| WASHINGTON -- U.S. employers added 155,000 jobs in December, a steady gain that shows hiring held up during tense fiscal cliff negotiations in Washington. The solid job growth wasn´t enough to push down the unemployment rate, which stayed 7.8 percent last month, according to the Labor Department´s report Friday. FTA "solid job growth", "robust hiring", "stable hiring","encouraging sign for the coming months", "the economy is improving. Layoffs are declining"???? This is the Onion right? I don´t believe any of it. What a pant load this AP article is. It must have been written in the White House.

"The December jobs report showed that hourly pay is staying slightly ahead of inflation. Hourly wages rose 7 cents to $23.73, a 2.1 percent increase compared with a year earlier. Inflation rose 1.8 percent over the same period."
Net of inflation, average wages up just 0.3 percent in 12 months. This minimal increase will be washed away by the 2.0 percent increase in FICA withholding in 2013. Overall, another year of declining real wages. But at least the contraceptives are free.

We can have a zero unemployment rate. All that needs to be done is that the Bureau of Labor Statistics declare that all those unemployed have quit looking for work.

I remember back when George W. Bush was president and a job report would come out with the rate around 5%, and about, say 200,000 jobs were created. The media all slammed it, saying how it wasn´t enough and we were all going to go into a recession very soon, etc.
The entire world would be so different if only the press corpses could get their noses out of Barry´s rear end.

FTA: U.S. employers added 155,000 jobs in December.... The government also said hiring was stronger in the previous month than first thought. November´s job gains were revised up 15,000 to 161,000. October´s increase was nearly unchanged at 137,000.
IIRC, each of those numbers is below-replacement rates. That is, an actual net loss, not a gain, despite the article´s many positive characterizations [read: propaganda].

The employed count went from 143,549 (thousands) to 143,060, a decrease of 489,000 actual employed people.

I´m close to several twentysomethings who have been searching for permanent jobs for quite some time...and December/early January have surprised me. Recruiters were calling candidates between Christmas and New Year´s! I know some candidates had interviews that week and job offers this week. I was not expecting that; the end of year is typically a dead time in job placement.

Two things to take away from this. 19 of the states were estimated and the unemployment rate for November was revised up which indicates that December will be revised up to at least 7.9% I´m betting on 8.0% by March.

The latest reporting in the matter of Fox News Channel’s James Rosen indicates the Obama administration fought to keep the search warrant for Rosen’s private email account secret, arguing that the government might need to monitor the account for a lengthy period of time. The FBI has arrested a San Antonio man on charges he lied to get into the United States and tried to get a sensitive Defense Department position. A FREE press in a democracy demands a delicate balance. The First Amendment means the media must have the right to inquire without hindrance. The government has a legitimate interest in keeping some national security information secret. When these come into conflict, the balance often has been struck this way: The media are free to pursue secrets, but it is up to those in government to keep them. When the media come into possession of information that, if disclosed, could be damaging, the government can plead the case for secrecy — and the media generally are open to persuasion.

The brutal murder of an off-duty soldier by two Muslim activists continues to dominate the news in Great Britain. The scene was utterly bizarre: in broad daylight, in a busy section of London, the two Muslims apparently ran the soldier down with a car, within a block or two of his barracks, and then attacked him with knives and a meat cleaver. A day after insurers complained that Kathleen Sebelius and the Obama administration had pressured them to fund Enroll America, a House committee sent them a request for more information on the matter. Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election.
