Illinois Senate Democrats advanced legislation late Wednesday to restrict semiautomatic weapons and high-capacity magazines, pressing forward with new gun control measures in the waning days of the session over the objections of firearms groups. Amid the developments, the Illinois State Rifle Association issued an “urgent alert” to its members warning them that Democratic legislators were trying to push through last-minute anti-gun legislation.

Illinois Dems also want to increase taxes, want to increase the price of gasoline, want to shut-down oil and coal development, want to change America - which means they don´t like it, right?

Chicago had over 500 deaths in 2012 from gun violence, and it has some of the toughest gun laws in the nation.

Mexico does too, and it hasn´t stopped bad guys from having guns there either.

Let´s assume they are able to outlaw guns and survive a leagl challange. Will they included the guns that Obambi and Holder run into the state to support the drug lords in Chciago? Or is that differnt?

It´s the disarming of the populace that creates the real crisis. And that´s when the real wealth redistribution can get going. It´s worked so well in Cuba, North Korea and Detroit, why not try it in Illinois too?

Like other high crime states where the citizens live in fear, Illinois is only semi- American. Intelligent people with common sense should move out and leave the democrats to stew in their own juices.

For a state so far in debt why waste all that money? This must be to help out some constitutional law buddies of the state government. Just think of all the billable hours this will bring...sheesh

I hate Illinois Nazis.

Those of you in Illinois please call and write your State Senator and Representative in opposition to this legislation.

Meanwhile, Mayor Rahm closes mental care centers across the city and lays off Drs and therapists to save a few bucks which leaves patients without a place to for assistance.

Variations of this happen every year....the Chicago gang are particularly upset right now because the 7th Circuit is forcing the Legislature to write a CCW law to forestall IL going to Vermont carry. They hijacked a couple of bills and moved them out of a committee they control totally...actually getting this passed by the Senate is going to be a lot harder.

But apparently gun control does not include Chicago....

Oh, perhaps they mean LEGAL guns.

So are we now to expect pitched musket fusillades in the Chicago West Side?

Reply 10 - Posted by: Annalucia, 1/3/2013 4:18:12 PM     (No. 9096971)

"Those of you in Illinois please call and write your State Senator and Representative in opposition to this legislation."

Oh, I´ve done so, believe me.

Dunno what planet these people live on. Because the South and West Sides of Chicago are rife with thugs and gangs, the rest of the state should be disarmed?

Reply 11 - Posted by: neanderthal, 1/3/2013 5:16:50 PM     (No. 9097074)

Well, finally! This should bring the Chicago murder rate down to zero immediately. Well, shouldn´t it?

Reply 12 - Posted by: veritas, 1/3/2013 5:30:30 PM     (No. 9097097)

Isn´t this backward?

Shouldn´t murder be illegal? Why no law against murder? You could really have harsh punishments for that.

Gov. John Hickenlooper signed bills Wednesday that place new restrictions on firearms and signaled a change for Democrats who traditionally shied away from gun control debate in Colorado - a state with a moderate streak and pioneer tradition of gun ownership and self-reliance. Hickenlooper´s signature of the bills comes exactly eight months after dozens of people were shot in a movie theater in suburban Denver, and on the same day as the executive director of the state´s Corrections Department was shot and killed at his home.

My favorite memory of Ed Koch is a moment from one of the Democratic presidential primaries of the Eighties. He was in his hey-day: mayor of New York, omnipresent media yak-in-the-box, grand rebbe whose hand had to be kissed by any presidential candidate hoping to score with Jewish voters not only in NYC but Florida as well.

My fellow expatriate, Piers Morgan, appears to be on yet another quest to embarrass himself, this time by taking the Constitution’s amendments one by one and demonstrating in public that he has no idea what they mean. In the wake of Bob Costas’s anti-gun rant, Morgan took to Twitter to complain about the Second Amendment: Piers Morgan ?@piersmorgan The 2nd amendment was devised with muskets in mind, not high-powered handguns & assault rifles. 'Cooling Out’ the Voters

Confidence men know that their victim — “the mark” — is eventually going to realize that he has been cheated. But it makes a big difference whether he realizes it immediately, and goes to the police, or realizes it after the confidence man is long gone. So part of the confidence racket is creating a period of uncertainty during which the victim is not yet sure of what is happening. This delaying process has been called “cooling out the mark.” The same principle applies in politics. When the accusations that led to the impeachment of President Bill Clinton first surfaced, he flatly denied them all.

This has been a presidential election that should be held up as a cautionary lesson for the future. The lesson? How low American politics can stoop, and how to avoid it ever happening again. The 2012 presidential race is fraught with confusion and failed expectations, so much so that it is surprising that any reasonable voter would feel comfortable pressing the button for either President Barack Obama or Gov. Mitt Romney.

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.

Stuart Varney said this morning on "Varney & Co." that one of his producers was given a questionnaire with some surprisingly intrusive questions on it when he switched doctors. One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" Judge Andrew Napolitano explained that the question about guns comes out of a post-Sandy Hook executive order by President Obama, but it will be required under Obamacare. Varney expressed amazement
