| Britain cannot possibly afford its welfare state for much longer. Most people do not realise that state handouts (£207?billion a year) mop up every penny we pay in income tax (£155?billion a year). Everything else, the NHS, schools, transport, police, defence, interest on the debt (nearly £50?billion a year, by the way) must be paid for by other taxes, including the vast sums raked in by so-called ‘National Insurance’, or by more borrowing. As we are more or less bankrupt as a country, such generosity is not noble but plain idiotic. Yet we will not stop doing it. Change is politically impossible.

It´s great to see Britain finally waking up to the excesses and fruitlessness of their absurd welfare state.The healthcare system is a complete abomination.Apparently they´re also pulling back on ridiculous green spending.
They also need to get out from the boot of the EU which is draining them further. It´s crazy to give up the sovereignty of your country to begin with.I´d like to see Germany get the hell out of the U also.
The EU is nothing but a workfare program for unemployed bureaucrats and busy bodies..
You had/have muslims migrating to Britain dragging some relatives kids with them to get a boost in their welfare checks.Up until several months ago they were still paying bonuses for having babies.Maybe they still are but they don´t have a population shortage like when the payments started.
The parallels between Britain and where this country is headed is startling but don´t expect Obama to learn for their disastrous policies,in fact he´s adopting them.
Obama wants a bizarre composite between Europe´s welfare state and Chinese central planning.The left thinks high taxes create a panacea for everybody but Britain has some of he highest tax rates in the world including a VAT and high gas taxes and they´re still broke and crime is rampant.

#1, time to stop criticizing Britain and start on the U.S. At least the Conservative/Lib-Dem Coalition government is attempting to cut down on immigration and "entitlement" spending that Labour blew up into a crippling situation. The Democrats are copying Labour almost to the T and we shall have a far worse situation here with the Obama administration turning the faucet to full on for immigrants and force-marching everyone into "affordable" health care. Oh, except politicians, of course.

The union representing U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services officials will officially oppose the proposed Senate immigration reform legislation on Monday, according to an advance statement obtained by the Washington Free Beacon. The National Citizenship and Immigration Services Council (USCIS Council) says the legislation fails to address its top concerns about the current system, including the pressure on USCIS officers to approve visa applications without thorough review and the bureaucratic barricades that prevent them from coordinating with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement officials. Sources say it is highly unusual for the USCIS Council to weigh in publicly on legislation.

WASHINGTON — I WENT to New York last week to cover the TV presentations for the new season, shows like “Scandal,” “Shark Tank” and a faltering “American Idol.” I may as well have stayed here. You know that the faltering American idol in the White House must be reeling in this scandalous spring. In the wee hours of the morning of January 27, 2013, a Wikipedia editor named “Qworty” made a series of 14 separate edits to the Wikipedia page for the late writer Barry Hannah, a well-regarded Southern writer with a taste for the Gothic and absurd. Qworty cut paragraphs that included quotes from Hannah’s work. He removed 20 links to interviews, obituaries and reminiscences concerning Hannah. He cut out a list of literary prizes Hannah had won. WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement
