| While continuing to identify as a Republican, former Secretary of State Colin Powell on Sunday criticized the GOP for a series of racist attacks against President Barack Obama. "There´s also a dark vein of intolerance in some parts of the party," Powell said on NBC´s "Meet the Press." "What do I mean by that? What I mean by that is they still sort of look down on minorities." Powell, who endorsed Obama, pointed to a number of statements that were directed at Obama as evidence that there is still racism within the party.

Powell has no credibility and no honor. After what he did to Scooter Libby, he´s persona non grata with me.
But he´s a hero to the leftists for his dishonest commentary on race. What a pig. Someone needs to ask him how his first fancy house was financed in Virginia. You´ll find an Arab royalty if you dig just beneath the surface. He´s only ever been loyal to Colin Powell, the rest of America is "the little people".

There are few more intolerant than leftist ideologues. Why would a self-described Republican not know that? Didn´t realize how racist Colin Powell is and how bound by identity politics he must be.

Many Blacks are showing just how racist they are. Coming out of the closet, so to speak. I think Powell is bitter because he KNOWS he got where he is by affirmative action and not merit.

Powell has not creditbility. When asked back in 2008 what qualifications or credentials could he list for supporting obama, he basically had NOTHING. Ended up saying something about obama´s election being "historic". In other words, he was going to vote for obama because he was black - NOTHING ELSE ! (except for the unspoken fact that he and obama just happen to share the same SKIN color.)
That means that Powell is the RACIST - voting and supporting obama solely on the basis of their shared race. And like most / all racists he is PROJECTING his racist views on all republicans. Powell has gone from hero to ZERO in my book.

The man is dead wrong in his statements. There are many of us who absolutely abhor what has happened over the last four years and we could care less what color skin the people have that were responsible. In fact, many informed and intelligent blacks feel the same way.

The race war has been simmering beneath the surface for many years. It´s about to boil over.
Powell, and people like him, either want it or are such morons that they don´t realize they are causing it.
If you could look behind the scenes, you´d probably find out that the mainstream media is writing his lines for him, just as they do vritually every democrat in the country. The MSM runs the show, not the democrat party as so many seem to think.
Communism creeps in slowly until all of a sudden it´s too late to stop it. And for those of you who think the New York Times is about to go belly up, think again. They will simply order the democrats to bail them out... and they will. Some Pubbies will go along, too.

How about Obama´s intolerance to wealth? He makes it out to be evil. Yet, I know some very wealthy people who are very gracious. So Colin Powell, did you forget about that intolerance of Obama´s toward the wealthy? That was what his whole campaign achieved.

Why would Powell even stay in such a party, if it´s so racist ? FTA- Regarding Gov Sununu , after the first debate describing Obama as lazy , Powell said this was code for " shiftless ". No..it´s an accurate description of Obama aka Laz- E. Validated by his official daily schedule of two , sometimes three hr work days. The golf, parties and long vacations. His own admission to Damian Lewis, the star of Homeland, that he goes to the Oval Office and " pretends " to work , but, he watches tv , instead. The 2008 interview to 60 Minutes just after the election, where Michelle said she had to " make " Obama do chores. That he had to be " forced " to wash dishes and make " his " bed. The October 2012 Vanity Fair article that described all the hours he spends playing basketball each week that are never publicized. But, most importantly, Obama himself has often admitted that he´s lazy. In " Dreams From My Father " on pages 94 and 95 he recounted a fight with his mother over his admitted laziness. Obama told his mother he planned on being lazy his whole life. December 2011 interview with Barbara Walters : "You know, it´s interesting. There is a deep down - underneath all the work I do - I think there´s a laziness in me...it´s probably from, you know, growing up in Hawaii..." Obama is the Commander in Chief in wartime and during terrible economic times and his lack of any type of work ethic makes his laziness pathological.

In both Obama and Powell I see racism, it´s just that they were both chosen by white people as well as blacks and so now they bit the hands of those who nurtured them, by creating class warfare between minorities and white people, if the GOP seems to have less of a plantation mentality for minorities it´s because they still believe in "freedom" in spite of their desperate gyrations to avoid being called racists by the stealthy race baiting, class dividing, gun grabbing socialist set in the Democrat party and some blacks who believe themselves the distributors of others hard earned money and goods. They do however believe in distribution to the other elites who support their filthy oppressive form of racist government.

Racist attacks against Obama? Really? Prove that assertion.
The problem is that the left has defined any disagreement with black liberation idealology and socialism as racist. They merely make the charge that republicans are racists, and the press reports it as fact.

As McCain, Hagel, Powell, and even John ("I served in Vietnam") Kerry prove: an honorable military record is helpful, but not determinate, in qualifying for civilian office. The former requires bravery, discipline, and duty. The latter adds requirements for vision, perspective, and intuition.

