What Rules?

Diva Diana Ross threw a supreme hissy fit at restaurant La Scala in Beverly Hills after she was not allowed to sit at a table until her daughter showed up. The tony Italian eatery has a policy of not seating incomplete parties unless someone has a reservation. According to witnesses, Ross arrived there for lunch Thursday afternoon ahead of her daughter. She then asked to be seated, but was denied. But Ross marched forth to a corner booth anyway.

Comments:
That photo is not recent. I´m curious about a current image.

Good for them for not being bullied by her "diva" attitude! So tired of these celebrities who think they are above the rules, and are too often treated as if they are!

Skipping a meal or two won´t hurt the diva.

Miss Ross has a long standing reputation for diva behavior. This doesn´t surprise me.

Typical entitlement mentality. But what do you expect from these people (that would be Hollywood limousine liberals)? Glad to see the restaurant hold the line.

There´s a "Supreme Court" joke hiding in there somewhere.

I´ve long lectured my kids about "rules-don´t apply-to-me!" attitudes. It´s those little personal behaviors that must be tended to. The please and thank-you´s, yes ma´am and no sir. Don´t throw trash on the ground. Return borrowed things promptly and in better condition than when you got it. A prime example was shopping carts in the grocery lot. All around were the carts where some folks didn´t feel the need to return them to the little cages. That´s where they go, that´s where the store implores us to put them for EVERYONE´s safety and convenience. And I told them - while on your way to putting the cart away - to pick up someone eles´s who didn´t, it would be nice. Little common courtesies that make life nicer for all. SOME folks feel those rules don´t apply to themselves. Lotsa folks, it seems.

I´m not a fan of hers, but all she had to do was say she was eating alone. She would have been seated, then when daughter arrived ask to have another place setting.

Good for LaScala! I have watched restaurants and other venues bow and scrape to celebs way too often over the years (even getting their luggage off a plane lst) while we "little people" sit and mutter. A real recommendation for the restaurant!!!!!!!

Just think of how much worse it would have been if it had been a trashy hip-hop "artist" who´d been stood up to? I don´t know if we´d have had a Jesse Jackson protest or a drive-by shooting.

Ha! La Scala is so popular and busy, it really doesn´t need has-been Diva Diana. Kudos to the owner for preserving the integrity of her restaurant. It sounds as though Diana and her kid made ***es of themselves in public. Impressive. /s

A little off topic, but we have some friends who, some years ago, went to one of her concerts. During the performance she said she would answer questions from the audience, but then only took questions from Blacks in the audience.

This 68+ grandmother can afford to get padded and spackled since she’s earned a ton and was married to the late Norwegian billionaire Arne Næss, for whom she bore two sons. Not a bad photo of her at the Kennedy Center Awards when W presented it to her. The article doesn’t which of her daughters, Rhonda Silberstein, Tracey Silberstein, or Chudney Silberstein, was joining her, but we have evidence Diana Ross only takes questions from Blacks at concerts...

Years ago the supervisor of my very small department decided to treat us all to lunch for Christmas at a restaurant with this "party must be complete to be seated" policy. I drove separately & stopped at the post office on the way but they had already gotten a table by telling the server their party´s missing person (me) was in the ladies´ room. They would´ve gotten away with it if immediately upon joining them I hadn´t asked "where´s the ladies´?"

# 12 Thank you from the rest of us.

I have been conducting a little experiment for about a year to see if others would do the same. I take an empty cart from the lot when I go into the store. In a year-maybe three others have copied me.

Obama to Charlie Rose, yesterday: I’ve stood up a privacy and civil liberties oversight board made up of independent citizens, including some fierce civil libertarians. I’ll be meeting with them and what I want to do is to set up and structure a national conversation not only about these two programs but also about the general problem of these big data sets because this is not going to be restricted to government entities. The board Obama is referring to was created in 2004. Nominations and confirmation delays prevented the board from being particularly effective,

Obama never fails to enlist children in his secularist crusades, whether at home or abroad. Last week he trotted out two nine-year-old girls to introduce him at a White House event celebrating “LGBT Pride Month.” “We could not be prouder of Zea and Luna for the introduction,” he said. “Zea and Luna are here with their moms, and also I think with Grandma and Grandpa — correct? And so feel free to congratulate them afterwards for their outstanding introduction.” Zea and Luna proved useful to Obama not only as props for LGBT rights but also as mouthpieces for his gun-control agenda:

With dozens of Democratic lawmakers struggling to live on a food stamp budget to protest GOP cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, a Republican staffer says he is living on a SNAP budget without problems. Texas Republican Rep. Steve Stockman’s communications director and agriculture policy advisor, Donny Ferguson, says he has been able to eat well on $27.58 for a week, less than the $31.50 House Democrats have limited themselves to for their “SNAP Challenge.” “I wanted to personally experience the effects of the proposed cuts to food stamps. The ongoing saga of Edward Snowden has at least been moving in the right direction for President Obama. Snowden may once have tried to position himself as a whistleblower, but he has since devolved into ingratiating himself with authoritarian regimes by plying them with American national security secrets. While Pete is correct that the NSA story seems to be hurting voters’ opinion of Obama’s trustworthiness, Americans are by now realizing that they would be foolish to go the other extreme and place that trust in Snowden. It is also (understandably) distracting the public’s attention from the scandals that preceded it,

In two contexts the Obama administration has revealed its complete confusion about high-stakes negotiations and the interrelation of soft and hard power. In Syria, after dragging his feet for two years, trying to fudge over his own “red line” and coming up with a half-hearted move to give small arms to the rebels, President Obama discovers that he can’t budge Russia, which has backed Bashar al-Assad to the hilt. The Post reports that at the Group of 8 summit: Obama has demanded that Assad relinquish power as part of any negotiated peace settlement, a condition Putin rejects.

At least for now (although a statewide referendum may be pending), Arizona governor Jan Brewer, a Republican, has succeeded in her efforts to implement a key part of Obamacare in her state. Brewer has very aggressively — and entirely voluntarily — spearheaded the charge to implement Obamacare’s massive Medicaid expansion on her watch. She now claims, however, that she’s not really implementing Obamacare — or at least not any significant portion of it. In a recent interview reported by the Associated Press, Brewer said, “This business that this is Obamacare is a little bit interesting.”

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.
