| JUNEAU, Alaska — A federal judge in Alaska has thrown out a plan designating more than 187,000 square miles as habitat for threatened polar bears. U.S. District Judge Ralph Beistline, in a written order dated Thursday, said the designation was too extensive and presented ‘‘a disconnect between the twin goals of protecting a cherished resource and allowing for growth and much needed economic development.’’ He sent the matter back to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to correct ‘‘substantive and procedural deficiencies.’’

I thought polar bears only lived on blocks of ice that are melting beneath their feet and killing them.Who knew they could walk on land also.

DETROIT — Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan has told a Detroit church audience that African Americans should pool their money and buy up property as a way to save the city.(snip) The leader of the Chicago-based movement says Christian ministers shouldn´t compromise in their opposition to gay marriage. He says there should be unity between Christians and Muslims because both faiths revere Jesus. He also says he isn´t anti-Semitic, citing the fact he´s "never been arrested, not even for spitting on a sidewalk" and has never defaced a synagogue.

Sen. Max Baucus (D-Mont.), the Senate Finance Committee Chairman, predicted in an interview airing Sunday that the scandal surrounding the Internal Revenue Service selectively targeting conservative political groups will grow. “I have a hunch that a lot more is going to come out, frankly,” Baucus told Bloomberg News. “It’s broader than the current focus.” Steven Miller, the acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service who was ousted earlier this week, is testifying Friday before the House Ways and Means committee in what is expected to be the first of many congressional grillings over the scandal.

President Barack Obama says he´s ready for more questions at a news conference Thursday about revelations that the IRS singled out conservative groups for extra scrutiny. Obama has scheduled a joint news conference for noon with visiting Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. You can watch it LIVE in the video player above when it begins. The president announced the question-and-answer session Wednesday as he delivered a brief statement about how his administration is handling the IRS situation. Obama says the agency´s conduct was inexcusable, and he´s angry about it. He also said the acting IRS commissioner has resigned.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has a personal reason for wanting to ban discrimination in the workplace. "My niece is a lesbian," Reid told the Huffington Post on Wednesday. "She´s a school teacher. Her employment shouldn´t be affected with that. We should have a law that says that, not just the good graces of wherever you work." Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) predicted Thursday that President Obama will renounce his signature healthcare law in the face of mounting conservative opposition to the reform. Bachmann said the ongoing scandal involving the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and challenges in implementing the Affordable Care Act put the law´s survival "back on the table." "The issue is now revived," she said at a press conference. WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. He said it isn´t difficult to figure out who´s doing what at the agency.

It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.
