BOULDER, Colo. – A candlelight vigil was held in Boulder Sunday evening for an elk that was shot by a police officer last Tuesday. The vigil was held on Mountain View Road near where the incident occurred. Some residents say the elk was considered a friend and even a guardian. They created a memorial at a tree in the area. Two police officers who were involved in the incident have been placed on administrative leave while the Boulder Police Department investigates. Officers Sam Carter and Brent Curnow are now on leave with pay, Boulder Police Chief Mark Beckner

I hope the police cooked and passed around venison to the "homeless."

Candles, a good bottle of red wine, some smashed garlic taters, a little salad, and you can hold a vigil of your own! Oh, and of course, the guest of honor...

While a candlelight vigil does sound silly, it would be nice to know just exactly what the injury was to the animal that prompted the dude to shoot it. Don´t they have animal control there?

Those cops need to be prosecuted by the Colorado Division of Wildlife. They had no need nor authority to kill the elk.

Joe Sixpack would be fined $3000 and a loss of hunting privilege in Colorado.

If I had done the shooting, I´d be prosecuted.

Boulder needs to fire them because of psychological problems, bad judgement, and endangering the public. They are likely to do similar things in the future. The public is not safe with them in uniform and carrying guns.

Pay no attention to this whatsoever. It´s Boulder, for crying out loud. When we ran out of room for weirdos in Austin, we shipped the surplus to Boulder.

#10 is correct.

Boulder is dominated by America-hating lunatics, as is much of Colorado.

Please remember that the city of Denver recently attempted to ban people from mentioning Christmas or singing Christmas carols at their "formerly-known-as-Christmas-parade."

This state is controlled by the mentally ill.

The vigil is silly. The issue of a police officer poaching a big game animal (while on duty, no less) is a different matter entirely.

A candlelight vigil for an animal? I bet nearly every one of the people at the vigil is in favor of abortion.

Funny, none of these grief stricken vigil-goers seem to be able to make it to the Elk winter ranges to help the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation distribute hay to the herds to stave off winter kill.

My guess is the locations are too far away from a Starbucks.

Cops? Sound more like crooks. They were engaged in illegal hunting.

Of course allowing a male antlered animal around people is pure suicide. When that elk goes into rut it could kill a person with that rack.

I agree with #9 & 12. Yes, the vigil is a bit much. I am a total animal lover and hate to see one killed for no reason, but a candelight vigil is over the top. I might have a mini funeral for my pets, but that´s about it. I am much more concerned about these rogue cops who think they are above the law and then who obviously lie about what they did.

Yum, Elk steaks, stews and tenderloin. Killing an elk with one shot shows the officer is a marksman. He is an asset to the city.

Boulder will likely now put up a bronze sculpture of the elk thus competing with another bronze erected in Estes Park in honor of an elk that I think was hit by a car. Boulder closes Little League fields if prairie dogs decide to take up residence. Residents have dogs instead of children. And that´s where all the old Volkswagen buses have gone.

Chef Vered Guttman braved the challenge of preparing a White House Passover seder in line with Michelle Obama´s healthy eating guidelines and lived to tell her story. "The traditional seder fare is hardly fresh or healthy," Guttman wrote in a post-dinner review about incorporating vegetable sides to "offset some of the Jewish carbs" like gefilte fish and matzo ball soup. And her hard work to keep it healthy paid off, as both the President and First Lady praised her quinoa-kale salad and even inquired after the recipe. Guttman, a D.C. based caterer, worked with White House executive chef Cris Comerford

A new poll shows former secretary of state Hillary Clinton´s (D) numbers hitting their lowest point in six years. Meanwhile, it finds that the Republican Party is experiencing something of a renaissance. The Fox News poll, from Democratic pollster Anderson Robbins Research and GOP pollster Shaw & Company, shows Clinton´s favorable rating dropping to 49 percent, compared to 45 percent unfavorable. The last time her numbers were in that ballpark was during the 2008 Democratic presidential primary race. After she ended her campaign, her favorable/unfavorable split was 47/46. Other polls have shown Clinton´s numbers --

DENVER | Colorado Democrats abandoned their own divisive abortion proposal Wednesday, axing the bill after one lawmaker expressed indecision and it became clear they might not have the votes to pass it in a chamber where every vote matters. Democrats used a legislative maneuver to shelve a bill that would have banned any state regulation of reproductive decisions such as abortion and contraception. It had been scheduled for a vote Wednesday evening in the Senate, where the party holds a slim one-seat majority. The move came after Sen. John Kefalas, D-Fort Collins, said he wasn’t sure if the measure was

New York - In the fall of 2013, I gave a TED talk on what I learned as a progressive, on-air talking head at Fox News, where I worked for two years before leaving and joining my current home, CNN. After all, one of the most frequent questions I was asked during my time at Fox was how I did it, how I was a fox in the henhouse – or a hen in the Fox house, if you will. London - British police said Tuesday they had intervened after North Korean embassy officials reportedly told a London hairdresser to take down a discount haircuts advert featuring leader Kim Jong-Un. Mo Nabbach said two officials identifying themselves as being from the Stalinist state´s mission took pictures of his M&M Hair Academy in Ealing, west London. They then demanded to know his name and ordered him to remove the "disrespectful" poster from the salon window, he told the Evening Standard newspaper. The poster featured a large picture of Kim´s distinctive short-back-and-sides hairdo with the slogan: "Bad hair day? 15 percent off

Washington - It´s Friday night in Eckington, a quiet residential corner of Washington, and the back alley is crawling with feral cats -- rich pickings for seasoned cat-trapper Marty King. "Here, kitty kitty kitty kitty," said King after setting four metal traps baited with flaked shrimp and fish cat food and lined with fresh newspapers. President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

The White House is going to war with another fox — and this time, it’s personal. The Wall Street Journal reports that a red fox has been causing chaos around the White House, tripping security alarms, digging up Michelle’s garden and distracting the president from his duties. The Secret Service won’t give any details about how often the fox trips the White House’s obviously sophisticated security alarms, but rest assured, officials say, they’re watching. President Obama was apparently “stunned” to see the fox roaming freely down the oft-photographed White House colonnade, home to the world’s shortest, but most dramatic, outdoor strolls. Pelosi also used the occasion to talk about passing HR15 - bipartisan immigration legislation that her office says would "reduce the deficit by nearly $1 trillion, secure our borders, unite our families, protect our workers and provide an earned pathway to citizenship." Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
