Seattle Woman Vows to Eat, Drink
Only Starbucks Items for a Year

Call it the Year of the Latte, or the Panini. When the new year rolls around, some people vow to spend more time with their family. Others pledge to step up their Pilates routines. But Beautiful Existence — yes, that’s the legal name of a real person, not a philosophical question triggered by the new year — has another resolution for 2013: To eat and drink only items from Starbucks for 12 straight months. Based in Seattle — like Starbucks — Beautiful Existence, who’s a wife, mother and veteran of the Year-Long Challenge

Comments:
Just reading this makes me lose my appetite for a year.

I read somewhere that you are what you eat. If that´s the case, I suspect that at some point in her development she subsisted on a diet of fruit cake.

I´m surprised to read that her Starbucks has a variety of food to offer. The only Starbucks I ever enter is the one at my Barnes & Noble and their cases are filled with stale muffins and rock-hard brownies. I don´t drink their coffee, either, but an occasional hot chocolate is welcome. Panini? Wow!

Ah, the power of the internet. Silly, self-absorbed people get to annoy more than their (very) small circle of friends. Now, she gets to annoy anyone dumb enough to read this article.

Good for her! I´m glad that she can afford Starbuck´s pre-packaged frozen foods. Good luck with that new "diet", although Im predicting that nothing good will come from it.

Most amusing! I vote for a name change from ´Beautiful Existence´ to ´Vacant Cranium´...

Ya´ gotta´ love the fruitcakes of the West Coast - what ain´t fruits and nuts is flakes.

The difference between a few Starbucks items a day - and the coffee I can put together here (which shames Starbucks gloop) - over a 20 year period - could have paid for the house I live in...

Rock on Espresso dweeb!

If I owned Starbucks, I would kick her out if every store. Like that guy who ate the worst of Mc D´s and then blamed them for his health problems, she´s using this product in a way that it´s not intended and then blaming the product. Next up, a move to ban Starbucks. If you don´t use Starbucks, you don´t realize that a lot of small business gets done there. It´s not just about the food -- or the coffee.

If you spend more than $500 a year at Starbucks, you have lost the right to complain about money, EVER.

I have enough accumulated Starbucks gift cards to live off their food for quite some time, but who would want to? (They used to have really outstanding lemon bars though.) I always take a few on vacation thinking they will have one in the airport, then invariably end up in the only terminal without one.

The one Starbucks food item that I used to really like was the pumpkin scone, but you can so seldom find a fresh one. And, they´re 450 calories.

Considering the cost of Starbucks, this woman must be independently wealthy.

Menendez, Boehner Clash Over
Hastert Rule for Immigration Reform

WASHINGTON – Sen. Bob Menendez expressed displeasure Tuesday over House Speaker John Boehner’s decision to withhold consideration of any immigration reform measure that doesn’t have the support of the majority of the Republican caucus. Menendez (D-N.J.), a member of the Gang of Eight, a bipartisan group of upper-chamber lawmakers who have pieced together a delicate immigration compromise, questioned Boehner’s seriousness about addressing the issue “if he is willing to put tea party politics ahead of the will of the American people.” “It is amazing and alarming that Speaker Boehner would allow a minority of House members –

Gang of Eight Bill is a Disaster

The Congressional Budget Office released its analysis of the Gang of Eight’s immigration proposal today, and spinning is in full swing. The fact is, however, that the basic facts can’t be spun: the bill is a disaster. As with Obamacare, the Gang structured its bill to make it “score” artificially well from a budget perspective. They did this by delaying the newly legalized immigrants’ eligibility for most federal welfare benefits for ten years, which takes those benefits outside of the ten-year window that is scored by the CBO. But that cosmetic shift did little to conceal the plan’s baleful effects.

Another Republican Super PAC is jumping into the increasingly nasty Massachusetts Senate battle, going after Democrat Ed Markey’s biggest weakness — his $1.3 million Maryland home. The America Rising PAC, recently founded by Mitt Romney’s former presidential campaign manager, is planning to deliver a letter today to Maryland’s comptroller urging the state to investigate why Markey has never paid state income taxes there despite living in the upscale Chevy Chase suburb for two decades, the Herald has learned. Markey’s residency status has been dogging him throughout his career, ever since the Herald reported in the early 1990s

Are you ready for the great Sarah Palin Revival of 2013? The former Alaska governor and 2008 Republican vice-presidential candidate is back from her exile at Fox News and, like the former child star played by Bette Davis in Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, the self-described Mama Grizzly is ready for a big comeback. But to be blunt, she seems more like a relic of a bygone, little-missed era in showbiz-cum-politics. Indeed, she no more represents a viable future for the GOP than her 76-year-old “angry bird” running mate, John McCain. To give her full credit,

O n July 14, someone somewhere in India will tap out what is being called the world´s last telegram. India´s state-owned telecom company, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, has been holding out as other countries around the world retire their antiquated telegraph services. Now, after delaying the move for two years, the business operating what is considered to be the world´s last telegraph service is finally ready to pull the plug, saying telegrams are no longer commercially viable in the age of digital communications. India´s telegram service had been upgraded in recent years — clerks now type up messages on computers

Alaska Lt. Gov. Mead Treadwell (R) announced Tuesday that he will officially challenge Sen. Unionized local employees repeatedly harassed and intimidated non-union workers of a private disaster cleanup firm that won a government contract to restore Long Island, New York, in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. The vice president of the union even made threats against the wife and kids of one of the workers. That worker felt it necessary to call the police and pursue other security measures to protect his family, a source told The Daily Caller News Foundation. A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Likening religious schools to segregation--a racist system that forced blacks to attend different schools and use different facilities than whites in the American South--President Barack Obama told a town hall meeting for youth in Belfast, Northern Ireland on Monday that there should not be Catholic and Protestant schools because such schools cause division. "Because issues like segregated schools and housing, lack of jobs and opportunity--symbols of history that are a source of pride for some and pain for others--these are not tangential to peace; they’re essential to it,"

Listening to Barack Obama give his speech in Belfast on Monday, it was hard not to stifle a yawn. I kept waiting for the part when he would say something interesting, but, about three quarters of the way through, realised it wasn’t going to come. Judging from television pictures some of his young audience felt the same, after the initial rush of euphoria of receiving the rock star president in their midst had passed. This is not surprising, for we had already heard this number about the inspirational role of the Northern Ireland peace process and the Emerald Isle’s

This is the thirtieth anniversary of the publication of How Democracies Perish, an analysis of the spread of world communism by Jean-François Revel, one of freedom´s most serious French defenders since Tocqueville. At the heart of this work, Revel details "The Tools of Communist Expansion," among which the most relevant for understanding our current situation comes in Chapter 16, "Ideological Warfare and Disinformation." The profound simplicity of Revel´s nuts and bolts account of totalitarianism´s Cold War advance, far from being obsolete

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
