| The Defense Department has moved ahead with a reduction in healthcare coverage for veterans in select areas of the country. Starting Oct. 1, 2013, the Pentagon will reduce the number of Prime Service Areas (PSAs) where it offers the TRICARE Prime managed care option to retirees and their family members. A number of AF and Navy vets and their wives, all on TRICARE, go to the pool where I do therapy several times a week. I know several of them voted for Obama because they practically spit in my face when I tried to tell them about the NHS. Very gentle and diplomatic I was, honestly, not a bit like Jimmy D. Since the election I´ve been extremely kind to all of them, even to giving a quilter (who frequently burns her arms on her iron) a tube of BurnFree, which is wonderful stuff. I am, as Mum often said, killing them with kindness.
Perhaps they´ll vote Republican in 2014. Doesn´t hurt to try. Nobody more fervent in politics than a reformed Democrat who´s been mugged (or, in this case, worse).

#2, you should start being more forceful and remind them that the cuts are what Democrats have been looking to do for some time, and now have the rationale to enact now.
Democrats are hoping to have the Republicans come to save the programs which the Democrats then will take credit for saving, and blame GOP for cutting something else.

I know two big time O supporters who depend on Tricare. But it looks as if neither will be denied service. There really is no justice.

I´m borrowing Obama tactics--"softly, softly, catchee monkey." I haven´t been to the pool since this broke (Friday night) so I don´t know how they´re reacting. I´m guessing they´re going to feel angry and betrayed. This is not the time to tell the close-knit group (about ten women, two men) that they´re suckers. I´m sure it´s beginning to dawn on them that they are.
Anyway, I´m pretty certain they won´t take kindly to someone with a Redcoat accent who speaks forcefully. Down here in Charleston, that´s almost as bad as being a Yankee ;) If my approach doesn´t work, it doesn´t work. I can always chat with the others not in this particular group. Creating a resentful atmosphere in a place where I have to go (no other choice) is not a good idea.

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. It is understood that a contingency plan is in place for the unlikely event that an attempt would be made on the President’s life. The Secret Service also have diplomatic immunity which will allow them to shoot to kill a would-be assassin without fear of prosecution. As part of the “evacuation route” plan, they would be able to spirit the President by chopper to one of the carriers where a jet is on standby to take him back to the United States.
