after Sandy Hook shooting

The National Rifle Association has gained more than 100,000 new members in the last 18 days, the organization told POLITICO’s Playbook on Thursday. The number of paid new members jumped from 4.1 million to 4.2 million in that time frame. (Snip) “We are willing to talk to policymakers about any reasonable proposals and plans,” an NRA official said in the Playbook report, regarding the upcoming meeting with Biden. “However, the NRA is hearing not just from Beltway elites and the chattering class, but real Americans all over the country that are hoping the NRA is not going to compromise

I have a reasonable proposal:

Treat the right to bear arms the same way as the right to vote.

License voters
Giver voters psychological tests

Two more as of today. I had let my membership lapse a few years ago, so renewed and my husband joined for the first time.

" “We are willing to talk to policymakers about any reasonable proposals and plans,”

as Julia Roberts said in ´Pretty Woman´:

´Big Mistake.....HUGE´

You don´t understand. There are NO ´reasonable proposals´ with the opposition.

Renewed my NRA membership last month, just recently joined the New York State Rifle & Pisol (NYSRPA) the other day, and provided a significant donation in addition to both.

A number of Second Amendment and firearm specific forums have been encouraging their members to join the NYSRPA - even if they do not live in NY, simply because this place is the front lines in the assault on our liberty and our Constitutionally protected rights.

I would strongly encourage anyone who believes in what our Founders established and sought to preserve 238 years ago to join the NRA (if they haven´t already) and to join the NYSRPA.

I know we have the fight of our lives on our hands here in New york State, but I am awe-struck at the number of people in "free-states" who have joined the NYSRPA over the past 48 hours to help us in our fight. Your support is needed and appreciated.

I have a reasonable proposal. The mass murders are seeking their 15 minutes of fame. The news media obliges with their 24/7 coverage, usually reporting misinformation, such identifying the wrong person after doing a google search. So, I have some commonsense proposals.

1. A cooling off period for the news-media. They have to wait 72 hours before reporting on a mass murder. This will allow sufficient time to gather actual facts.

2. A ban on high volume mass murder reporting. Each media outlet should be limited to one story per incident per month. No media outlet needs to generate 100s of inaccurate news reports each day about mass murders.

3. All journalist reporting on mass murders must take test to receive a license. The test would require the reporter to show a basic understanding about firearms, close quarter combat and show knowledge of ALL federal, state and local firearms laws and regulations. This is to guarantee accuracy in their news reports.

W C Fields once said it was a woman who drove him to drink. He then said he wished he could find her so he could thank her.

Bill Clinton forced me to take a life membership in the NRA when he was doing something stupid with gun laws. I want to personally thank him for that. Only good thing he ever did. I´m so proud he is "Father of the Year".

What is more dumb, Nobel Peace prizes or awards like that?

Mark Krikorian is tapping the earpiece of his glasses — into the center of his right eye. (Snip) In Krikorian’s world view, there is good immigration — the kind that happened long ago. And there is bad immigration — the kind that happens now. There are immigrants who melt into a place and let it melt into them, and there are immigrants who inhabit a place without allowing it to inhabit them. “America has outgrown mass immigration,” he says. Krikorian doesn’t control any votes in the immigration fight that is consuming Congress,

A report released on Tuesday by the National Council on Teacher Quality finds that U.S. teacher training is “an industry of mediocrity” that produces teachers without a clue. “The results were dismal,” said Kate Walsh, president of the bipartisan research group. Walsh told Reuters that new teachers "don´t know how to teach reading, don´t know how to master a classroom, don´t know how to use data." (Snip) Several colleges attempted to thwart the study. Some even tried to block the Council from obtaining data about their teacher training programs.

Thanks to a John Podhoretz tweet (by the way, if you don’t follow him, you should. His Twitter feed is constantly engaging and insightful), I came across a horrifying, sad article by blogger and career advice columnist Penelope Trunk. It chronicles her two abortions — her first when she was in the midst of a professional volleyball career (it was relatively late-term) and the second when her post-volleyball career was “soaring.” Before the first abortion, she learned she was pregnant relatively late — 14 weeks in.

He didn´t think he would give a speech. For quite some time, Roy Costner IV was second among his classmates, and didn´t realize an extra class raised his grade point average enough for him to be the valedictorian of Liberty High School´s Class of 2013. But when the honor was bestowed on him, and he was asked to give the traditional valedictory speech, Costner didn´t want to waste this opportunity to acknowledge the most important influence in his life: his Christian faith.

During his radio show on Friday, Rush Limbaugh told his listeners, “I think abortion is at the root of so much that has and is going wrong in this country.” The conservative host went on to discuss that the reason why amnesty is essential to the liberal agenda is because abortion has, since Roe v. Wade in 1973, wiped out millions of potential taxpayers. The Democrat Party, Limbaugh said, has turned to amnesty as a means to ensure a “permanent underclass” in order to continue its image as the party of big government entitlements.

Assemblywoman Susan Bonilla, D-Calif., believes that if her Assembly Bill 926 passes, researchers will be able to pay egg donors as they develop medical advances that can help all women. To her, the bill is an issue of simple fairness -- gender equity, really. (Snip) The New York Times reports, "Egg donors can suffer serious side effects from the powerful hormones needed to generate multiple eggs." And: "The most significant risk is ovarian hyper-stimulation syndrome, which can cause bloating, abdominal pain and, rarely, blood clots, kidney failure and other life-threatening ailments."

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.

It is understood that a contingency plan is in place for the unlikely event that an attempt would be made on the President’s life. The Secret Service also have diplomatic immunity which will allow them to shoot to kill a would-be assassin without fear of prosecution. As part of the “evacuation route” plan, they would be able to spirit the President by chopper to one of the carriers where a jet is on standby to take him back to the United States.

The Obamas never miss an opportunity to mingle with the stars and during a two-day trip in Dublin, who better to have lunch with than iconic Irish rocker and philanthropist Bono? First Lady Michelle along with daughters Malia, 14, and Sasha, 11, started Tuesday with an hour-long visit to picturesque Glendalough in the Wicklow Mountains--but the two girls looked like they would have rather slept in at their luxury hotel. Glendalough is famous for its Medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century by St Kevin, the hermit priest.
