| The first time I met Lou Holtz was three years ago at a Republican policy retreat—he´s a friend of House Speaker John Boehner. At the time, Notre Dame was a mediocre football team following a string of disappointing seasons. Yet here was a former coach of the team—when it had last been a national power, from the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s—predicting a return to the glory days from a newly hired coach. Brian Kelly "will have Notre Dame back in the national championship game," Mr. Holtz said. "The man is a winner."

I was a Notre Dame fan as a kid, and I am still a fan as a Grandpa. I am also a fan of Alabama going back to the 1960 era. Most of all, I am a fan of great football and this should be a great game no matter who wins.

For a while I disliked Notre Dame football because the fan base had become quite arrogant and entitled. A very long dry spell has knocked that out of them. Go Irish!

I just hope it´s a good game. I get up early so if it looks like an early blow-out I´m going to bed. I lasted 5 minutes with Florida-Louisville.

I was born and raised in So. Bend not far from ND. My grandparents were big fans and went to all the games and I had an uncle who was on the ground crew. I have had the pleasure of viewing several games in the ND stadium. 61 years later I am still a big fan. Lou was always my favorite coach and I continue to enjoy him as a commentator. I will be cheering for the Irish.

Notre Dame is a second rate academic institution, supposedly Catholic, whose president chose to honor President Zero, the abortionist in chief.
Separate from that, Notre Dame beat Syracuse in 1960 with a favorable ruling from an in the tank official, handing ND the victory after time ran out.
Finally, Notre Dame has an automatic advantage in recruiting, and has not done much with it for several decades.
On the other hand, I don´t like Alabama either.
So I hope they both lose. That´s the kind of guy I am.

"Hate" Notre Dame? I despise Obama and Democrats for ruining our country, lives and prosperity but I rarely say ´hate´. Let´s keep some perspective. It´s a football game. Some of us are alumni of these schools. I haven´t read one ND supporter´s comment say they ´hate´ Alabama. This shouldn´t be spiteful.

My senior year at ND included that wonderful 1973 championship game against the Tide. For what it´s worth, I always liked Bear Bryant.
I hope the years ahead will include more ND Tide games in the regular season . As an aside, I did stop my donations to ND after the Obama fiasco.

#11 - I´ve been to several games at ND also. Last time was in 2006 ND beat Purdue 35 - 21. I still have the game shirt ... I wear it to the gym.

I can´t say one bad thing about Lou Holtz. But ND?? If you read the article carefully, you´ll see hints that the school has weakened academic stardards in order to broaden sports recruiting. They have become a stellar football school with decent academics rather than what they used to be, a stellar academic school with a decent sports program. A close friend, an ND graduate, no longer recommends the school for academics.

Lois Lerner, the IRS official in charge of tax-exempt groups, took her too-clever-by-half act to Congress yesterday and may have waived her right to claim her Fifth Amendment privilege in the process. Appearing before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, she couldn’t resist citing a little history, bragging on her public service, instructing the committee as to the purpose of the Fifth Amendment, and proclaiming her innocence of everything the committee might be interested in — all before asserting her Fifth Amendment privilege. Chairman Darrell Issa (R., Calif.) was a bit taken aback.

The expanding Internal Revenue Service scandal could hardly be any more Drudgeriffic. Well, maybe if in addition to singling out groups with “tea party” or “patriot” in their names, the agency had purchased a few billions rounds of hollow-point ammo. Maybe then. But even as is, the scandal is looking pretty bad and getting worse. The Wall Street Journal is now reporting that the IRS also “scrutinized conservative groups for raising political concerns over government spending, debt and taxes or even for advocating making America a better place to live.” We’ll see where this eventually goes.

One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.

The fact that this bit of information was conveyed to the protesters by a Department of Homeland Security officer who was also in attendance. Eva Longoria is backing up her beauty with a whole lot of brain. The actress graduated with a master´s degree Wednesday. Longoria, 38, took home a real degree (not an honorary one) in Chicano studies from Cal State Northridge, where she physically attended classes for three years, according to TMZ. "Big day today!!! Very excited to graduate for my master´s degree in Chicano studies! You´re never too old or too busy to continue your education!" the actress wrote on her Who Say site Wednesday, sharing loads of pics of her big day, posing with her family, cohorts and diploma.
