President Obama Returns
to Hawaii Vacation
Post-Cliff Deal

Less than an hour after Congress and the White House resolved the fiscal cliff, President Obama boarded Air Force One to return to his planned Hawaiian holiday vacation. He boarded the plane at Joint Base Andrews in Camp Springs, Md., shortly before midnight Wednesday following a New Year’s Day of political drama on Capitol Hill. The 10-hour overnight flight was scheduled to arrive in Oahu around 5 a.m. local time Wednesday when he will reunite with First Lady Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia, who have been vacationing there since just before Christmas.

Too bad the deal didn´t cut all funding for Air Force 1. That would have been sweet to see him go through airport security like the rest of us as he takes multiple hops in coach class red-eye flights to get back to his multi-millin dollar, tax-payer funded vacay.

Other than wasting a LOT of jet fuel, why exactly did 0bama leave Hawaii in the first place? It´s not like he helped things along...he could have given arrogant interviews from Hawaii.

Found out over the holidays that more relatives than I thought had voted for this poseur. Depressing. Very depressing.

Message: Dear Leader cares, he really cares. So much caring. He flew all the way to DC just to help people. Those greedy Republicans caved under the weight of his massive leadership skills, and now the nation is once again saved from their meanness and ignorance. Dear Leader saved the day, and now on the 7th day must he rest.

Wow, being a public service employee sure has it´s perks. But, hey, until something cast atrophic happens they are now running the show. Obama´s behavior and lack of work ethic epitomizes what they all are.

Must be nice to have a vacation, especially one when you can stay in HI indefinitely.

I hope the next Congress has the guts to shut this government down. No debt ceiling increase and only cuts. Let´s start proposing cutting out totally the Dept. of Energy and Education to start. No more pork either.

You can´t accuse them of kicking the can down the road. It would be more accurate to say they kicked it down the driveway.

Stopping an increase in the nation´s debt ceiling will amount to "Custer´s Last Stand" for the Repubs. I believe they did the right thing on the fiscal cliff thing, if only that it sets the table the real battle ahead.

Obama put in an appearance during the wheelings and dealings, made a few threats if they did not give him what he wanted (our tax money), and jetted off in the wild blue yonder to plan his next family vacation. I wonder if he will go to Russia this year?

Dittos #4 - What was the point of Barack coming back to Washington in the first place? It´s not like he was needed there for anything. The government runs along fine without him. ValJar runs the White House, the government basically runs itself. All Barack does is cost the taxpayers more money. Maybe it would be better if he just spent his time away on permanent vacation? Wait a minute, he already does that.

Whadda ya want from him? The poor guy’s been toiling tirelessly on our behalf over the past four years. Can we blame him for being in a hurry to get back to vacationing with his family? If spending more time with his family is apparently what he wants, putting in for early retirement would be the way for him to go.

Think “President Joe Biden.” People in the know say if you ask to see his birth certificate, he shows it to you without a moment’s hesitation. With Biden, I believe he’s pretty much a ‘what you see is what you get’ guy. With Obama, we certainly know better by now, don’t we?

Statism: Pope Francis seemed to have an economic blind spot, to say the least, when he urged more "state control" to cut global poverty Thursday. On the contrary — the biggest poverty-killer in history is free enterprise. Before we go further, let us say that we know that the pope does seem to have the best intentions and his devotion to the poor is indisputable. But it appears he has been infected by the local economic pathologies of his homeland, Argentina, and its liberation theology among the Jesuits, at least when he warned ambassadors about "the tyranny of money"

Democracy: The IRS targeting of Tea Party groups is mind-boggling not only for its abuse of government power. It´s also disturbing for what it intended to do: destroy civil society, opening a door for tyranny. The formation in 2009 of hundreds of Tea Party groups at the rallying cry of CNBC news editor Rick Santelli, from places as diverse as Lowell, Mass., Pleasanton, Calif., Asheville, N.C., Yuma, Ariz., and Lincoln, Neb., among hundreds of others, was a spontaneous reaction by ordinary American citizens to an overspending, oversized government whose overreach called into question its constitutionality.

Many observers have pondered if the United States is following the same troubled path as Argentina. In the 1940s, Argentina’s Juan Domingo Perón used government agencies for political gain and created a popular form of fascism called Perónism. In the United States, the recent revelation of the Internal Revenue Service targeting political enemies is a bad omen. Are we on an Argentinean course? The road to decay in my native country, Argentina, began with the implementation of one of the most powerful collectivist doctrines of the 20th century: fascism.

CARACAS, Venezuela — First milk, butter, coffee and cornmeal ran short. Now Venezuela is running out of the most basic of necessities — toilet paper. Blaming political opponents for the shortfall, as it does for other shortages, the embattled socialist government says it will import 50 million rolls to boost supplies. That was little comfort to consumers struggling to find toilet paper on Wednesday. "This is the last straw," said Manuel Fagundes, a shopper hunting for tissue in downtown Caracas. Venezuela in 2012 became a net importer of gasoline as a result of escalating problems at its refineries and increasing demand for fuel in its internal market, joining a growing list of countries that struggle with fuel supplies despite ample oil reserves. Venezuela exported 30,000 barrels per day (bpd) of gasoline and naphtha last year, according to state oil company PDVSA annual report. But it imported an average of 66,300bpd of the same fuels from the US alone, according to US energy department data.

What did President Obama do on the evening of 9/11/12 when our men were under attack in Benghazi? The invaluable Andrew McCarthy reminds us that Obama and Secretary Clinton had a 10:00 p.m. phone call of which many (including, I think, Chris Wallace) have lost sight. This morning when Wallace asked Obama aide Dan Pfeiffer what Obama was up to that evening, Pfeiffer declared the line of inquiry “offensive.” Translation: Obama and his minions would prefer to “move on” and are warning the likes of FNC off:(Snip for video)The Weekly Standard’s Daniel Halper has posted the rush transcript

In the wake of one of the worst abuses of government power in recent history, many are rushing to frame the Internal Revenue Service scandal as simply an attack on conservative activists. That view risks creating a partisan political football and misses a fundamentally scarier abuse that exceeds the scandals of Watergate or any other prior government abuse. The IRS has admitted that since May 2010 it targeted grassroots-conservative organizations that had applied for tax-exempt status, unfairly subjecting them to rigorous scrutiny due to their political leanings. Such groups were told they were required to comply with IRS requests,

Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." Lew said that while President Obama is willing to discuss plans to reduce the nation´s deficit with Congress, those talks must be kept separate from any effort to raise the nation´s debt cap.
