| The United States is no longer a beacon of freedom to the world. Countries once looked to America for inspiration on how to escape poverty and embrace prosperity, but now they can find better examples to follow. The Heritage Foundation on Thursday noted our fifth consecutive decline in its annual Index of Economic Freedom. It’s a sad day when countries such as Chile and Mauritius can outdo the red-white-and-blue when it comes to opportunity. U.S. economic policy has broken faith with the Founding Fathers, who preached the value of property rights, sound money and the rule of law.

This editorial only addresses the disastrous economy. The list of the lost of other freedoms is growing longer every day. So how do we fix it? Voting sure has gotten us nowhere. Go get our pitchforks??

Could part of the economic problem be that those that come here to escape poverty and embrace prosperity are sucking the life out of US ?

Compared to other country´s poverty,our poverty is at least middle class by comparison. So even if foreigners are beginning to doubt this country´s ability to prosper,the worst that can happen is ending up in our generous safety net.
What Obama and the left has done is create a viable option to working which is why Obama supporters aren´t complaining about the lack of jobs.
You can probably apply for a student visa and at the same time take out an expensive student loan at taxpayer expense and live it up for a few years at least.Who cares if it´s a low return investment or not,if they can stick around and vote.The level of corruption among these people is beyond comprehension.
Why should simply going to college earn you American citizenship,especially when American taxpayers are paying for your college,in many case as instate tuition?
If these poumpas asses even make it through college,they´re worthless to the current workforce.
To me,loan forgiveness should apply to people learning a trade and getting an actual job from it. Most of the time when I go to a doctor or get a test done,there´s usually some young girl assistants in the room. When I get the chance,I ask them how long they went to school to qualify for the job. Most of the time it´s in the two year range.So they have low student debt on top of getting a real job.
Obama´s massive spending ventures,along with killing the private sector has to be an intentional way of destroying this country´s base of survival.These people are too flaked out to guess what their endgame is.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services says it wants as many as 20 percent of its workers to "telework," use an "alternative work schedule," or do both, in order to "reduce green house gas emissions," decrease "employee stress," and give these government workers more time for "planning and preparing healthy meals." So says one of the HHS "performance measures" detailed in an appendix to the department´s latest strategic plan. HHS´s performance measure "4.D.05" says: "Increase the percent employees on telework or on Alternative Work Schedule." Telework means working from home via phone and computer.

Bloodletting, in the form of firings, dismissals, resignation, and expulsions, is a tribal rite in political Washington. It is most often used by the powerful on anyone less powerful as a symbolic sacrifice. Steven Miller, the now former acting commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service, is the latest victim of ritual sacrifice. This week the Obama White House demanded his resignation to demonstrate the president’s “anger” at news that the IRS targeted conservative groups applying for tax-exempt status for added review and slow approval. Next, we’ll watch as Congress takes up the bloodletting knife.

So allow us to do the work for him: There is no comparison. Nixon, in a series of crimes that collectively came to be known as Watergate, directed from the White House and Justice Department a concerted campaign against those he perceived as political enemies, in the process subverting the FBI, the IRS, other government agencies and the electoral process to his nefarious purposes. The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men.
