally do pop, sometime between now and 2015. While the pubs have some responsibility for this happening, Obie and the dims have enormous responsibility. But, it is 2013 now, and we must put our boot on Obie´s neck....now.

Obama won the first election as a novelty and through fraud. Obama won his "re election" through massive voter fraud and the vicious lying by the lamestream media.
These pundits WANT for American Conservatives to be depressed. This reminds me of an old Asian proverb: "That the birds of worry and care fly around your head, this you cannot change. That they build nests in your hair, this you can prevent."
Barack Hussein Obama, aka Barry Soetoro, or Soebarkah, or whatever his name is, is a sad fact of life. Thankfully, Justice Roberts has agreed to hear a case by Orly Taitz about O´s fraudulent use of Social Security numbers, etc., and about rampant voter registration fraud in California. Take heart, America. If one state overturns o´s election, the other states may fall like dominos. That would leave the presidential election in the hands of our House of Representatives.
One peg at a time, one step at a time, the Obama doctrine to bring the US down from its high horse, continues. And with unfettered power in his second term, this destruction of America will accelerate.
So, Mr. Ph.D, as another poster said, many on this site saw this coming in 2008. After that election, we were in despair, but there was always 2012. Well, now we know, that the country has tipped, with stupid, and I say that with all sincerity stupid, low information voters, we now have Obama unchanged; Obama with the flexibility he promised Putin should he be relected.
So, Mr. Ph,D, our despair has turned to absolute horror as we watch our beloved country destroyed from within from this Marxist traitor with the title of president.
If you think that politics is going to solve anything, you should be in despair. I´m not. I and my family are going to survive if I can do anything to save us. "The country" is going to hell, but I can´t stop it. America is finished. The socialists won. I am concentrating on how to save myself and my family.
As Rush says, low-information voters put him in the White House. It will be left to this country´s patriots to save America from itself. In Obama, we have elected this country´s first soft dictator. He rules not governs.
No, cheer up, think of him as setting up the Tenth Amendment for a return. The federal level is completely dysfunctional, yes, we have a president holding a gun to the head of the nation if we don´t carry out all his mother´s ideas from 1970 approx. But the federal level isn´t actually everything. We just have to forge a path back to state leadership on these issues. Way too much authority is rolled up in one place in DC. Find the way back.
People of goodwill concerned about America need to start now to work to support strong Republican actions in Congress and especially the House to limit the damage that Barack Obama is about to do to our great country that this writer so vividly predicts. Further work must start now on the 2014 elections to take Republican control of the Senate and to keep control of the House.
This writer predicts Obama will create disaster for America. Reasonable people must start acting now to prevent that by supporting strong actions by Republicans in public, in Congress and in the media. Do not leave it up to someone else to do.
And Bush did not start the trillion dollar deficits. The Democrats who took over Congress in the 2006 election did it!
WASHINGTON -- An American who vanished nearly seven years ago in Iran was working for the CIA on an unapproved intelligence-gathering mission that, when it came to light inside the government, produced one of the most serious scandals in the recent history of the CIA - but all in secret, an Associated Press investigation found. The CIA paid Robert Levinson´s family $2.5 million to head off a revealing lawsuit. Three veteran analysts were forced out of the agency and seven others were disciplined. The U.S. publicly has described Levinson as a private citizen.
