FTA: The poultry industry, along with governors of nine states including Georgia´s Nathan Deal, beseeched the Obama administration to waive biofuel rules that produce cleaner gasoline but eat up 40 percent of the nation´s corn crop. The Environmental Protection Agency denied the waiver. Corn supplies remain tight and prices high.

When the biofuels thing first started I remember a prominent politician ridiculing the idea that the industry would soon be using an appreciable portion of the corn crop. He said you are just crazy, that it will never get that big. Now that it´s 40% of the corn crop this guy, is shown to be crazy himself. Burning food in your car is just plain crazy.

The US would do better by not producing any ethanol at all. We can import it cheaper than we can make it.
Sugar cane is the big source of ethanol and Brazil is the leading producer.
But now we have created an entrenched ethanol-from-corn industry. And it is not small. Add in the corn growers who like high corn prices.
Senators from corn states will not vote to change that.
Ethanol from switch Grass and cellulose were supposed to be here by now. Lots of it. Where is it? Then corn could go back to being a food.

Higher food prices because of ethanol; higher gasoline costs because of ethanol; higher taxes on individuals for redistribution of that money to corn farmers. Sick of demonrats and their buddy eco-terrorists yet?

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. He said it isn´t difficult to figure out who´s doing what at the agency.

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." The lawmaker leading the charge to investigate the Benghazi terror attack on Friday subpoenaed the co-author of a report that slammed the State Department but didn´t interview Hillary Clinton. House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men.
