| Actor Gerard Depardieu has hailed Russia´s decision to grant him citizenship, following a tax row with the government in his native France. In an open letter, he said he loved Russia, calling it "a great democracy". Mr Depardieu had recently announced he would give up his French passport after the government criticised his decision to move abroad to avoid higher taxes. Moscow earlier said President Vladimir Putin had personally signed the decree granting the actor Russian citizenship.(Snip) Mr Depardieu, described by Mr Putin as a successful businessman and friend, has developed close ties with Russia, which has a flat 13%

Gerard is one of my favorite actors--he is good or great in every role, and he has been in more than 1000 films.
But seriously GD, Russia?
I´ve been to Russia. Some great tourist sites and beautiful buildings--especially the Orthodox churches--but it is a corrupt, dirty, mean and uncivilized country.
That´s not an insult, by the way, it is a proud part of the vast nation´s history. It is still feudal and autocratic--and they seem to like it that way.

13% flat tax! That would be the way to reduce crookedness in Congress, if they couldn´t make money by jiggling the tax code. Plus all the twists and turns in the economy from tax shelters. etc.

Being rich and famous sure makes it easy to cut through the red tape! My dad tried moving there with his Russian wife but getting citizenship isn´t so easy for regular folks. I´m glad it didn´t work out though. If it had, I probably would never have seen him again. Amazing how a former communist country, that is moving back towards communism under Putin, has lower taxes than we do!!

Mobile - U.S. Rep. Jo Bonner, R-Mobile, confirmed today that he intends to resign from Congress later this year and take a job at the University of Alabama. Bonner, 53, has represented Alabama´s 1st Congressional District since taking office in 2003. He was re-elected in November with no Democratic opponent. One of two men allegedly being questioned in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings was shot and killed by an FBI agent in Florida on Tuesday, (Snip)A friend of Ibragim Todashev said he and Todashev were being investigated as part of the Boston bombings. He said Todashev, 27, knew bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev because both were MMA fighters. The man claims he and Todashev were interviewed by the FBI for nearly three hours on Tuesday. The friend said he left the interview, and when he came back to the apartment he found that there had been a shooting.
