| In Jan. 11 comments made with Afghan President Hamid Karzai, President Obama said the U.S. has "[fallen] short of ideal" in Afghanistan. Moreover, although he took the time to recognize "our extraordinary military, intelligence, and diplomatic teams," Obama made it clear that in his opinion we have not "achieved everything that some might have imagined us achieving in the best of scenarios." Fortunately, at least he thinks "we are in the process of achieving [our] goal" in Afghanistan--we´re just not there yet.

Comments: For a "man" who was sworn to protect US, 0bama sure hates our Military...that keeps him safe.

Karzai will be one of the Talibans biggest targets once the US leaves for cooperating with the great astan. He needs to start looking for an exile country. Cuba´s nice this time of year.

The phrasing sounds eerily familiar: "the war situation has developed not necessarily to Japan´s advantage..." - Emperor Hirohito, 14 August 1945 The short story is that we won the war under Bush and then surrendered under Obama.

When Obama says that US accomplishments are "short of ideal" in Afghanistan he is really talking about his leadership.
Since Obama has failed to come up with a strategy tough enough to win the military conflict in Afghanistan, the best thing is for him and the USA to bug out of there as soon as possible, and quit sacrificing the lives of American service members for nothing.

Obama always says he won´t make any decisions until he consults with his commanders in the field. Then he goes against their advice thinking he knows best. Which explains why we are where we are today.

The last thing I remember being covered on Afghanistan was implementing "The Surge" replicating the successful strategy used in Iraq. Did it work?

The whole county should have been turned to glass in 2002. Yeah, sort of short of ideal.

Ideal for me would have been to go in there like Genghis Kahn leaving a clear message that they did not want us to ever come back and then tell them that if any of them ever show up in our country or attack any of us ever again we will be back. That would have been ideal for me short of that it should have been retaliation and withdrawal. Pouring lives and treasure into that cesspool was another failure by our leaders. And once again our military was magnificent under horrible condition - lousy leaders. Too bad we cannot elect the leaders they deserve. Now that would be ideal.

President Obama’s speech on Thursday was the most important statement on counterterrorism policy since the 2001 attacks, a momentous turning point in post-9/11 America. For the first time, a president stated clearly and unequivocally that the state of perpetual warfare that began nearly 12 years ago is unsustainable for a democracy and must come to an end in the not-too-distant future. “Our systematic effort to dismantle terrorist organizations must continue,” Mr. Obama said in the speech at the National Defense University. “But this war, like all wars, must end. That’s what history advises.

Madrid - On May 1, 2021 Baltasar Garzón’s suspension from the bench for authorizing illegal wiretaps in the Gürtel corruption investigation will expire. The crusading magistrate will be 65. “On that day I will return to take up my post as a judge,” says Garzón from Bogota, from where is to travel to Argentina this weekend. Since his disqualification, Garzón has been a nomad, with seven jobs in six countries, including serving as director of the International Center for the Promotion of Human Rights in Argentina; a University of Washington post; and advisor to the Colombia Attorney

Hong Kong - The new H7N9 bird flu virus can be transmitted between mammals not only via direct contact but also in airborne droplets, and may be capable of spreading from person to person, Chinese and American researchers have found. (Snip) "The findings suggest that the possibility of this virus evolving further to form the basis of a future pandemic threat cannot be excluded," said the research team, led by bird flu expert and microbiologist Yi Guan. The virus can also infect pigs, but could not be transmitted from pig to pig or from pigs to other animals, the study showed, although

Washington - Across-the-board budget cuts have created Furlough Friday in Washington and elsewhere, as the one-day closing of four federal agencies forced an unpaid day off for 115,000 workers. Employees at the Environmental Protection Agency, the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Internal Revenue Service and the Office of Management and Budget stayed home on Friday. The furlough affects about 5 percent of the federal workforce, according to Cory Bythrow, communications director at the National Federation of Federal Employees, a union representing government

The rugged landscape created by volcanic eruptions and tectonic plate shifts in east and south Africa millions of years ago may be what prompted our human ancestors to start walking on two legs, a study said Friday. The research published in the journal Antiquity challenges the commonly-held theory that early hominins (members of the broad human family) were forced onto two feet on the ground because climate change reduced the number of trees they lived in. (Snip) "Our research shows that bipedalism may have developed as a response to the terrain, rather than a response to climatically-driven

Annapolis, Md. - President Obama used a commencement speech before Naval Academy graduates on Friday to urge them to follow an “inner compass” and to warn that rising numbers of sexual assaults in the military threatened to erode America’s faith in the armed forces. The president praised the military as the nation’s “most trusted institution,” but took note of the recent cases in which service members have been charged with sexual assault. He said those people “threaten the trust and discipline which makes our military strong.” “We need your honor, that inner compass that guides

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

What´s so interesting about 60 tea partiers protesting the IRS in San Jose, California on Tuesday, May 21st? The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. What was a DHS agent doing at the San Jose Tea Party protest? (snip) they weren´t just spying on us in San Jose and monitoring us in San Francisco, they were watching us throughout the entire state

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