I don´t agree with several of the comments of Powell. However, note that he identifies himself as a moderate and identifies himself as a Republican. Which means he identifies with enough of the values associated with Republicans to self-identify that way.
There used to be talk of a ´big tent´. Instead, when this Republican tells us how he is thinking, folks here call him all sorts of names. If someone who is already a Republican gets treated this way, why would an independent or Democrat want to leave their current position and identify with Republicans?
If the Republicans can´t open a ´big tent´ to include those who may not agree on 100% of points, then they may find the Democrats opening their tent to conservatives. There was a time when most of the south was Democratic...but conservative. In the last 30 years, many of those conservatives left the Democrats and came to the Republicans. Do we really want to run them back to the Democrats?

I´m pretty sure Powell got most of his promotions under republican presidents so if they were racists, why would they do that?

#1 and #2 are right on the money. Colin Powell has always struck me as an egomaniac who needs ´everyone´ (well, almost) to love, admire, adore and worship him. He never ran for public office because he would have had to make tough decisions and take strong stands on issues. He much prefers strutting around and being seen at all the right parties and functions. He´s been on my "----" list as long as I can remember. Except for his military service, he´s a big zero in my book.

What Powell and the vast majority of Blacks don´t "get" is that the GOP is a party of ideas, not a party of buddies. I have listened to many Black leaders and pundits on various shows and most of them are frankly in la la land, nowhere near reality. So, NO, I can´t accept their ideas and I don´t want to be their buddy. When you don´t go along with the progressive herd, you are labeled ignorant.
Baloney.
I don´t need Powell´s approval to have different ideas than him and his progressive crowd and it doesn´t make me ignorant. I understand what they are talking about, I simply KNOW it is wrong. Not FEEL it is wrong, KNOW it is wrong.
On the other hand, the GOP does need to understand that if it wants to make any progress it needs to learn to craft a message that convinces enough of those that function through feelings and cliques to side with the GOP for elections. Right now, that battle is being lost.

The man shot dead by an FBI agent in Orlando, Florida early today was "about to sign a statement" admitting to a role, along with Boston Marathon bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev, in an unsolved triple murder in Massachusetts in 2011, two people with direct knowledge of the case told ABC News. Ibragim Todashev "just went crazy," and pulled a knife during his interview with the FBI, said state and federal law enforcement officials briefed on the latest strange twist in the investigation of the Boston Marathon bombing. One official said an FBI agent was stabbed several times,

WASHINGTON- Senator Elizabeth Warren has found a publisher two months after the Massachusetts Democrat began shopping her book proposal. Henry Holt and Company, one of the nation’s oldest publishers, announced it had obtained the rights to publish the book, which it characterized as telling both “Senator Warren’s improbable rise from a working class family in Oklahoma to the United States Senate,” as well as providing “a rousing call for protecting the middle class.” The book will be published in the spring of 2014 and will be edited by John Sterling, who is editor at large for Macmillan,

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. She was determined to

A large majority of Americans hold a bleak outlook on the state of morality in the United States, as 72% said the nation’s moral values are “getting worse,” and only 20% said that moral values are “getting better,” according to a recent Gallup survey. The poll specifically showed that Americans who attend church weekly, are married, or are Republican, were the most negative about the country’s moral direction. But even Democrats, people who attend church infrequently, and the unmarried had high negative outlooks about the nation’s moral values. In the telephone survey of 1,535 adults

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa on Wednesday displayed a string of emails showing his failed efforts to get an update from the Treasury Department inspector general’s office about its investigation into the IRS practice of targeting conservative groups who sought tax-exempt status. Emails seeking the information date back to September 2012, six weeks before the November election. At that point, the U.S. Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration had promised an update. Based on other evidence provided to the committee, the inspector general was aware of the IRS practice of targeting conservative groups

Piled high amid a trail of destruction, these tragic horses are among more than 100 thought to have been killed in the Oklahoma tornado. As well as human lives that were lost, farms around the suburb of Moore took a direct hit from the giant twister which swept up everything in its path with winds of more than 200mph and the power of up to 600 nuclear bombs. Witnesses who cowered in terror described seeing ´horses and stuff flying around everywhere´ and returning to find ´scorched earth´ and crumpled buildings. They came across distressing scenes of horses

A mother-of-two described tonight how she put her own life on the line by trying to persuade the soldier’s murderers to hand over their weapons. Cub scout leader Ingrid Loyau-Kennett selflessly engaged the terrorists in conversation and kept her nerve as one of them told her: “We want to start a war in London tonight.” Mrs Loyau-Kennett, 48, from Cornwall, was one of the first people on the scene after the two Islamic extremists butchered a soldier in Woolwich, south east London. She was photographed by onlookers confronting one of the attackers who was holding a bloodied knife.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.
