President Obama will take the oath of office later this month “on a stack of Bibles,” the Washington Post tells us. He will place his left hand on Bibles owned by Abraham Lincoln and the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Well, that’s a relief. Interestingly, not included in the stack is the Koran, about which Mr. Obama spoke so glowingly in Egypt four years ago. (No Bibles openly displayed there.) Now, swearing on a stack of Bibles ordinarily conveys seriousness of purpose and deeper commitment to carry through on the words you have just uttered.
In case you all didn´t know it,the oath of office has been rewritten to exclude enforcing the border or fed pot laws.It also give the president the authority to create unlimited spending by exe. orders and dismisses the 2nd amendment.
He probably chose the Lincoln Bible because O´s favorite Lincoln quote, "You can fool some of the people all the time," illustrates the principle that got him elected and then re-elected. Being the ignoramus that he is, he probably doesn´t know that there are two other clauses in Lincoln´s statement. But the MLK Bible mystifies me: O doesn´t believe in not judging people by the color of their skin and he certainly has shown no evidence that he believes in the importance of the content of people´s character.
FTA: The inauguration of a re-elected president ought to be the occasion for national harmony.... This inauguration, tragically, begins an administration unfettered even by the need to stand for re-election, unafraid of impeachment, and unaccountable to a watchdog press. Instead, we have a lapdog press....Unchecked by the courts and unrestrained by the Congress, President Obama is feeling his power.
This is an exceptionally well-written piece with clarity about what BHO, jr has done and is doing. I just pray (and I do mean pray not just wish) that enough Americans are willing to say STOP!
It deserves to be a Must Read for a week. The bold emphasis is mine - I am shuddering with dread from reading this article.
I don´t understand we even have this ceremony any more - they DO NOT UPHOLD the Constitution and they are lying when they are sworn in. Doesn´t really matter what they put their hands on - as a matter of fact I would prefer the Word of God not even be involved in this!
My thoughts as well #5. Obama should not use a Bible, I agree with Lawrence O´Donnell that Obama doesn´t believe anything in the Bible. It´s an insult to all Christians and God that he would use the Bible. I would rather he be true to who he is and openly use the Koran.
A military couple whose engagement ring was secretly bought by actor Paul Walker came forward today after finally having their suspicions confirmed that the star was behind the act of amazing generosity. Soldier Kyle Upham and his new wife Kristen were in a Santa Barbara jewellery store in 2004 looking for a diamond ring shortly before he was sent on his second deployment back to Iraq. The couple quickly realized that the other shopper in the store was Fast And The Furious star Walker and struck up a conversation. Kyle revealed to the actor that he had just come back
Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin spoke today at Liberty University, blasting what she called a "war on Christmas" and promoting her latest book. Palin, LU Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. and college spokesman Johnnie Moore, sat atop the stage at convocation to discuss Palin´s career, her beliefs and her book - "Good Tidings and Great Joy: Protecting the Heart of Christmas." (Snip) "[Palin is] attacked more than anyone I can remember," Falwell said Wednesday. However, her remarks this morning were met with thunderous waves of applause from the surrounding students.
The Obama´s younger dog is still getting used to the spotlight as it made a major faux pas during a White House ceremony Wednesday afternoon. Sunny Obama jumped up on a toddler who was a guest at the unveiling of the official Christmas decorations, pushing the little girl to the ground. The girl, later identified as Ashtyn Gardner, is one of the hundreds of children from military families who were on hand to help the First Lady display this year´s decorations. [Video] President Obama on Wednesday declared that addressing income inequality would be the focus of “all” of the White House’s efforts “for the rest of my presidency.” In a sweeping address that touched on raising the minimum wage, investing in infrastructure and ending tax breaks for the wealthy, Obama warned that the American economy has become “profoundly unequal,” declaring economic mobility the “challenge of our time.” “The combined trends of increasing inequality and decreasing mobility pose a fundamental threat to the American dream, our way of life, and what we stand for around the globe,” he said in an hour-long
A stunning new poll of young adults aged 18 to 29 shows that in large numbers, they have turned against President Obama and ObamaCare. Among the youngest in this group, those aged 18-24, a full 52% support a recall effort that would throw Obama out of office. The number is only a little better among 18-29 year-olds, 47%. Individual members of Congress actually fare a little better with 45% of Millennials favoring a recall. A majority do, however, favor recalling Congress as a whole. Since his reelection, Obama´s overall approval with young adults has plummeted 11 points to just 41%;
