My guess is that this may be a hoax. Nothing out of the ordinary here. Possibly if the burglary is a "legitimate" burglary perhaps the perp did not read the gun permit database. No big deal and evidently the guns did the homeowner no good. Am I for gun confiscation? Of course not.

We need to call what the newspaper did a loophole. Public disclosure loophole, or something similar.

It´s time for the Anita Hill mantra with regard to the newspaper not protecting the identities in the database: It´s the seriousness of the charge, not the nature of the evidence.

The home owner should file a lawsuit now. No second should be wasted. Follow the demonrat play book. Never let a crisis go to waste.

First of all, it is tough to prove that the home was burglarized and the gun case was targeted solely because of the map, unless the burglar left behind a copy of the newspaper or the online equivalent.. Doesn´t mean it didn´t happen but just saying suing may not be that easy. That a newspaper would do this despite the risk that a law abiding citizen might get hurt by criminals looking for guns and that it´s OK for that gun owner to get hurt just because they think owning a gun is morally repugnant, shows both folly and disregard for other human beings. Do they think that gun owners do not have innocent children who might be hurt by home invasions that the irresponsible publishing of addresses encourage? Or do they think that children of gun owners deserve to be victimized as well?

The amount of incivility from the Left is astounding. It is as if they do not think conservatives or gun owners have a right to be alive. Their hatred, which they project onto their political opponents, are so vile and absolutely abysmal that it is no surprise if many liberals end up depressed and bitter people.

What more is there to say other than we told you so.

As far as the Journal News is concerned, it´s a feature, not a bug. One gets the impression that per their worldview, anyone who owns a gun deserves to have it stolen. And used on the owner.

As another poster noted, you don´t have to "prove" to sue--as long as you have enough to avoid being patently frivolous, you can file any suit you want to--and each party generally winds up paying their own costs. And most generally, suits are settled, and are a pain in the posterior for the party being sued. So in this case, I would say sue away...

You don´t have to sue to hurt them. Stop going to USA Today´s website. If you subscribe to a Gannett ´´paper´´, cancel your subscription. If you stay at a hotel/motel that gives you a ´´free´´ USA Today, tell them you would prefer a Wall Street Journal.

Why aren´t people who don´t have guns suing? The perps can steal guns from the map and go next door to rob the ones with no protection. Maybe they have bought guns. One woman said her parents are on the list but they are dead and someone else lives in the house now. Nice goin´ Jounal News.

This would be a much better story if all the homes not advertised as gun owner homes were the ones that got robbed.

As far as the suit goes; of course a Lawyer will want to sue the paper as that is where the money is. But I think ruining the personal life of the responsible reporter would do more to stop these types of reports in the future. A reporter might actually think twice before publishing something with their name on it.
