crisis deal from Hawaii

Honolulu - President Obama has signed a bill that boosts taxes on the wealthiest Americans, while preserving tax cuts for most American households. The bill, which averts a looming fiscal cliff that had threatened to plunge the nation back into recession, also extends expiring jobless benefits, prevents cuts in Medicare reimbursements to doctors and delays for two months billions of dollars in across-the-board spending cuts in defense and domestic programs. The GOP-run House approved the measure by a 257-167 vote late Tuesday, nearly 24 hours after the Democratic-led Senate passed it 89-8.

Comments:
Seems ironic that 0bama once again uses the autopen to sign major legislation that puts the screws on the rest of US.

Well, didn´t someone use an auto-pen to sign Obama´s birth certificate in Hawaii?

At some point, probably not too far off, a certain number of people who cannot sit idly by just watching the malevolent socialists and their GOP enablers destroy the US economy, are going to do - something - about it.

One day, perhaps, people are going to wake up from this grim nightmare and realize that you can´t confiscate material wealth from productive people, while not cutting spending on non-productive people without eventually resorting to violence. Obama´s road has only one destination, whether or not he realizes it, and that destination is tyranny by an oligarchy that thinks it is qualified to make personal decisions for individuals including how much money an individual should have.

The two America Edwards was talking about is already here, but it is not based on wealth but based on world view. One thinks that an elite, qualified small group of people should make decisions for the rest of us while the other thinks individuals living with freedom to make even bad choices trumps the gilded cage of socialism.

"And I hope that everybody now gets at least a day off, I guess, or a few days off, so that people can refresh themselves" Uhmmm.... The REST of the "people" worked all year(if they even have jobs)in order to get a day or two off around Christmas...We ALL went back to work already. But Gee.."stroke of the autopen, Law of the land"..just declare a paid vacation for the rest of US until you decide to come back from your SECOND Vacation in as many weeks.

obama did nothing of the kind. He signed tax rates for 2013. Fiscal cliff (massive debt) is still dead ahead.

The media conglomerate is already touting this deal as the wave of the future on how bipartisan deals get done.In other words, simply cave to Obama´s demands and tell those stupid tea partiers to pound sand.

The left accomplished a huge goal here by making republicans cave on their no tax pledge. Now what do they have left as part of the party´s brand? Gun ownership? That´s next to go on the chopping block, sometime in Feb.

Debt ceiling increase being tied to spending cuts? Good luck with that. The liberals never give back already approved spending,no matter how wasteful it is and the GOP´s PR machine does a terrible job pointing out wasteful programs.Romney should have rammed Obama´s stimulus waste and lies down his throat and didn´t.

The left thinks Bush wasted $800 billion on 2 "unnecessary" wars so they should get the same amount of aimless spending.

How do you like the fact that a saved job counts the same as a new job?

You don´t need an extended magazine clip to go hunting so hey let´s cave on that also.

There is no Republican brand anymore. The RINO´s took the Party over long ago and sold us out. McCain, Graham, Boehner, McConnell, Romney. Their message fails every time it is tried but never changes. Perhaps instead of secret deal making with a committed America hating socialist freak Boehner should have been explaining to the American people exactly what was happening here.

We the People need to deduct the cost of flying that piece of compost legislation to Hawaii from the Campaigner-In-Chief´s next paycheck...how truly decadent!

The Democrats have just snuck in a tax increase on the first dollar, and every dollar thereafter, that the poorest working person in the Country earns. Apparently, to them, anyone who earns money is "Rich"?

We must end the charade that Social Security withholding is anything other than a 15%+ tax on the first dollar everyone earns. We should at least refer to the half ironically labeled "Employee Contribution" as what it really is; Income Tax.

