Somali Pirate Kingpin Calls
It Quits as Hijackings Plummet

Have we reached — and passed — Peak Pirate? The dread Somali pirate Mohamed Abdi Hassan — also known as “Afweyne,” or “Big Mouth” — is retiring from the hijacking life. Big Mouth has picked a good time to get out of the game: Piracy is way, way down. “After being in piracy for eight years,” Big Mouth told a press conference (!) in Somalia on Thursday, “I have decided to renounce and quit, and from today on I will not be involved in this gang activity.” Hassan played a huge role in the late-2000s

Comments:
I´m sure there are many more of those savages who are available to take his place. They are like leftist radical Democrats and cockroaches. What is pathetic is this problem could have been stopped after the first hijacking by blowing them to smithereens.

The pirates plan to go legit...
by ponying up enough cash to snag a Senate seat in the U.S. Congress.

"Peak Pirate" the writer says.

Notice we do not hear anything about "Peak Oil" anymore... ?
They´ve had to Go Frack Themselves on that subject.

In other words he has stolen enough to be able to kick back and enjoy the loot for the rest of his life.

Afweyne has enough booty now to acquire a seat in the Somali government - if they had one.

The scary thing is that Mohamed Abdi Hassan, by investing a mere $500,000 in US infrastructure, can get a US work permit. Not that he´d work, but he could run for congress as #1 suggests.

He probably wants to spend more time with his family. s/

Are hostages still being held? If he really wants to do the "right thing", than set free any hostages still held.

I remember something about international law forbade merchant ships from being armed.

Then, after enough of this ´´piracy´´, I remember something about pirates being opposed by various navies´ ships and armed crew members on said merchant ships.

Now, piracy is very low.

Seems there is a lesson here about crime and guns...

President Barack Obama and his family are reportedly interested in a Martha´s Vineyard vacation this summer in the Farm Neck area of the island, the Boston Globe reported today on its website. A source told the Cape Cod Times in March that the Obamas have firm plans to return this summer after skipping 2012, an election year. It would be the fourth time the first family has vacationed on the Vineyard. But the big question this year is where the family will stay. The first family spent past Vineyard holidays at the secluded, rented Blue Heron Farm in the

Days before Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan landed in Washington, D.C., for a series of high profile meetings, an influential liberal think tank with ties to the White House released a report that highlighted its cozy relationship with wealthy foreign benefactors from Turkey. The Center for American Progress (CAP) issued a report, “Freedom of the Press and Expression in Turkey,” on May 14 that critics say downplays the Turkish government’s increasingly authoritarian crackdown on press freedoms. CAP did not disclose in the report that it receives money from a Turkish business group named TUSKON.

McCain, Collins Mock GOP
Blockade on Budget Conference

Senate Democrats picked up some GOP reinforcements in their bid to get to a conference on a House-Senate budget agreement. Republican Sens. John McCain of Arizona and Susan Collins of Maine joined Budget Chairwoman Patty Murray, D-Wash., on the floor in support of going to conference without imposing special mandates on conferees. McCain objected to a bid by Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., to require that Senate budget negotiators not provide for an increase in the debt limit. Instead, McCain called for a more established process of offering nonbinding instructions.

Lois Lerner, the director of the IRS division that singled out conservative groups, invoked the Fifth Amendment Wednesday as she refused to testify at the start of a House oversight hearing on her agency´s controversial program. Lerner, before invoking that right, said in a brief opening statement that she had done nothing wrong, even though people might assume that by her decision not to answer questions from the committee. "I have not done anything wrong," she said. "I have not broken any laws. I have not violated any IRS rules or regulations, and I have not

J. Russell George, the inspector general who uncovered the IRS scandal, appears to have at one time dated Michelle Obama, well before she was married to Barack Obama. "All the attention was new, but George has operated in these halls of power his entire career. He worked for Dole, and then in President George H.W. Bush’s White House. In between, he attended Harvard Law School, graduating in 1988 alongside a young Michelle Obama (then Michelle Robinson)," reports National Journal. They weren’t in the same section – the academic groupings that Harvard uses to divide its students –

President Obama isn´t the only one whose fortunes are on the line in the face of a trio of explosive political scandals that are consuming Washington. The Justice Department´s monitoring of reporters, the Internal Revenue Service´s targeting of conservative groups and the White House´s handling of the Sept. 11 Benghazi, Libya, terrorist attack could also haunt Obama´s fellow Democrats, many of whom are already facing headwinds in next year´s midterm elections. With Republicans -- and much of the public -- convinced the controversies will linger into 2014, some Democrats a year and a half ahead

IRS Chain of Command Suggests Scandal
Not Limited to ´Low-Level Employees´
Weekly Standard, by Mark Hemingway    Original Article

After the IRS revealed it had wrongly targeted hundreds of conservative and Tea Party groups, the agency claimed that the misconduct was limited to "low-level employees" in its Cincinnati office. Yesterday, the attorney for Lois Lerner, the head of the IRS’s tax-exempt organizations division, told the House Oversight Committee she would invoke her Fifth Amendment rights, making that explanation much less credible. Now the local Cincinnati Fox affiliate, FOX19, has done some digging and uncovered information suggesting that top officials at the IRS weren´t too far removed from the six low-level employees identified as making unjustified inquiries.

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. Taylor 3rd. Lerner was scheduled to appear before the House Oversight committee Wednesday.

Former Rep. Anthony Weiner, whose career in public life came to an abrupt end when he sent lewd pictures to a college student on Twitter, jumped back into politics on Wednesday by announcing a bid for mayor of New York City. “Look, I’ve made some big mistakes and I know I’ve let a lot of people down,” the Democrat said in a 2-minute video announcing his bid. “But I’ve also learned some tough lessons. I’m running for mayor because I’ve been fighting for the middle class and those struggling to make it for my entire life.

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement

While many Americans were tuned into news coverage of the massive damage from tornadoes ravaging the state of Oklahoma, Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse took to the Senate floor to rail against his Republican colleagues for denying the theory of anthropogenic global warming. Whitehouse spent 15 minutes chastising GOP senators and justified his remarks by alluding to states that seek federal assistance in the wake of natural disasters. “So, you may have a question for me,” Whitehouse said. “Why do you care?
