| Of all the many lies put out by the subsidy-troughing scum-suckers of the wind industry and their greenie fellow travellers, the biggest porkie of the lot is this: that wind turbines are eco-friendly. In order to believe this tosh, you´d first have to accept the warped view that being eco-friendly can legitimately entail wiping out millions of bats and birds. It is a measure of just how intellectually and morally corrupt Big Green has grown over the last few decades that many self-professed environmentalists actually cleave to this belief. I have never understood why wind turbines - which do not work - are considered environmentally friendly, while a hydroelectric dam - a truly renewable resource that does not pollute and actually works is considered to be evil. American Falls reservoir in Idaho provides a great deal of useful electricity. The nearby once-pristine foothills are now blighted with windmills.

Why don´t we in the US see photos like the one accompanying James Delingpole´s excellent article? I hate these bird and bat killing machines and the people who make money from them--pols and their pals gaming taxpayers for another massive eco-scam.

Actual working taxpayers have to subsidize the windmill pie in the sky scheme so eco-terrorists could care less on how many birds and bats get sliced or diced. Erect a dam and they pee all over themselves on how the fish can´t pass.

Barack Obama announced an end to America’s war on terror last week. In future, he declared, he would restrict the unmanned drone attacks that had been his own signature anti-terrorist initiative, and he would really, really make an effort to shut down the prison camp at Guantánamo Bay--as he had promised to do way back when he was running for president the first time. Presumably, this pronouncement was designed to win back the favour of the liberal media, which has been energetically disowning him ever since his administration staggered into the most spectacular series of Washington scandals since Watergate.

There has been a sixth night of rioting in Sweden´s capital, Stockholm, despite police reinforcements being deployed. Cars were set alight in poor suburbs inhabited largely by immigrants, although the unrest was reportedly not as serious as on previous nights. The rioting also spread outside the capital for the first time on Friday, with youths torching vehicles and buildings in two towns. [Snip] It is believed they were sparked by the death of an elderly man nearly a week before, who was shot by police after he allegedly threatened to kill them with a machete.

The leader of the Lebanese Shia militant Hezbollah movement, Hassan Nasrallah, has promised his supporters victory in Syria, where his fighters are backing President Bashar al-Assad. Mr Nasrallah said Hezbollah would stay in the conflict till the end. Syrian rebels in the besieged town of Qusair say they are under heavy bombardment from Hezbollah combatants. The town is close to the Lebanese border, a conduit for both the government and rebels to get weapons. The Metropolitan Police has defended the way it responded to reports of the killing in Woolwich, south London, after questions were raised about how long it took officers to reach the scene. The force said police were there within nine minutes of the first emergency call and firearms officers were at the scene five minutes after that.
