Tavis Smiley bringing in
big political names to
tackle poverty

Washington Examiner, by Nikki Schwab

PBS host Tavis Smiley has a very to-the-point answer when asked if the topic of poverty got enough play during the 2012 campaign. "No," he said bluntly, but with a laugh during an interview with Yeas & Nays Tuesday. "As a result the work intensifies," he continued. A year ago, Smiley moderated a panel discussion at George Washington University to take on the matter. A year later he´s doing it again, hoping to bring together a bipartisan dream team of sorts to finally get something done. On the left, Smiley´s recruited Congressional Black Caucus chairwoman Marcia Fudge, D-Ohio,

Comments:
I´m sure this will be as successful as the "war on poverty." s/o The elephants in the room, the Democrats and the terrorist 0bama, most likely will never be mentioned. I´m surprised Newt Gingrich is getting involved with this. It is doubtful they would listen to anything constructive he has to offer.

As Ms. Ann Coulter has observed:"The most painful thing in the world for a liberal is to be forced to let a conservative speak."
Newt is an oratorical MONSTER when he is on his game. Smiley is a typical narrow-minded "Liberal" racist. This could be fun.

No need to dance around it-Smiley is an intellectual lightweight with a one-track mind. That track leads and has always lead to, reparations.

OK, Tavis. Great idea. Instead of having your panel discussion at GW how about having it in Detroit? Newt has suggested that location in the past for conversations like this. How about now?

Tavis Smiley has gotten further on zero talent than anyone since Ed Sullivan.

I know. Let´s declare a "War on Poverty" and spend a lot of money. That should work. The problem is that we just never spend enough money. If we only had larger government and spent more money - everything would be OK.

At least Ed brought you entertainment and didn´t ask for your tax dollars...

We´ve tried it the modern way over the past 40+ years. Pouring money down the black hole so they can watch daytime TV, get their nails done and go shopping. I suggest we go back to giving them 40 acres and a mule and make them do a little work. They wouldn´t have time to make so many little babies. How many more trillion$ does Mr. Travis think they need? I spit in his general direction.

Travis (I know it´s Tavis but I like to call him Travis) - Black children who are raised by a married couple have a very similar rate of poverty as white children who are raised by a married couple - a few percent.

So the solution is simple - don´t have a child if you are young, single, and are unable to support yourself. And sadly, we have THE guy in the White House who could address this issue; haven´t heard a peep.

I guess the problem is if no children out of wedlock ever became the mantra, the poverty pimps would be out of business.

After IRS, Benghazi scandals,
public trust shifts to GOP
Washington Examiner, by Paul Bedard    Original Article

The Democratic Party´s edge over the GOP on who the public trusts more on ethics and corruption issues has flipped in the wake of the IRS and Benghazi scandals, according to Rasmussen Reports. Not only do voters trust Republicans more now, they have their highest level of confidence in the GOP and the lowest level in Democrats in seven months. While the Democrats had an eight-point "trust advantage" over Republicans a month ago, Rasmussen´s latest poll said that edge has disappeared and now the GOP has a two-point advantage. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew told the Senate Banking Committee Tuesday the IRS has to be "beyond politics," and he warned that the "cure could be worse than the disease" if that line is crossed in the attempt to fix the agency´s problems. "The thing I will not do -- I will not cross that line into the administration of the tax system, because the cure could be worse than the disease. We need to make sure there´s no political involvement in the administration of the tax system," Lew said. And while the treasury secretary is responsible for

Danger. Danger. Al Qaeda’s Syrian wing also known as “rebels” bent on overthrowing Syria’s President Bashar al-Assad (mirroring the Saudi, the Obama administration and Republican Senator John McCain’s position), have taken over the oilfields that once belonged to Assad. If that wasn’t bad enough it gets worse. We are a hair trigger away from World War III. Reportedly Assad is preparing missile strikes against Tel Aviv if Syria is attacked again. Meanwhile, back in Obama’s America, don’t call Libya’s weapon recovery program “buyback” that then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton funded using $40 million of your tax dollars

The current scene doesn´t look so great. We´ve got the Benghazi scandal, which Bob Woodward has compared to Watergate, we´ve got the IRS scandal, where Democratic members of Congress are saying the IRS director lied, we´ve got the FBI AP-snooping scandal, we´ve got the HHS "private donation" shakedown scandal, and, of course, there´s the still-unfolding Pigford scandal that has funneled billions to grifters. It seems like everything is in tatters. And, in a way, it is. But serious as these problems are, they´re all short-term things. So while at the moment a lot of our political leaders

Former Democratic National committee chairman Howard Dean considers the controversy over Benghazi a “joke” and “silly.” “Benghazi is a laughable joke,” Dean proclaimed twice in a discussion with Republican National Committee communications chairman Sean Spicer last week. “With all due respect, governor, when four Americans die serving this country, that’s not a joke, sir,” Spicer responded. “Oh, stop it,” said Dean. The former Democratic presidential candidate also said that there were “no serious questions being asked about Benghazi” and brushed it off as an effort by Republicans to score political points.

IRS Scandal: Outgoing Chief
Says Planted Question His Idea

In Tuesday´s Senate hearings into the ever-widening IRS scandal, outgoing IRS chief, Steve Miller, acknowledged that the planted question that broke the story last week was his idea. The "planted question" refers to the way in which the IRS chose to release the findings of the Inspector General´s report a week ago Friday. It was an unusual way to deliver bad news, even in a town known for its selective leaks, Friday-night news dumps and wag-the-dog distractions. The Internal Revenue Service, apparently determined to get out ahead of an inspector general report critical of its handling of tax exemptions

Cybercrime breaches $1 trillion

Cybercrime and efforts to thwart computer attacks have finally crossed the $1 trillion a year line and Chinese sources are to blame for 89 percent of the high-tech assaults, according to a leading computer security executive and the National Security Administration. The wave of attacks has surged in the past three years to such a level, however, that efforts to defend and fight back haven´t kept up, prompting officials to call for international treaties to cover cyberspace, sanctions on countries that attack U.S. databases and even computer revenge. According to David DeWalt, chairman of the computer

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement

While many Americans were tuned into news coverage of the massive damage from tornadoes ravaging the state of Oklahoma, Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse took to the Senate floor to rail against his Republican colleagues for denying the theory of anthropogenic global warming. Whitehouse spent 15 minutes chastising GOP senators and justified his remarks by alluding to states that seek federal assistance in the wake of natural disasters. “So, you may have a question for me,” Whitehouse said. “Why do you care?
