| Maybe you too thought with that fiscal cliff band-aid we were done with serious problems for a while. Nope. You may have heard about the Iowa dental assistant, Melissa Nelson? Poor thing. Her employer of 10 years, Dr. James Knight, fired the 32-year-old woman for being "irresistible." And the other day all seven men on the Iowa Supreme Court ruled that, why yes, having seen the plaintiff, that seems like a reasonable decision by their fellow male. Especially given that Mrs. Knight, the dentist´s wife who gives away about 20 years to the married assistant, had demanded that

I think it was a fine decision for a crummy situation. What other course of action could the dentist have taken? He could either fire the assistant, close his business (same loss of job from the assistant´s perspective) or dared his wife to follow through on her divorce threats. His wife may have been irrational, but in my experience that doesn´t matter very much. At the very least it was worth a shot to save the marriage and the business. Maybe he feels his vows are worth something.

"His vows are worth something"? I don´t remember seeing anything about this in the marriage vows.
This woman had worked for the dentist for 10 years. Had all of this been going on for the whole 10 years, or did his wife just meet his dental assistant? Or is his wife feeling her 50some years?
If the woman was "irresistible", it means the dentist went further than looking at her. He was unable to resist her. How come? Isn´t that HIS weakness?
This is bad law, a bad precedent to set.

I´m a free-market sort of guy. An employer should be able to hire or fire anyone they want for any reason they want. If they make stupid decisions, then they will pay for them over the long-term. But we have the right to be stupid in this country.
I have no problem with him firing her. But a dentist should have been smarter than to tell the truth as to why he fired her. With all the insane laws on the books these days, he was asking for trouble. All he had to do was say that he was ´´downsizing´´, write her a good letter of recomendation, give her a little severance payoff, and not fight her unemployment claim.
With all the stupid socialists laws on this books in this country, the truth is often not your friend...

New York - Police say a gunman used anti-gay slurs before fatally shooting a 32-year-old man in New York City´s Greenwich (GREN´-ich) Village. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.
