The Education of John Boehner
Wall Street Journal, by Stephen Moore

Original Article

What stunned House Speaker John Boehner more than anything else during his prolonged closed-door budget negotiations with Barack Obama was this revelation: "At one point several weeks ago," Mr. Boehner says, "the president said to me, ´We don´t have a spending problem.´ " I am talking to Mr. Boehner in his office on the second floor of the Capitol, 72 hours after the historic House vote to take America off the so-called fiscal cliff by making permanent the Bush tax cuts on most Americans, but also to raise taxes on high earners.

Comments:
Through Alice´s looking glass, we´ve landed in another universe where our president has no idea what makes the country run and doesn´t care.

It should not come as a surprise that the choice of a low information populace is a low information president.

Don´t usually post before reading an article but I had to here.

If I read the word "historic" one more time I am going to go completely off my rocker. The fiscal cliff vote was historic only in the sense that it happened last week. I ate dinner at a Chinese restaurant last night, thats in the past too should I use the word historic to describe that meal?

Every action is not earth shattering or history altering, the term historic can only be added to an event decades after the fact when the events true impact on history is known.

Nixons opening of China, and his resignation are historic. His losing the election in 1960 or winning in 1968 are simply pedestrian facts.

the only thing this congress or administration has done that will rise to historic levels (in my opinion) is their complete loss of spending control. That "historic" accomplishment is going to haunt every decision of every congress for the next two generations, if not longer.

After reading this, Im willing to cut Boehner some slack. I knew Obama was an idealoge socialist, but I didnt realize that he was "this" delusional.

The media and Obama campaign perpertrated a fraud on the US electorate in 08, they double downed on the fraud in 2012. Unless and until the republican leadership get out in front of the voters, the dems will pull of another fraud in 2014 and 2016.

For John Boehner to be surprised at this makes me question his preparation and intelligence. If he doesn´t understand the person he is negotiating with, he is not likely to be successful. Think that President Obama´s writings, statements, and actions have been rather clear. I can´t understand why these comments by him would be a surprise.

Boehner is a boob. What every conservative knew from the beginning of the Keynon´s "historic" election, Boehner is only finding out after 4 years of "historic" deficits.

Boehner is a Washington elite and a very weak leader.

Now having read the article I too can see Boehner in a more favorable (if dim) light. We all knew Obama was an ideologue and we all knew he was naieve. What has caught all of us, and Boehner, off guard is the fact that he is also delusional. Delusional is the way only a child can be, or a narcisistic sociopath.

Governance has always been about compromise, and that is what every politician expects. Political hardball is just good business.

Obama only played at politician, he campaigns like one and he puts on a pretty good show for cameras and handpicked audiences but he did not train in politics, he trained as a :community organizer".

In that school there is a take no prisoners attitude where you never compromise, never bargain in good faith, never consider the other partys well being. If your winning means your opponents children are thrown into the street thats just gravy. Except now his opponents are us, the citizens of the United States regardless of political association.

Obama lives in a fantasy bubble, one where there really are no consequences for his actions and the very real people he hurts are only a shadowy and evil "Them". Such a pathetic figure in such a powerful position is a national shame.

Boehner is used to politicians wearing a mask, his mistake was believing that Obama was a politician.

This is a good article and ought to be required reading for keyboard warriors those who think dealing with a highly ideological and newly re-elected president ought to be some sort of picnic.

The stark reality is that Obama is a dope, plain and simple. Everything attributed to him by the MSM has been produced by his legions of czars, communist, socialist and even criminal stooges. He merely guesses at where to "X" on the executive orders and dashes to the golf course or another 25 million dollar vacation. He is the perfect mirror of most of the American electorate.

Too bad they reelected one that isn´t again.

Actually there is both a spending problem and a revenue problem. At 16% of GDP, revenue is well below the postwar average of 19%. And spending at 25% is outtasight.

Mr. Boehner, The president can´t spend a dime without your say-so. Also, we absolutely do not have to increase the debt limit to pay our debt obligations.

#31, your comparing Apples to Oranges - or better yet falling for the DC mindtrap/brainwash. Are wages, salaries and family wealth at same levels also?

The dirty secret is that these bass turds only count for revenue the tax receipts from we the people. They DO NOT account for the trillions in annual revenue or wealth created from stock market investments, global currency investments, land-leases, building leases, miniral rights, parking tools, fees, penalties, on and on.

I´ve seen estimates that the ´public´ sector from DC on down to your local School Board owns 85% of the DOW and NASDAQ....

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. The bushy-tailed visitor

Shortly after the Supreme Court’s decision on Obamacare, the CBO projected that 9 million people would buy Obamacare-compliant insurance through newly established government-run exchanges. Now, after an enrollment period that his administration expanded by about two months—to more than half a year—President Obama says that 8 million people have “signed up” for (but in many cases haven’t actually bought) insurance through those exchanges. The Obama administration’s stated goal was to have 39 percent of those who bought such insurance be between the ages of 18 and 34. Now Obama says the actual percentage is 28 percent. Only in Washington, D.C. could someone

Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?

House Democrats, battered by Koch brothers ads and facing a grim outlook for the midterms, are providing the clearest indication yet of how they plan to respond: By shoring up imperiled incumbents and only the most promising challengers, but most likely leaving some of the party’s upstart hopefuls to fend for themselves. The strategy, detailed in nearly two dozen interviews with party officials and strategists, is a tacit acknowledgement of the ominous political environment Democrats are up against this year. The goal is to stop Republicans from padding their 17-seat edge and keep the party within striking distance of the majority

Washington – The National Republican Senatorial Committee, a group tasked with getting Republicans elected to the Senate, believes Republicans have expanded the 2014 playing field with five more contested races as the GOP seeks to retake control of the chamber. In a memo released to consultants Friday morning, NRSC political director Ward Baker writes that Republicans have become competitive in Colorado, New Hampshire, Virginia, Oregon and Minnesota since the start of the year. That´s in addition to nearly 10 Senate seats the NRSC has been aggressively targeting.

The captain of a South Korean ferry that sank off the southwest coast of South Korea this week with hundreds of high school students aboard was arrested early Saturday along with two crewmembers, the Yonhap news agency reports. The captain, 68-year-old Lee Joon-seok, was jailed on five counts of charges including negligence of duty and violation of maritime law, Yonhap reports. The exact charges filed against the two crewmembers, who were allegedly operating the ship alone at the time of the accident, were not immediately available. Prosecutors, in seeking an arrest warrant on Friday, alleged that Lee had left the vessel in charge

It is a bit bigger and somewhat colder, but a planet circling a star 500 light-years away is otherwise the closest match of our home world discovered so far, astronomers announced on Thursday. The planet, known as Kepler 186f, named after NASA’s Kepler planet-finding mission, which detected it, has a diameter of 8,700 miles, 10 percent wider than Earth, and its orbit lies within the “Goldilocks zone” of its star, Kepler 186 — not too hot, not too cold, where temperatures could allow for liquid water to flow at the surface, making it potentially hospitable for life. “Kepler 186f is

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. And the information we’ve uncovered – information that would otherwise remain under lock and key – shows that the

Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship."
