Every time you turn on the lights, you may be putting yourself at risk, according to a disturbing new study. Energy efficient bulbs are eco-friendly and can save you big bucks, but experts say that they could also have a dark side. “When there is something in your house, you don’t perceive any danger, you wouldn’t get that close to an x-ray in a doctor’s office,” explained Miriam Rafailovich, Professor of Materials Science at Stony Brook University in New York. Comments: Where is an editor when you need one? This article seems to have been written on a phone and edited by spellcheck. I have never liked curly bulbs.

Yet another example of the law of unintended consequences.
Why let stubborn things like facts get in the way of showing the unwashed masses how much you "care" and know better.

It doesn´t even mention that you need a hazmat suit practically to clean up a broken bulb. Unbelievable.

The end of 2012 was also the end of 75 watt light bulbs, according to news I heard a couple of weeks ago. The 100 watts are already ´gone.´

I´ve noticed the incadesant heat bulbs I ordered from China at .35/unit sure put off a lot of light in the 60 watt model.
NOT joking.

CFLs are crap. Overpriced, don´t last near as long as advertised, need to call Hazmat when one breaks and now you need to wear SPF 50 and sunglasses indoors.
Well, somebody does -- it sure ain´t me.

This is obvious and has been for a long while. I don´t understand why they can´t scrap this legislation.
And this is on Republicans. A Republican wrote the legislation and a Republican president signed it. Scrap it!

CFLs have been found to leak mercury even if intact and functioning ´normally.´
Have a nice day.

This research came from SUNY Stony Brook. Their press releases are about as credible as press releases from UC Berkeley.
I am not defending compact fluorescents. I too have a stash of 100 W, 75 W, and 3-way incandescents. But I don´t believe everything I read from researchers at leftist schools.

Save money? I don´t think so. I´ve tried them. They cost much more, and don´t last nearly as long as claimed. Plus they are fire hazards. I had two burn out on me while emitting a strong smokey smell. There have been a few stories that leaked past the censors about these bulbs actually catching fire.

I´m done with them.

I installed them in my office at the ranch. I have to turn them on fifteen minutes early in order for them to gen up to enough light to work by. Effectively, I am wasting fifteen minutes of juice, since I can do not work by the twilight emitted in those fifteen minutes.

Given that there is mercury in the curly bulbs, the eco idiots realize that when one breaks you have to call hazmat to have them come clean up the mess? And in cleaning up the mess, they may have to do things from ruining carpet by cutting holes in it to cutting holes in your floor or maybe even condemn your house in a worst case scenario. Rush talked to a young man a couple of years ago when this subject first came up. The young man said that one of these bulbs got broken in one of those big box stores and people had to go to the ER for mercury poisoning. Problem is, most ER´s in this country aren´t familiar with the symptoms of mercury poisoning. And then there is the issue of landfills being turned into toxic mercury dumps. Oh yes, the bulbs are eco-friendly. And yes, the last sentence is laced with sarcasm.

I hope the White House and other government buildings have hundreds --no thousands-of these bulbs burning away. Our house has none. The new A shape Sylvania halogen bulbs look like and give the same warm light we all know and love . One has the same light quality as our 100 watts. They are not too expensive and best of all they are NOT GE.

I thought there was something wrong with the light from those compact fluorescent bulbs. They caused me eyestrain when using them as a close-up work light. Then I read you should stay at least two feet away from them at all times. Now we learn they can cause sunburn and even skin cancer from the strong ultraviolet radiation. I think the newer LED bulbs are safe to use, as they do not have the strong ultraviolet radiation.

David Siegel, the owner of Westgate Resorts, sent a surprising email to his employees Monday. It said that if President Barack Obama wins re-election and raises Siegel's taxes, he will have to lay off workers and downsize his company — or even shut it down. "If any new taxes are levied on me, or my company, as our current President plans, I will have no choice but to reduce the size of this company," he wrote. "Rather than grow this company I will be forced to cut back. This means fewer jobs, less benefits and certainly less opportunity for everyone."

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

As NewsBusters reported last week, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin called out vulgarian comedian Bill Maher for referring to her Down Syndrome son Trig as "retarded." On ABC´s The View Monday, co-host Barbara Walters astonishingly defended Maher saying, "I don´t think he intended it to be mean-spirited" (video follows with transcript and commentary): WHOOPI GOLDBERG: At a recent standup show in Las Vegas, comedian Bill Maher apparently called Sarah Palin’s five-year-old developmentally-challenged son Trig retarded. And Sarah blasted him on Twitter as a bully. Is that, is it, is he a bully? Is he a bad, what is he?

Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
