| Demographics buffs get a special Christmas present every year courtesy of the Census Bureau: its annual estimates of the populations of the 50 states and the District of Columbia. This gives demographers a chance to see where the nation is growing and where it is not, and to get an idea of the destination of immigrants and of the flow of people into one set of states and out of another. Nationally, the Census Bureau estimates that the United States has grown from 308 million people when the Census was conducted in April 2010

I don´t really see whats ´good´ about it. More population means more congestion, crime, traffic jams, and competition for fewer available jobs. And anything thats good for D.C will NOT be good for the rest of the country. The surprising part was CA. I would have expected a much larger exodus from there than is being reported.

Could this be better explained as the insects swarming? Insects are liberals who vote for Rats and destroy a state then move to a state that is still prosperous because it was governed by conservative principles. They take that over and destroy it as well. What is needed is for voters who vote for the same things with their ballot as they vote for with their feet!

When Barone says that DC´s population grew "thanks to the federal government and gentrification" he actually has it backwards. Most of DC´s recent growth is "gentrification" driven by young adults who work in the private sector. The Federal government is certainly expanding. However, because the Federal government has limited office space in DC, most of the new bureaucrats work in the MD/VA suburbs or even farther away. For example, HHS has long had an office complex in suburban Baltimore for the army of bureaucrats that run Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. That´s where most of the new Obamacare bureaucrats are going as well--not downtown DC.

Earlier this year, the Government launched the clasp for those who had taken part in the air offensive during the Second World War, but stopped short of awarding a medal, as campaigners had been calling for. But figures suggest that barely half of those eligible for the lesser award have so far applied, with veterans snubbing the “pathetic” award. The expanding Internal Revenue Service scandal could hardly be any more Drudgeriffic. Well, maybe if in addition to singling out groups with “tea party” or “patriot” in their names, the agency had purchased a few billions rounds of hollow-point ammo. Maybe then. But even as is, the scandal is looking pretty bad and getting worse. The Wall Street Journal is now reporting that the IRS also “scrutinized conservative groups for raising political concerns over government spending, debt and taxes or even for advocating making America a better place to live.” We’ll see where this eventually goes.

WASHINGTON - There were new questions Saturday night concerning if anyone in the White House was aware of the IRS´ targeting of conservative groups. Inspector General Russell George said he informed a deputy at the Treasury Department in June of 2012 about the probe into the IRS. The Treasury Department confirmed the timeline but said they did not know the details of the investigation until last week.(Snip)Marcus Owens ran the tax-exempt division at the IRS for 10 years. He said it isn´t difficult to figure out who´s doing what at the agency.

It began in earnest last Friday. A flash mob of latte drinking, tofu eating media that has done its best to quell, rather than fan the flames of truth, turned on one of their own. Jay Carney lay bludgeoned at the base of the podium, a victim of friendly fire. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.
