| Our commander-in-chief made a wise decision today, declaring a withdrawal of American troops from daily combat by this spring. A few years ago, he had pledged to defeat the Taliban. But that could not be accomplished because the Pashtun tribes did not reject the Pashtun-based Taliban, the Afghan government proved feckless, and Pakistan offered the insurgents a 1,500-mile sanctuary. (Snip)I am opposed to Mr. Hagel’s nomination because he does not demonstrate that he will fight, as would Mr. Panetta, to prevent serious financial damage to our military.

I heard panetta the other day accusing congress of slashing military spending.I couldn´t believe what I was hearing or that republicans suddenly became anti-military overnight. The spending has to be tied to more foolish Obama spending in other areas.Like the Sandy pork bill.

Last year, before the election took over, the GOP in the House came up with a plan for cuts in other spending so the military would not suffer. Where has the bill been all of this time? On the desk of Harry Reid.
Perhaps the House should bring that bill back to life and promote it to the public like Zero does. If they have to buy time on the LSM channels then do it. Just don´t tell them what the topic is ahead of time (or lie like Obama does), so you can get a time slot the uninformed can tune in, say 7 or 7:30 pm.

However “hard” the new ‘triggers,” though, they will be in the wrong place. Under the “Gang” architecture, remember “Provisional” legalization of the 11 million illegals currently in the U.S. comes first, virtually immediately. Then comes whatever border security the bill will produce, then (Step 3) the granting of green cards and ultimately citizenship to the already legalized “provisionals.”

Texas Gov. Rick Perry told The Wall Street Journal Wednesday that the American people will not trust Washington on immigration reform until the U.S.-Mexican border is secured. “I’m not sure they can pass a piece of legislation that promises to secure the border and does all these other things from the standpoint of legalizing individuals who are here, and modernizing the program that allows people to come into the United States, until they have shown Americans that they’re serious about securing the border,” he said. President Obama told a German audience today that the U.S. lags behind other countries because Americans don´t speak enough foreign languages. It’s not the first time he’s expressed the sentiment: back in 2008, Obama said, “It´s embarrassing when Europeans come over here, they all speak English, they speak French, they speak German. And then we go over to Europe and all we can say is merci beaucoup, right?" Obama may be right that Americans should speak more foreign languages. (Of course, that leaves aside the propriety of lambasting the people you lead while representing them in a foreign country.)

He has made news recently by urging his allies to use what he considers to be the political equivalent of the One Ring, which, like its fantasy cousin, will bring certain victory. An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
