Sen. Murphy: Congress ready
for ban on assault weapons

Sen. Chris Murphy on Sunday said there is growing momentum in Congress for a ban on so-called assault weapons, saying lawmakers’ attitudes toward gun control have changed significantly in the wake of last month’s shooting rampage in Newtown, Conn. “This issue is going to continue to move,” Mr. Murphy, Connecticut Democrat, said on CNN’s “State of the Union. “I do think that even in the Democratic caucus you see members like [Sens.] Joe Manchin and Mark Warner who previously probably never would have considered

Murphy as soon as you put a sign in front of your house and your office that says "this is a gun free zone" you can talk about bans, otherwise (and I mean this in the nicest possible way) SHUT UP!

Senator Murphy, you swore to defend "shall not be infringed."

If you did so fraudulently, resign.

There´s no such thing as an assault weapon. There are automatic guns, semi-automatic guns, and single-shot guns. There are no assault weapons. Period.

Did Republican Gingrey really say he´d consider universal background checks for all gun purchases? if so I hope his phone rings off the bleeping wall with calls from angry constituents who tell the Congressman his career is over if he votes for a gun grab. Who is this rino?

I can assault you with a steak knife. Heck, with a butter knife. Does that make all butter knives assault weapons?

I say, bring it to a vote and make that a ROLL CALL vote so those who vote for it, OWN THEIR VOTE!!!

Then we will see how many are "ready" for a ban on legal firearms and the votes of those who own them.

But, Sen. Murphy, we´re not.

Blowing smoke. Trying to gin up support by saying support already exists, like one dumb ox starting a stampede of dumb oxen. The majority can read their mail, and see what´s happening at gun shows.

This "assault weapon" BS is a politically semantic way for elected officials to have cover for voting against gun rights. The left is in love with creating "just the right wording" to manipulate the masses (i.e.: the affordable care act or card check). All they needed was the next good crisis and hysterical media publicity to get this rolling. The answer is an immediate legal challenge to any ban. Immediate because the ultimate judgment is from SCOTUS and if Obama succeeds in stacking that court with more "Wise Latina" extremists, then we know how the latest "interpretation" of the 2nd Amendment will go.

The real issue is the ammo. Walmart and some online retailers have put a hold on ammo orders once their in store stocks have sold out. Call corporate and ask why, they said they are waiting to see what Obama does with the 2nd amendment first,

Assault guns vs what... Hug Me guns? Progressives spend massive time & $$ dreaming up nominclature that will elicit the response they need to an issue.

GOPers need to speak the truth... 74% Americans want to keep the 2nd Amendment.
Both Australia & the UK had crime increase radically after disarming their peeps.

Quote statistics on crime in gun free zones like Chicago!

More people in the US are killed by hammers. That´s a fact. Will Murphy stand up and unite with demonrats and ban hammers? These brain dead demonrats have to be put to pasture when their terms are up.

#1, you are right, but as with every other law or regulation passed by these corrupticrats they will carefully exempt themselves and favored supporters. They will always enjoy armed protection. We do indeed have a royalty in this country, and most of them live in D.C.

Reply 16 - Posted by: Spidey, 1/14/2013 3:57:38 AM     (No. 9115056)

Republicans are going to be more open on more intrusive background checks simply because it beats out and out gun bans.

On the other hand, the more info you give to the gov´t,it´s easier for them to pinpoint who are where their political enemies are.

If you were a strategist of a government overthrow/takeover, having the addresses of your enemies would come in quite handy.

Keep in mind that banks operate at Obama´s mercy and he could simply pressure them to stop handling gun/ammo transactions.

These yo-yo´s just don´t get it, even when you draw them a kindergarten level stick figure picture describing the process to them...don´t tread on me, and don´t miscalculate the will of We the People, as was done with the health care debacle, that is an upcoming train wreck headed our way, after we said NO...listen!!!

In a crowded field, Chicago billionaire, bundler, sub-prime banker and union buster Penny Pritzker is clearly the worst nominee that President Barack Obama has chosen for his second term cabinet. Though the position for which she has been nominated, Secretary of Commerce, often goes to a presidential crony or political insider, Pritzker would exceed all her predecessors and peers with her shocking record of cronyism and failure. Pritzker ran Superior Bank into the ground by dealing in sub-prime mortgages. As Breitbart News noted recently, the bank´s depositors lost $6000, on average, and the taxpayers

Barack Obama, speaking to a crowd in Baltimore on Friday, said, “I know it can seem frustrating sometimes when it seems like Washington’s priorities aren’t the same as your priorities. I know it often seems like folks down there are more concerned with their jobs than with yours.” Earlier in the week, when speaking about the IRS scandal, Obama said, “I’ve reviewed the Treasury Department watchdog’s report, and the misconduct that it uncovered is inexcusable. It’s inexcusable, and Americans are right to be angry about it, and I am angry about it. I will not tolerate

As NewsBusters reported two weeks ago, CBS’s Bob Schieffer is fed up with the White House’s talking points concerning what happened at our consulate in Benghazi, Libya, last September. His impatience continued on Sunday´s Face the Nation when Obama senior advisor Dan Pfeiffer gave stock answers to questions about the three crises facing the President leading Schieffer to first accuse his guest of taking "exactly the approach that the Nixon administration took" and finally scolding him by asking, "Why are you here today? Why isn´t the White House Chief of Staff here to tell us what happened?"

I have always been skeptical of electric vehicles, mostly because of my perception that electric car makers are more interested in subsisting on government subsidies than in competing on a level playing field for my business. So I was intrigued when I got an email this morning from Jeff Evanson, Tesla Motors’ Vice-President of investor relations. Evanson, a long-time Power Line reader, pointed out that the company raised over $1 billion last week, and will use a portion of those proceeds to pay off its loan with the Department of Energy ahead of schedule. This will make Tesla

Here is a woman we will need to learn much more about in the coming weeks. Sarah Hall Ingram is a highly valued employee at the IRS. An exasperated Rep. What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.

It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. The Internal Revenue Service´s watchdog told top Treasury officials around June 2012 he was investigating allegations the tax agency had targeted conservative groups, for the first time indicating that Obama administration officials were aware of the explosive matter in the midst of the president´s re-election campaign. The disclosure to the Treasury general counsel and the deputy secretary was a cursory one, according to J. Russell George, the Treasury inspector general for tax administration. He said he didn´t reveal conclusions of the probe, which was in its early stages, and his disclosure came as part
