| Vice President Joe Biden on Thursday compared restrictions on guns to auto safety regulations such as air bags, by saying neither the gun nor the auto industries wanted regulations to save lives. “Well they didn’t want to have air bags. Well, guess what? We have air bags. We’re saving lives,” Biden told reporters before a meeting with several stakeholders on the gun-control issue, as he plans to craft a set of proposals for President Barack Obama by Tuesday, Jan. 15. The proposals are expected to include a renewed ban on so-called assault weapons, and beefed-up background checks.

We didn’t want the government to spend more money than they took in. Well, guess what? They did spend more. We’re going broke!

It is truly frightening that someone as embicillic as Joe Biden is considered worthy of promulgating proposals that deal with the rights of free men/women. That he is on the street is proof of a need to reexamine this nation´s mental health failures.

Did you even read the article? Biden is correct. The government should be able to get statistics on whether criminals got their guns legally or illegally and on what types of weapons are most often used in crimes. Questions like this are not taking guns out of the hands of law-abiding owners.
It is the refusal to engage in a dialogue on the issues that is most likely to cause gun owners to lose legitimate rights. I don´t want to see rights lost...but I hate it when I see gun owners refuse to even discuss options other than shouting, "No".

I´m listening to Mark Levin right now. He is pointing out how Government has killed millions and millions of people. They justify their actions by claiming they are "helping". Banning DDT has killed millions..there is no justification in banning DDT.. CAFE standards call for smaller, lighter cars and this has killed 46,000 people. Banning guns will lead to millions of deaths, if We the People allow it.

Most of the statistics #4 mentioned are already available to the government. Why don´t they just check Chicago´s figures? They know how many crimes are committed with illegal guns. That´s what over 20,000 gun laws were supposed to cure. How well has that worked out?

There are some good points made in the comments after this article.
I like the observation that cars now need airbags in part due to the CAFE standards imposed by the government. Also that the right to bear arms is not comparable to the right to have an airbag in your car. And as to the government compiling stats on guns used in crimes, who trusts them to do this after F&F?

The irrational gun control zealots ignore the lives saved by guns, appropriately called the, ´equalizers,´ in self-defense from predators. Pres. Reagan´s principle of, ´´Peace through Strength,´´ actually works, which is why Colt named his Single Action Army revolver, ´´The Peacemaker.´´ This principle applies to self-defense by individuals under attack by aggressors as well as countries under attack by barbarians.

The main reason for the rise in shootings in America is the growth of the underground economy and the gangs who are it´s enforcers. The main reason why there are school shootings is the phenominon of copy cat murders, which is fueled by all the attention that the press flaunts of such tragic events. The more our politicians make headlines on these murders, the more likely there will be copy cats.

FTA: Vice-President Biden asks, “How many weapons used are trafficked weapons? Are weapons used in gang warfare in our major cities -- are they legally purchased or are they purchased through straw men?"
You should answer your own questions re Operation Fast and Furious, Mr. Biden.
Vice-President Biden is the quintessential ´air-bag´ in this fight and why anyone would believe that they could have a serious meeting with him is mystifying, at best. It makes me sick that the Democrats/Progressives/Liberals are politically dancing on the graves of those precious departed children. Their faux concern is disgusting. Shame on all of them.
Lastly, Vice-President Biden and his family are protected by fully armed Secret Service contingents 24 hours a day, every day. That (along with his hippy-dippy mental state) should disqualify him (and all of his Administration, government, and media colleagues) from promoting his end goal of seizing the legal firearms of the American people. He´s a hypocrite - they all are - every last one of them.

What they are afraid to calculate is the number of lives saved by an armed citizenry. They suppress, with a willing media, any mention of an armed citizen, even an off-duty officer, interrupting a robbery, a kidnapping, or general mayhem. They know this defeats their argument so they suppress any good news about an armed citizen.

In 2007, then Senator Barack Obama appeared on CNN´s Larry King Live and called on U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales to resign. Obama said Gonzales was acting more like the president´s attorney than the people´s attorney and viewed himself as an "enabler of the administration." "Well, I voted against Alberto Gonzales confirmation for precisely the reason we are seeing now. I said this on the floor of the senate, that although he seemed to be a capable attorney, he seemed to conceive his role as being the president´s attorney instead of being the people´s attorney," Obama said.

MARK LEVIN: So why didn´t Chairman Issa hold an investigative hearing a year ago? Why didn´t Chairman Camp, all Republicans, hold an investigative hearing a year ago, and all the other tripping over themselves right now? I´ll tell you why. Because the establishment Republicans, the RINO Republicans, despise the Tea Party. They despise the conservative movement. We exist to be managed, to be shuttled to the polling place, to vote for their candidates. The Karl Roves of the world, and all the rest of them. They fight us in the primaries, they fight us at the grassroots.

The way to prevent abortionists like convicted murderer Kermit Gosnell from occurring again is to build more Planned Parenthood clinics, Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) said at a House Judiciary Subcommittee hearing on Thursday about legislation that would prevent abortion after 20 weeks nationwide. “I would urge my colleagues to think about the extent to which he, Dr. Gosnell, represented the poor quality of health care services available in poorer communities,” Nadler said at the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice hearing. “We should be working to make sure that high quality

House Speaker John A. Boehner on Thursday flatly ruled out chances of the House passing the Senate’s immigration bill, saying his chamber will debate its own bill instead. The Ohio Republican and his top lieutenants in the party issued a joint statement that seemed designed to tamp down some of the momentum behind the Senate bill, which emerged from a committee on a bipartisan 13-5 vote this week, and to stake out a House GOP position. “While we applaud the progress made by our Senate colleagues, there are numerous ways in which

During friendly questioning from Rep. Hank “I fear that Guam will capsize!” Johnson in Congress last week, Attorney General Eric Holder offered the following statement. In regard to potential prosecution of the press for the disclosure of material. This is not something I’ve ever been involved in, heard of, or would think would be wise policy. He made that statement before the facts about the sweep on Fox News’ James Rosen were known. Since then, it’s come to light that Holder himself approved the subpoena that, among other things, named Rosen as a criminal co-conspirator.

As the saying goes, scratch a liberal and you’ll find a tyrant underneath. NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo is but the latest example. He shoved a very restrictive and ill-considered gun law through the state legislature in the dead of night. Among its flaws, the law criminalized police officers who tote firearms with magazines that hold more than seven rounds. Sheriffs around the state have objected to the law. Cuomo summoned them to the state capitol under what appears to be a false pretext, and used the meeting to threaten them into silence. Cuomo invited

The National Council of La Raza (translation: The Race) has partnered with the Office of Personnel Management to encourage Hispanic activists and members to burrow into the federal government. A workshop sponsored by La Raza/The Race will take place in New Orleans on July 23, 2013. Senior Executive Service (SES) employees are federal government employees in special executive management positions, often with salaries approaching $200,000 per year (and well past that with benefits). OPM, a federal government agency, is cooperating and partnering

When you get right down to it, the political targeting and stalling of tax-exempt applications by the IRS was an effort to defund the Tea Party. Rick Santelli, one of the Tea Party founders and my CNBC colleague, was the first to make this point. I’ve taken it a step further: The IRS was taking the Tea Party out of play for the 2012 election, as it looked to avoid a repeat of 2010 and another Tea Party landslide. There are a lot of numbers out there.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. According to its website, the facility provides “3-day outpatient psychiatric evaluation,” particularly to “professionals who are in personal or professional crises.” While Weiner did not disclose

On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.
