| The New York Times’ Fox Butterfield is famous for repeatedly reporting with astonishment that crime rates went down as the prison population went up without giving much heed to the possibility that the two trends might be correlated rather than (as the paper’s house ideology insists) contradictory. Here’s a good instance. Well, he now seems to have some competition in the “incredulous about cause and effect” department at the Times. In today’s paper, Times business reporter Reed Abelson notes with barely masked bewilderment that insurance premiums are rising sharply as Obamacare’s insurance regulations begin to take effect.

Isn´t this an amazing country? The "best and the brightest" are utterly clueless while ordinary people see things clearly.

I lost my insurance on Dec. 31st. The premiums doubled and would actually be more than one of my paychecks. I could not afford it as my husband has just been laid off. We are both 61 and I hope to God we don´t have a serious medical situation. obamacare will be the last straw that breaks America´s back, We are so screwed.

Our Healthnet HSA - 7500 deductible - family policy has gone up 0ver 100% since Obamacare was passed.
In addition to the forced coverage of DC, CA has larded up the "must have" and first dollar "free" stuff

The NYT will be working overtime to report on the offices, compensation and private jets of health insurers in order to blame the companies. Obamacare requires 80% of premiums to be paid out as claims and claim expenses, so if the DNC´s mouthpiece can show that the remaining 20% is excessive, then its not Obama´s fault for soaring premiums, but the greedy private sector. Which then leads to editorials for single payer, government only health care to eliminate the 20% with 40% federal overhead.

I know more people than ever before who are living without medical insurance. A person who was receiving medicaid has just been told that he makes too much money to qualify--about $15,000/year.
The insurance premium if he has to buy insurance: $12,000/yr.

A report released on Tuesday by the National Council on Teacher Quality finds that U.S. teacher training is “an industry of mediocrity” that produces teachers without a clue. “The results were dismal,” said Kate Walsh, president of the bipartisan research group. Walsh told Reuters that new teachers "don´t know how to teach reading, don´t know how to master a classroom, don´t know how to use data." (Snip) Several colleges attempted to thwart the study. Some even tried to block the Council from obtaining data about their teacher training programs.

Thanks to a John Podhoretz tweet (by the way, if you don’t follow him, you should. His Twitter feed is constantly engaging and insightful), I came across a horrifying, sad article by blogger and career advice columnist Penelope Trunk. It chronicles her two abortions — her first when she was in the midst of a professional volleyball career (it was relatively late-term) and the second when her post-volleyball career was “soaring.” Before the first abortion, she learned she was pregnant relatively late — 14 weeks in.