Washington - A key committee in the Republican-led House has taken up a tough enforcement-focused immigration bill, but the proceedings were immediately interrupted by protesters shouting "Shame, shame!" More than a dozen protesters began chanting as soon as Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte of Virginia gaveled the committee hearing open Tuesday. Goodlatte stopped the proceedings until the protesters were ushered into the hall, where their shouts could still be heard. Goodlatte said the bill under consideration, which empowers local law enforcement to enforce federal immigration

It’s been two years since NASA’s space shuttle program came to an end, but thousands of Americans still dream of becoming astronauts. Eight of them – four men and four women – were introduced Monday as NASA’s astronaut candidate class for 2013. (Snip) The bios of the eight people selected will probably make you feel like a bit of a slacker. Two of them have PhDs and one is a physician training in sports medicine. Four have experience as test pilots for the Navy or Air Force. One person is working at the Pentagon on ways to defeat the homemade bombs that have plagued troops in Iraq and

Washington - After Republicans lost the presidential election and seats in both the House and the Senate last year, many in the party offered a stern admonishment: If we want to broaden our appeal, steer clear of divisive social and cultural issues. Yet after the high-profile murder trial of an abortion doctor in Philadelphia this spring, many Republicans in Washington and in state capitals across the country seem eager to reopen the emotional fight over a woman’s right to end a pregnancy. (Snip) The bill stands no chance of becoming law, with Democrats in control of the Senate and the White House.

Tehran - President-elect Hassan Rowhani of Iran, speaking Monday for the first time since his election victory, said he wanted to reduce tensions with the United States but ruled out direct talks between the two estranged nations. In his first news conference after winning Friday’s presidential election promising more freedoms and better relations with the outside world, Mr. Rowhani called the issue of nonexistent relations between Iran and the United States “an old wound, which must be healed.” Iran, he said, wants to reduce tensions between the two countries, which have no diplomatic relations and are

Washington - Pharmaceutical companies that pay rivals to keep less-expensive generic versions of best-selling drugs off the market can expect greater federal scrutiny after a Supreme Court ruling on Monday. In a 5-to-3 vote, the justices effectively said that the Federal Trade Commission can sue pharmaceutical companies for potential antitrust violations, a decision that is likely to increase the number of generic drugs in the marketplace and benefit consumers. Specifically, the justices threw out lower-court rulings that said the agreements were legal, provided that a deal did not keep a generic

A group of whistleblowers, including a number of aviation experts, have come forward in a new documentary to claim that the official explanation for the crash of TWA Flight 800 was wrong and a gas tank explosion did not bring down the flight off the coast of Long Island 17 years ago. However, the six whistleblowers, all part of the original investigation team, stopped short of saying the plane was shot down. Flight 800, a Boeing 747, had just taken off from JFK airport with 230 people aboard on July 17, 1996 enroute to Paris when it exploded

Amid a steady rise of backlash, Edward Snowden, the 29-year-old former National Security Agency contractor who was the source of a spring of leaks about the agency´s surveillance methods, conducted a live chat on The Guardian´s website Monday morning. Judging from some of the pointed questions he´s been asked and the reaction to newly leaked revelations over the past few days, it´s clear that much of the sympathy and support Snowden had built up for his early exposures is eroding. Many Americans supported his decision to leak information about a pair of National Security Agency surveillance programs, which, he detailed, gathered information

An attorney whose firm represents two Benghazi whistleblowers said Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, lied to the Senate when he said there was never a “stand down” order during the Benghazi attack on Sept. 11, 2012. “What was fascinating is that he explained his lie to them,” Joe DiGenova, an attorney representing one of the whistleblowers, told CNSNews.com. “He actually said they were sent to Tripoli. They were needed in Benghazi,” said DiGenova, a former U.S. attorney, now with the Washington firm of DiGenova & Toensing.

Jeb Bush says he’s not worried that his work toward comprehensive immigration reform and his ties to the GOP establishment will alienate conservatives and negatively impact a potential 2016 presidential campaign, referring to critics as “the chirpers.” “If I decide to run for office again, it will be based on what I believe, and it will be based on my record,” the former Florida governor said in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network’s David Brody. “And that record was one of solving problems completely from a conservative prospective.” Bush (R) pointed to his conservative

Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. "Really, what we´re trying to do is take sides against extremists of all sorts and in favor of people who are in favor of moderation, tolerance, representative government, and over the long-term, stability and prosperity for the people of Syria," said Obama.

Marco Rubio. Paul Ryan. The IRS. Illegal immigration. And fraud to the tune of billions.. Now there’s a combustible mix. Let’s start with the IRS, illegal immigration and fraud. We’ll come back in a minute to Senator Rubio and Congressman Ryan. For those who came in late, a year before the IRS scandals burst onto the scene in early May of 2013, an alert investigative reporter for WTHR-Indianapolis (Channel 13), Bob Segall by name, produced a stunning piece of journalism. Segall’s video report is found here and we will quote from his story for the basics.