The powerful uncle of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has been executed as a "traitor for all ages," the official news agency reported. Jang Song Thaek faced a special military tribunal Thursday and was convicted of "anti-party, counter-revolutionary factional acts" in a bid to overthrow the the communist country´s leadership, KCNA reported Friday in Pyongyang. The state news agency did not say when or how Jang was killed. North Korean media reported Monday that Jang had been purged for crimes that included faction-building, corruption, drug use and womanizing. He was considered the country´s most powerful figure after his nephew. State TV aired
Not only could you "shoot your eye out, kid," you might also go to jail for owning that BB gun in certain states. New Jersey and other jurisdictions make little or no distinction between Daisy´s classic Red Ryder BB gun immortalized in the film "A Christmas Story," and real guns. They must be registered and are subject to the same laws as any firearms. “In all honesty, kids who are charged are looking at mandatory jail time,” said New Jersey attorney William Proetta, adding that under the state’s Graves Act, a conviction could lead to prison time. “The only defense is to
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced this morning that nearly 365,000 Americans had signed up for private health insurance under Obamacare. The vast majority came from 14 states running their own insurance exchanges, while 137,000 came by way of HealthCare.gov, the much-faulted federal Web site that handles enrollment for the remaining states. But amid the rush to enroll as many people as possible by the Dec. 23 deadline, there’s a huge caveat that isn’t getting much public attention: For coverage to take effect on Jan. 1, enrollees must pay their first month’s premium on time. (The deadline varies
If you like your selfie, you can keep your selfie. Period. Unless, of course, you’re Barack Obama, in which case, you better delete it from your smartphone pronto, unless you’d like to spend the next three or four months dining on hot tongue and cold shoulder. You didn’t need a fake interpreter from an old Woody Allen movie to translate Moochelle Obama’s body language. So there they were, Barry, British Prime Minister David Cameron and the hot-wife leader of Denmark, Helle Thorning-Schmidt, hamming it up like it was the 25th anniversary reunion of the Choom Gang. Some Krazy Kids, horsing around, waiting for
The British security firm that failed to protect the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, from a terrorist attack a year ago that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens was told by the State Department to avoid the media, the latest example of stonewalling over the attack. In newly uncovered emails received by the public watchdog group Judicial Watch, State was notified that the firm, Blue Mountain Group, was being pressed for answers about the surprise attack. Instead of giving the group the green light to answer the media, State ordered the firm to go into hiding. “Thank you so much for informing us about
Regularly scheduled elections are a hallmark of the American political system. In 18th-century Britain, the monarch could call new elections on a whim, and our Founders saw in that arrangement a seed of tyranny. The Constitution they designed requires elections for Congress every two years, and the next such elections are less than a year away. This is good news for conservatives as they continue to oppose the Obama administration. This president has been tremendously helped by having a Democratic-controlled Senate for his first five years in office. Harry Reid’s masterful, if not entirely virtuous, use of Senate rules has
New York — The anchor who might beat Bill O’Reilly gets her eyelash extensions applied one at a time, with tweezers and dabs of glue, about 90 minutes before showtime, right after a motorized gun sprays foundation over her face, neck, shoulders, collarbone and sternum, wiping out a galaxy of light freckles that spreads across her — Let me stop you right there. Photos of the day Uruguay legalizes marijuana, Kiev police pull back from protesters, aging U.S. prison population and more. Tuesday´s Photos of the day Would you write this way about a man? About O’Reilly himself? At least that’s what Megyn Kelly might ask at
In August 2013 I became very sick with what I thought was a cold. After a few days I lost vision in my left eye and I checked into the hospital. I soon found out that what I thought was a summer cold was actually Strep bacteria poisoning my blood stream. The bacteria blinded my left eye, ate a hole through my heart, caused five strokes on both sides of my brain and forced the removal of my prosthetic left knee. Dr. Lee was the surgeon assigned to perform open heart surgery. What was originally scheduled to last four hours ended
When I was a kid, I knew two different Santa Clauses. The first had a fat belly, rosy cheeks, a long white beard, and skin as pink as bubble gum. He was omnipresent, visiting my pre-school and the local mall, visible in all of my favorite Christmas specials. Then there was the Santa in my family’s household, in the form of ornaments, cards, and holiday figurines. A near-carbon copy of the first one—big belly, rosy cheeks, long white beard: check, check, check. But his skin was as dark as mine. Seeing two different Santas was bewildering. Eventually I asked my father what
Johannesburg - A man who provided sign language interpretation on stage for Nelson Mandela´s memorial service, attended by scores of heads of state, was a "fake," the national director of the Deaf Federation of South Africa said on Tuesday. Asked about the claim by The Associated Press, South Africa´s government said it was preparing a statement. Three sign language experts said the man was not signing in South African or American sign languages. South African sign language covers all of the country´s 11 official languages, according to the federation. It wasn´t immediately clear if the unidentified man was using a
The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday. Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday. The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed. Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to
House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) snapped at conservative groups that have come out in opposition to the budget deal reached Wednesday between Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) and Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.). "They´re using the American people for their own purposes. This is ridiculous," Boehner said at a press conference with other members of House Republican leadership on Wednesday. Over the past few days, a number of conservative groups have blasted the deal because it sets discretionary spending levels in the budget higher than previous levels under sequestration. In the past three days, the influential Heritage Action, Club for Growth, Americans
Views of the tea party are at all-time lows in a new poll, as primary challenges to establishment Republicans continue to heat up Washington. Just 30 percent of Americans view the tea party favorably in a new Gallup poll released Wednesday, the movement’s lowest point since Gallup began polling about it during its rise in 2010. Also in a first, a majority of Americans had an unfavorable view of the tea party, at 51 percent. Similar numbers of respondents described themselves as proponents or opponents of the tea party: Twenty-two percent identified themselves as tea party supporters, while 24 percent said they
