| Chuck Hagel probably never thought he’d have to win a popularity contest in the Senate. Maybe that’s why he wasn’t terribly careful about whom he confronted or whom he offended. He popped off on the “Jewish lobby” and a gay Clinton nominee. His fellow Republicans will never forget the relish with which he lectured them on the flaws of the Iraq War — after he voted to authorize it.Policy aside, Hagel’s bedeviled by his own abrasive personality. In a chamber known for back-patting and elbow-rubbing, the former Nebraska senator mostly rubbed people the wrong way.

Some senators will act tough during questioning but Hagel will be confirmed.

Cabinet positions just need a simple majority to be confirmed by the Senate .
Democrats control the Senate 55-45.
Unless some Dems bolt, it´s a done deal.

Remember that Reid is going to institute the nuclear option of changing the cloture vote requirement, currently 60, to a likely 51.

I really look forward to Hagel´s confirmation hearings too. He is such an oddball. Let´s see if someone can get his feathers ruffled enough to lose his temper. In the end, the GOP Senators will talk tough and then vote for him.

Havel can not manage people. His documented treatment of his staff members is inexcusable. The people at the state dept. will be in open rebellion within 6 months. And they are on his side.

Los Angeles County coroner´s officials said Wednesday the body recovered from a fiery, single-car crash in Hollywood that apparently killed journalist Michael Hastings will likely undergo an autopsy Thursday. But an official cause of death and closure of the case is not likely for four to six weeks or perhaps longer, they said. Coroner´s officials are hoping the results will answer why the accident happened. Officials were attempting to match dental records to help make a positive identification. The Obama administration has reportedly tried to enlist the NBA in helping it sell Obamacare to the American people. It’s unclear whether a potential marketing partnership would put big-name players at the center of ad campaigns or if it would be as simple as putting the NBA trademark on marketing materials, Politico first reported today. People can begin signing up for Obamacare in October, with the new insurance coverage kicking in next year. Many have speculated that the enrollment campaigns would benefit from a celebrity endorsement or partnership with a major sports league.

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
