| The brewing controversy as to which nation, if any, pro golfer Rory McIlroy will represent at the 2016 Olympic games in Rio de Janeiro continues to grow. Now Irish golfer Padraig Harrington has expressed his sympathy for McIlroy’s tough decision. "No sportsman should have to make that decision and no one at 23 years of age should have to make that decision,” said Padraig Harrington to The Irish Examiner regarding what choice McIlroy will have to make. As a citizen of Northern Ireland, McIlroy is torn between representing either Great Britain or Ireland in the forthcoming Olympic games.

He lives in Northern Ireland, so play for Ireland. Unless he´s Orange and a great fan of the brits, what´s the problem?

Rory´s Catholic, but apolitical. He´ll probably wind up playing for the UK.

He´s a legal resident of Northern Ireland so he plays for team GB. If he wants to play for Ireland, move to Ireland. There, problem solved.

Reminds me of Zola Baird. Poor little kid - - thrown into the apartheid controversy when she hardly knew what it was.
She had to move to England in order to run (barefoot) in the Olympics. Then she crashed into Little Mary Decker - - and things got even worse!
I wonder where Zola is nowadays.

There must be a lot more to this other than citizenship and residence. Otherwise he´d represent Northern Ireland.

First, I´d like to see him call out the Brit´s on them maintaining the last open slave colony on the planet.
What else do you call the Protestant subjugation of the Irish?

The Protestants in Ulster ARE Irish.
I don´t think having a different religion changes your nationality.

Maureen O´Hara went through a similar controversy. When she was to sign her U.S. citizenship papers, she discovered that she was listed as a British citizen. She had always considered herself a citizen of Ireland (which she was), and refused to sign the papers until a change was made.

Why is golf an olympic sport? You can drink, smoke, eat, while participating, wearing long pants. Olympic sport? I think not.

Intervene how? To be in the Olympics, you´ve got to be on a national team - no individuals. Got to make the call Rory.

#8, I was there. Very simply put, if you were behind a broom = Catholic. Behind a desk = Protestant. Sorry, but the utter contempt that the NIreland BRITS(and to a person, not ONE of them considered themselves Irish) treat the Irish is beneath any civilized people.

The guy’s’ put the estate he never vists in Moneyreagh, Northern Ireland on the market for $3mil, bought one for $11mil in Palm Beach next door Jacks golf course and down the road from Tiger’s home...joined Tiger at Nike with a $250million deal...got a tall blond whose first language isn’t English like you know who...just announced his new charity but it is registered with the regulator for charities in England and Wales.
Might as well make it offical and apply for citizenship and play for the US!
By the way, thought The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland consisted of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Whatever else happens as a result of the multiple controversies that have engulfed the administration, one thing is clear: President Obama has failed to meet one of the most important goals he set out when he was first elected, which was to demonstrate that activist government could also be smart government. (Snip) As he put it then: “I think what you saw in this election was people saying, ‘Yes, we don’t want some big, bureaucratic, ever-expanding state. On the other hand, we don’t want a state that’s dysfunctional, that doesn’t believe in its mission, that can’t carry out

Washington – Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-MO, issued a video statement Friday in response to reports that the Internal Revenue Service unfairly targeted conservative nonprofit groups. (Snip) “There’s a reason Lady Justice wears a blindfold in America. That is because in America, we don’t apply the law based on who you are, who you know, or what you believe. We apply the law equally.” “We should not only fire the head of the IRS, which has occurred, but we’ve got to go down the line and find every single person who had anything to do with this and make sure

Richmond, Va.—Virginia´s activist conservative attorney general has won the Republican Party´s gubernatorial nomination by acclamation. At the GOP´s statewide convention, thousands of conservatives and tea party followers who dominated the Richmond Coliseum on Saturday roared their unanimous support for Ken Cuccinelli. He was unopposed for the nomination and is generally beloved by the tea party for his aggressive challenges to federal mandates. Cuccinelli is an abortion foe who was the first state attorney general to challenge President Barack Obama´s health care reforms in 2010. He faces former Democratic National Committee chairman and Clinton family protege Terry McAuliffe

Legions of Wimbledon fans may find it hard to credit in the man who once defined bad behaviour on the tennis court, but Jimmy Connors says he ‘turned on the charm’ the first time he chatted up Chris Evert.(Snip)Although she has since bitterly regretted giving up on a ‘good, solid marriage’, what some have described as her mid-life crisis struck in 2006 when she divorced Mill after 18 years. The Evert pendulum had swung back again towards an assertive Alpha Male: she had fallen in love with Australian world golfing champion Greg Norman. He was Mill’s best friend

The House voted to repeal ObamaCare on Thursday for the third time since Republicans took over the chamber in 2011. Only two Democrats sided with Republicans in the party-line 229-195 vote — Jim Matheson (Utah) and Mike McIntyre (N.C.). All Republicans voted in favor of repeal. This is the 37th time the House GOP has voted to repeal or defund at least part of the bill, but this latest bill will also not become law given Democrats´ control of the Senate. Still, many House Republicans had clamored for the bill from Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) to be considered,

Back in March, The Wall Street Journal’s Damian Paletta profiled Daniel Werfel — then the controller for the White House budget office, and today the newly named acting commissioner of the IRS — focusing on his role in instructing the government how to deal with the sequester’s $85 billion in budget cuts. Here are some highlights from the profile: Known in the White House as “Danny,” Mr. Werfel graduated from Cornell University, earned a master’s degree in public policy from Duke University and a law degree from the University of North Carolina. One of President Barack Obama´s re-election campaign co-chairmen used a leaked document from the IRS to attack GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney during the 2012 election, according to the National Organization for Marriage (NOM).(Snip)NOM discovered that when HRC published its confidential financial documents, it failed to conceal the source of the documents. “After software removed the layers obscuring the document, it is shown that the document came from the Internal Revenue Service,” NOM asserted in its April 2012 release. “The top of each page says, ‘THIS IS A COPY OF A LIVE RETURN FROM SMIPS. What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

PRESIDENT OBAMA: You are the mantle of Frederick Douglass and Booker T. WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

"Can you see in your mind´s eye a way that this might not have been political, that this was a misguided stupid way to sort, but that they didn´t intend it to be some kind of political attempt to harass the Tea Party?" So actually asked CNN´s Candy Crowley of her guest Sen. There will be lots more hearings coming up this week

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement
