When´s the last time you heard a bunch of liberals bickering among themselves? i don´t remember it. One of the things they have going for them is they don´t care one wit about the debt/deficit,so as long as money is being thrown at something,they´re happy as clams.

King can´t understand why we´re not throwing billions at his problems when we threw over a 100 billion at Katrina.A lot of Katrina money was pure waste thrown out there to assuage charges of racism leveled against Bush. There´s no emotionally charged motivation behind throwing billions at Sandy. The country isn´t very sympathetic to NY or NJ anyway.

Then you have Christie who could have hurt Romney´s chances of winning,expecting other republicans to come to his rescue now. All that sucking up to Obama did little or no good because he doesn´t even give a crap about people in blue states that voted for him overwhelmingly.

So here you have King and Christie adding the he left´s narrative that republicans are cold hearted bastids who don´t care about suffering people,when there´s more poverty and wealth loss created under Obama in 4 years,probably since the great depression.

Water always finds a crevice to trickle through and so blame for all out problems will trickle to republicans even as the most powerful man in the world can´t get a dime to disaster victims but can easily find $5 million to vacation on.

Don´t the people in NY and NJ have insurance? What about FEMA? I thought they were supposed to provide aid to disaster recovery. More and more it appears as if the people of this country just stand around wailing while they wait for the government to help them. This is pathetic.

This is a shakedown campaign disguised as disaster relief. It´s shameful that a tragedy forms the basis for lobbying histrionics, but the past fours years have shown that a crisis is perfect cover for picking taxpayer pockets.

Makes you wonder if all the emotion surrounding the fiscal cliff deal and this "aid" deal, are really all about sharks in a feeding frenzy. Feeding off the taxpayer and getting their own chunk of our hides.

I took my first trip to New England last fall and was astounded at the wealth I saw along the coasts. It´s the thing I remember the most: the jaw-dropping homes everywhere. The above poster is correct. This bill is a shakedown of the American taxpayer. (I do love that John Boehner told Harry Reid what he should do to himself, though.)

FEMA offers loans for repairs to private property. It doesn´t pay for the repairs.

Many of these homes never flooded before so they weren´t put places they didn´t belong.

I´m not saying the bill isn´t loaded with pork, or that the country should care about 2 states the routinely vote democratic in national elections, but please let´s get the facts correct.

There are a lot of desperate people out here who are hard working people and have paid their taxes for years. FEMA´s response to this tragedy was worse than Katrina and no one is talking about it because the victims weren´t black.

I was in Charleston, SC for Hurricane Hugo in 1989 and never saw anyone from the government offering to help me. Well, I was with the government then (US Navy) and was offering help to Navy families. I did manage to get a free bag of ice one day.

Well, the fact is, FEMA´s flood insurance program is just that, an insurance program. Many of these people have been paying their premiums and the insurance hasn´t paid up. That´s over two months where you can´t hire a tradesman to fix your house, restore your plumbing, fix your heat. This isn´t loans, these people have insurance.

Also, I can´t cite the source, but during some committee testimony a few days ago, some agency informed Congress that there were enough resources to last through spring, and that more funding would likely be needed then. So this is just all the typical Kabuki dance of Washington. M

When are they going to start cleaning up with their own money, why do they not have insurance to deal with this? Why do they always have to have the taxpayer pay for things?

That´s the whole point, 20, which was described in other posts. These people DO HAVE FEDERAL flood insurance and it hasn´t paid up yet so they can´t fix their homes. Private insurance companies do not cover flood damage. These homeowners are waiting for their federal flood insurance to pay up, the money comes from the taxpayers like all federal $ does.

#17, you probably know that Charleston has the same mayor (Joe Riley) as during Hugo. He´s on his tenth term at age 69, took office in 1975.

Whenever a hurricane threatens metro Charleston, Joe always reminds us that we cannot rely on the federal government and that we probably will be without help for at least three days, maybe longer. He strongly urges us to have an emergency stash of supplies. We have fairly good building regulations, as far as I know. Only a hit will tell us how good those regulations are. (For instance, new housing has long been required to provide window protection of some sort, beginning with plywood shutters.)

Riley is a Democrat educated at the Citadel and USC School of Law. I don´t agree with all his decisions and positions (he seems to spend a bit more money than I like) but he appears to be a genuinely honorable man who puts the Charleston area and its residents before all else.

Too bad the msm doesn´t tell the whole story.Then maybe some of these people would wise up and know this country can´t continue to throw billions down the drain for pork that isn´t needed and especially included in bills that they think will automatically be passed. Wish they would print the names of all the porkers and what their requests were.

Is this money to fund FEMA´s payout of insurance claims? If not then not to panic what does it matter, it is all fairly worthless. It consists of the pols, in order to keep their cozy positions, authorizing funds for whatever they want and then funding with funds obtained by borrowing from the government. Worthless. This in turn is creating a panic to get in on the huge easy money before it is gone. We will see more and more of this the closer we approach the end. I am guessing that the pols are now taking their graft money and converting it into something other than US dollars probably outside the US. They see the end and they are preparing for it, all the while telling the suckers and rubes not to worry.
