| SAN FRANCISCO – Colin Kaepernick typically is a low-key, keep-it-short guy with the media. Even he had to cut loose a few superlatives after what he did Saturday night in his playoff debut to put the San Francisco 49ers within one win of the Super Bowl trip that eluded them a year ago. "It´s been amazing. I couldn´t ask for anything more," the new age quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers said after his mix of record-breaking running, resilience after early setbacks and big-armed passing gave the 49ers a 45-31 victory over the Green Bay Packers

When Kaepernick was QBing at Nevada-Reno, he certainly caused fits for my beloved Boise State Broncos. He´s got the whole package, and I expect he´ll be around the NFL for a long, long time... if he can stay healthy, of course.
(Personally I could do without the tattoos.)

The ´read option´ wasn´t good enough for the Jets. Tebow´s strength was the ´read option´.
Kaepernick was a thrill to watch. After the heart stopping game between Manning and the Ravens, it was a real pleasure to watch Kaepernick dismantle the Packers.

#4 bite your tongue !....
As a cheesehead it was painful to watch my beloved Pack get their butts handed to them. Nonetheless, I didn´t really expect they would beat the 49ers who are talented, deep & balanced. Congrats to them !
I don´t understand the surprise about Kapernick. He´s played very well all year. We here in flyover country knew he was good. Media idiots and all that apparently.

Yestrday´s scores reminded me of the old AFL, where every game seemed to have a total of 60 or 70 points scored...

I too am a Pack fan. This year I´ve been surprised by the 49er and the Seahawks. Both have played well during the playoffs and I wish them well. I also find the high scoring games exciting to watch, so yesterday was fun, despite our loss.

I don´t have a favorite in the playoffs since the Steelers crashed and burned.
Alot of fun football yesterday.

Dittos #5, love my Pack but the Whiners look good. And a dear friend who is niner fan wants the seaweeds, not Atlanta. They would play in SF and the niners are hard to beat there.

Kap is the real deal. I admit his arms look like my middle school notebook but at least the tattoos appear to be religious or spiritual quotes.

Was rooting for GB, but they lost it themselves. Have never seen a rookie QB with such a confident look in his eyes as Kaepernick.

Amazing player. However, one well-placed hit by a linebacker could end his career.

As a CAL alum, I´ve loved Aaron Rodgers ever since he set foot in Berkeley! Made a Packers fan out of me (always hated the 49ers....old Raiders fan here). But then our beloved CAL Bears had to play Nevada-Reno, and I discovered Kaepernick....wow, it was love at first sight....another Aaron Rodgers in the making, I thought. Well, little did I know!! (or maybe I did) Watching the game last night was kinda´ bittersweet, to say the least....

I´m so glad the Niners are relying on Kaepernick now. Alex Smith´s performance was always inconsistent; just when you thought he hit his stride, he´d choke.
Kaepernick could be the next Steve Young or Joe Montana. I´m glad he´s the Niners´ go-to-guy. I look forward to seeing him play his first Super Bowl!

Americans in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll sharply reject special scrutiny of conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service, suspect an administration cover-up of the Benghazi incident and express substantial distrust of the federal government more generally. (Snip) Longer-term impacts of contentious current issues remain to be seen, but there´s potential for significant damage to the administration. Americans by a vast 74-20 percent see the IRS´ behavior as inappropriate, with most feeling that way strongly - and 56 percent see it as a deliberate attempt to harass conservative organizations, not a mere administrative error.

A massive tornado ripped through Moore, Okla., Monday afternoon, leveling a huge swath of a residential area in the suburb of Oklahoma City. Video footage from KFOR-TV showed houses, businesses and at least two schools completely demolished, with cars strewn about. Police and emergency crews have begun to respond, but debris has clogged roadways. There is no tally yet on injuries or deaths, but news anchors said significant casualties are expected. At least one large fire has broken out amid the rubble. The twister is already being compared to the May 3, 1999 storm that ripped through Moore

LOS ANGELES - More poor people live in the nation´s suburbs than in urban cities because of affordable housing, service-sector jobs and the increased use of housing vouchers, according to a study released Monday. The number of those in poverty living in suburbs jumped 67 percent between 2000 and 2011, a much larger increase than in cities, researchers for the Brookings Institution said. Suburbs, however, still have a smaller percentage of the poor than cities do. The report notes that poor people were pulled to the suburbs by more affordable homes and followed jobs that were often low paying.

LOS ANGELES -- flocking to Southern California beaches are used to feeding the meter or paying a parking attendant. Not so along the less developed north coast where it´s customary to ditch cars on the shoulder of Highway 1 to surf, swim or picnic. That sandy line that long defined the state´s disparate beach culture may soon fade. In search of new revenue, the state parks system is eyeing parking fees for parts of the Northern California shoreline where none existed or considering hiking rates to visit popular beaches south of Los Angeles during peak periods.

CAIRO — The pale, young Christian woman sat handcuffed in the courtroom, accused of insulting Islam while teaching history of religions to fourth-graders. A team of Islamist lawyers with long beards sang in unison, "All except the Prophet Muhammad." (Snip) Blasphemy charges were not uncommon in Egypt under the now-ousted autocrat Hosni Mubarak´s regime, but there has been a surge in such cases in recent months, according to rights activists. The trend is widely seen as a reflection of the growing power and confidence of Islamists, particularly the ultraconservative Salafis. "Salafis are the engineers of these stories,"

A shooting as the Warriors game let out Thursday night left two fans dead - the driver of a Porsche was killed by bullets and the passenger was killed as he staggered out onto Interstate 880 in Oakland. Now, police are turning to Warriors fans and nearby surveillance video from the O.co Coliseum for help in finding the killers. Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said Friday that the two men were leaving the arena about 10:35 p.m., when the shooting broke out. The victims identities were not released Friday, but the driver was a 30-year-old man

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement

While many Americans were tuned into news coverage of the massive damage from tornadoes ravaging the state of Oklahoma, Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse took to the Senate floor to rail against his Republican colleagues for denying the theory of anthropogenic global warming. Whitehouse spent 15 minutes chastising GOP senators and justified his remarks by alluding to states that seek federal assistance in the wake of natural disasters. “So, you may have a question for me,” Whitehouse said. “Why do you care? Why do you, Sheldon Whitehouse, Democrat of Rhode Island, care
