Irony marks White House gun blitz

Ironies abound when you look back over this past week’s White House effort to take firearms out of the hands of most everyone except the armed bodyguards of all the bloviating bigshots who think you’re too dumb or unimportant to have a gun to protect your family. At the order of President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden’s taskforce held a couple of days of talks on various sides of the gun issue. (Snip) A White House presspool report that came to me quoted Biden supporting “universal background checks, not just closing the gumshoe loophole.” Gumshoe loophole?

They want to outlaw our weapons and at the same time Bam Bam grants himself armed protection for life!

Former Senator James Webb tried to enter the Capitol building with a 9mm pistol in his possession. He blamed his aide, and nothing happened to either of them.
One of dead ted kennedy´s armed guards tried to enter the capitol building carrying his UZI, and nothing happened to him.

(I worked an event at my university back in the early 1970s - not long after dead ted kennedy killed mary jo kopechne - and my dimwitted dean managed to get dead ted as a commencement speaker. dead ted had his own private security detail, and I had to work with them on the issue of security. And his main bodyguard told me that when dead ted spoke at the commencement, with 10,000 people in attendance, the bodyguard would rather that all 10,000 people in attendance die, rather than dead ted dying. Absolutely true story.)

if the citizens of Amerika are disarmed...why would obama need armed guards

Just read between the lines. It´s never about public safety; it´s about government control of the people.

Oaths to protect the Constitution of the United States ring hollow from the mouths of those whose actions do not live up to the oath itself.

Meanwhile, thousands of families continue to keep a wary eye on loved ones with serious mental illness. They can´t have them hospitalized for evaluation, because their potential for violence doesn´t yet meet the ´imminent´ threshold. And they can´t ensure that the loved one cannot go purchase a gun and be the next Adam Lanza. Of course, the most likely victims aren´t children in an elementary school. The most likely victims are the families of the person with serious mental illness. These killings rarely make the national news, but they happen daily and the mental health community is well aware of them. Of course, if nothing is done, one or more of these individuals will become an Adam Lanza - do something completely outrageously horrible - and we will once again wring our hands and claim we can do nothing.

Must be early. I read that: "A White House cesspool report... "

Just read another article about the George Soros´ funded Center for (non)American Progress that has a Leftest Gun Grabbing List ready to go. So who will prove more powerful, the incredibly evil George Soros and his Flying Monkeys or the NRA and the American people?

Poster 6, James Holmes set off many alarms including a envelope full of disturbing materials he mailed to his psychiatrist who conveniently said she didn´t receive until after Holmes shot up the cinema in Aurora, CO. In the Lanza case the system worked, he tried to ourchase weapons but was denied. So he stole the guns from his negligent mother. Everyone is opposed to mental deficients having access to guns, but the far left obama could care less about safety for Americans. He just seeks to disarm law abiding Americans in the name of security. As another poster said a few days ago, "it´s not about guns, it´s not about gun control, it´s about control.´"

I don´t think there is a special ´bodyguard´ carry license, just the same old ´concealed carry permits´ that the rest of us can have, so I guess Feinstein, Schumer, Soros and the rest will give up their guns as well as their bodyguards!

US Court Denies German
Home-Schoolers Asylum

The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld the Obama administration´s refusal to grant asylum to the Romeike family. U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder filed against the family, arguing that asylum should not be granted because home schooling isn´t a fundamental right protected under religious freedom. The Romeikes fled Germany in 2008 facing criminal prosecution for home schooling. In 2010, they were granted political asylum by immigration Judge Lawrence Burman, but his decision was overturned by the Board of Immigration Appeals last year. On Tuesday, the three-judge panel of the Sixth Circuit issued a unanimous decision against the family.

While the White House and many lawmakers push to grant legal status to immigrants who crossed the border illegally, the Romeike family thought they followed the rules -- but now face deportation. They are devout Catholics who emigrated from Germany in 2008 to home school their six children in Tennessee. As Uwe Romeike told Fox News, it is illegal to do that in Germany. (Snip) The U.S. granted the Romeikes political asylum, but in 2010 the Justice Department intervened, ruling that home-schooling could not be used as grounds to seek citizenship.

Need leaders worthy of respect

Respect for authority was one of the key concepts drilled into me as a child by my parents, who came of age in the Great Depression and then endured the rigors and discipline demanded by World War II. The inclination to respect authority stuck with me while many others in the Baby Boomer generation began to raise hell on the streets and inside of families, challenging parental and social authority. Having said that, the corollary of respecting authority is the expectation of being treated with respect by others, all the way up to our national leaders.

Here’s a riddle, but it’s not funny, and I’m almost afraid to contemplate the answer: What do you get when you cross aggressive government attempts to strip citizens of their Second Amendment rights with at least 65 million American gun owners, who have just bought roughly 65 million more guns in only the last four years? Let’s just say, “trouble” could be a euphemism for an answer. (Snip) Why are our government “servants” — elected and otherwise — trying to criminalize law-abiding taxpayers with confiscatory and unconstitutional laws and regulations?

It´s not about guns; it’s about keeping control of your life. The gun control “war” launched against American citizens and the Constitution this past week by the elites in Washington, D.C., is most certainly not about keeping little Bobby and Mary Jane safe in school. (Snip) This past week, with great showmanship, Obama squeezed the kids like triggers; he fired them like little emotional bullets into America’s heart to disrupt your ability to think clearly about what is happening to our country.

Obama should emulate King

If ever a confluence of significant events called Americans to a day of sober reflection, it is Jan. 21, 2013. On that date, we mark the Inauguration of a president; the start of Barack Obama’s second term in the White House. And we also observe the annual Martin Luther King Day memorial to the nation’s revered civil rights leader. Fifty years ago, when King proclaimed his civil rights Dream, it was all but unimaginable that the nation today would not just have a black president, but would be returning him to the White House for a second term.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

The dam protecting the IRS scandal began to crack today when Lois Lerner, the IRS official who announced, and apologized for, the improper singling out of conservative-leaning organizations by IRS employees under her command, announced through her criminal defense lawyer that she will not testify as scheduled tomorrow before the House Oversight Committee. Rather, she will assert her Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination. This marks an enormous milestone in the IRS investigation. It can now be taken as more or less established that crimes were committed by Obama administration employees. Lerner’s lawyer tried to minimize the significance

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

The public got its first look Thursday at Lois Lerner, who has gone from faceless IRS bureaucrat to the face that launched what feels like 1,000 congressional hearings and conspiracy theories. But it was only a brief sighting since she didn´t stay long at a House hearing to further probe her role in how some IRS workers came to target conservative groups seeking tax-exempt status. (Snip)She did make a short statement to declare her innocence, however. Lerner´s motivation was more transparent than much of what the IRS has done in connection with this controversy. House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa said embattled IRS official Lois Lerner waived her Fifth Amendment rights and will be hauled back to appear before his panel again. The California Republican said Lerner’s Fifth Amendment right to avoid self-incrimination was voided when she gave an opening statement this morning denying any wrongdoing and professing pride in her government service. “When I asked her her questions from the very beginning, I did so so she could assert her rights prior to any statement,” Issa told POLITICO. “She chose not to do so — so she waived.”
