While I can truly appreciate the losing position Lincoln was in, I am unwilling to lionize the man as he has been throughout history and in public education.

The man was deeply flawed (as we all were) but also responsible for a very unconstitutional war and the subsequent perversion of the truth that followed it.

His actions against the South had zero to do with civil liberties or slavery and more to do with tax revenue and Federal control over the states...they were tyrannical, to put it mildly.

Question to those brainwashed who believe the civil war was about slavery (Lincolns own writings oppose this position): Why was the US the only country to get rid of slavery through civil war? Most ther countries managed to avoid it....

It is absolutely false revisionist history to claim that the Civil War was not about slavery. Lincoln´s own writings and speeches as a whole - not one or two sentences taken out of context - make this clear. As do most reputable Lincoln scholars - Harold Holzer, Jack Davis, Frank Williams, John Marszalek, Craig Symonds, etc. etc.

The civil war was about states rights and the right to succession. The war wasn´t about slavery until the end to change public opinion.