SPRINGFIELD — Illinois lawmakers narrowly approved a historic, sweeping overhaul of government worker pension systems Tuesday, overcoming years of political and philosophical differences in an attempt to address one of the state´s most pressing financial problems. The collective exhale from the state´s political leaders may be short-lived, however. Even before Gov. Pat Quinn carries through with his promise to sign the bill, unions are prepping a lawsuit to try to overturn it. They contend the benefit cuts are unconstitutional and unfair to employees and retirees. Supporters hailed the bill as a solution that would "ensure retirement security" for current and
If you need a minute to scrape your brain from the ceiling, go ahead, because this is quite stunning. This Friday, conservative commentator and Crossfire co-host S.E. Cupp is guest-hosting Piers Morgan Live, and her guest for the full hour is Glenn Beck. On CNN. That’s right, this is actually happening on a non-Fox News network. Beck’s been making the media rounds to promote his new book Miracles and Massacres, even returning to his old Fox stomping grounds to go one-on-one with Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity. But this time, Beck is taking an even farther walk down memory lane,
The nation’s view of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, colored by the horrific Benghazi assassination of the U.S. ambassador to Libya on her watch, has suddenly turned upside down, with more now holding an unfavorable opinion of the likely 2016 presidential candidate. A new YouGov/Economist poll found Clinton, whose approval ratings have typically been sky high, with an unfavorable rating of 48 percent, more than the 46 percent who have a favorable opinion of her. The YouGov pollsters said that the change in American attitudes toward Clinton "suggests that negative press surrounding the tragic
President Obama will cast growing income inequality and a decline in economic mobility as a “fundamental threat to the American dream” during a speech Wednesday in Washington. The speech will serve as an early preview for next year’s State of the Union address, according to a White House official, who said Obama would focus much of his energy over the next three years on the issue. “The decisions we make over the next few years will determine whether or not our children will grow up in an America where, if you work hard, you can get ahead,” the official said.
Bill Clinton, the cliché goes, was the first black president, no matter his skin color. That being the case, Barack Obama is not the first black president, or the first African-American president, if you prefer, but the first hippie president. Clinton’s southern background and lifestyle were indeed more typically black, just as Obama’s was more typically hippie. And we’re not just talking about the “Choom gang” here, scarfing “Maui Wowie” on the sands of Oahu. We’re talking about all of it, the whole multi-culti-missing-white-mother-vanished-Kenyan-father-anti-imperialist-America-is-always-the-enemy-and-don’t-you-forget-it-nine-yards. And like most hippie culture as I knew and experienced it, it wasn’t about “peace and love.” Not
Good stuff from Jonathan Turley at today’s House hearing on executive power, although I regret that I couldn’t find a more user-friendly format for you to watch. There’s no compilation clip; you’ll have to make do with the C-SPAN embed by fast-forwarding to the time cues I give you and being patient while the vid buffers (and buffers, and buffers).(Snip)That brings us to point two: Even if Congress can’t stop Obama, the courts can. The problem there, though, says Turley, is that O and the DOJ have argued successfully in many cases that no one has standing to sue him
During a presentation at the White House in which President Barack Obama touted the benefits of the Affordable Care Act, the president declared that his signature health care reform law was not going to be repealed. This assertion led his administration members, his staff, and audience members to rise from their seats and give the president a standing ovation. Obama said that ACA opponents’ alternative to the health care reform law is to champion repeal and going back to the health care delivery system status quo ante. He specifically cited Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) who he said was asked directly for
A woman has revealed how difficult it is to eat healthily and stay full when living off an average food stamp budget. Melinda Moulton, from Huntington, Vermont, was one of 200 people to take part in the 3Squares Challenge, which saw her living for a week on just $36 worth of food, or around $1.71 a meal. Opting to try and eat as healthily as possible, Ms Moulton resorted to cheap foods like yogurt for breakfast, two handfuls of peanuts for lunch and lentil stew for dinner, all of which left her unsatisfied.´I don´t know how people do it,´ said
Just over two weeks ago, MSNBC host Martin Bashir delivered a harsh piece of commentary that culminated in the suggestion that someone should “s-h-i-t” in former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin‘s (R-AK) mouth. Bashir offered an abject apology on his next broadcast, but a chorus of critics continued to demand action against the host. After a reported “vacation” for the host earlier this week, Bashir announced, Wednesday afternoon, that MSNBC and Martin Bashir are parting ways. Here’s the statement from Martin Bashir, via email: After making an on-air apology, I asked for permission to take some additional time out around the Thanksgiving holiday. Upon
