| A 61-year-old high school teacher has filed a disability discrimination lawsuit against a suburban Cincinnati school district. Her disability? She has a phobia of young children, The Cincinnati Enquirer reports. Maria C. Waltherr-Willard, a French and Spanish teacher who was employed by the Mariemont school district for 35 years, alleges that the discrimination occurred primarily in 2010, when the district reassigned her from high school to junior high. The suit also claims the district wanted her to resign because of her age. The alleged disability is pedophobia, an irrational fear or dislike of children.

Saw this on Fox yesterday. I had to stop what I was doing to hear it. I´m having a hard time believing the entire mess. I think there is something else behind it.

Having once taught junior high age ´children´ in an urban school system, I know how hard it is to teach them anything, let alone foreign languages. They can be horribly abusive. But the dread of facing these savages is not a disability. In most school systems, you can retire by age 61, although not with a full pension. This teacher should just do so, and not expect special compensation.

Middle school troublemakers are a lot like dogs: Once they sense the fear in someone, it´s over. Martha should explore her career options and look at teaching adults or private school employment. School Districts assign credentialed teachers where they´re needed, and not all assignments are perfect fits. I don´t think her district has done anything wrong here, and I hope this suit gets thrown out.

#6, Mariemont is a part of Cincinnati, but is a prosperous, desirable community made up largely of professionals, built to mimic an idyllic English village. I worked at the hospital there for years and it was a sharp, serene contrast to the private Catholic hospital in downtown Cinci in which I worked prior to going there. My husband and I, early in our marriage, tried to buy in Mariemont but just couldn´t afford it. This is no urban jungle.

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
