| Here are some glass-half-full observations on last night’s McConnell-Biden fiscal deal from an inveterate optimist. Raising taxes on those who are already paying roughly double their fair share, while leaving everyone else’s taxes the same, is lousy public policy. But from the Republicans’ point of view, it may be good politics. For the last four years, the Obama administration has run up unprecedented deficits, adding more than $4 trillion to the national debt. How has President Obama justified such profligacy? He has been a broken record: his mantra is that we just need to increase taxes on the “wealthy,”

I agree with John. The GOP was never going to win,the no news taxes,for the rich debate so let the taxes go up and watch the Democrats try to frame the next tax increase proposal. Or the continued deficit fiasco.

Republicans have forgotten what a republic is. Republicans need to initiate a constitutional crisis. An Ordinance of Nullification by any Red state leadership, coupled with tax and bank haven legislation would be the brick for the glass house that is the dems socialist stranglehold. I´m done with John Hinderaker (he was among the first handing out the "Romney´s the only one who can win" Kool-Aid).
John, it´s not "precisely the tax increases that Obama has been demanding for four years". He wanted to raise taxes on everyone over $250,000.
When the debt problem gets worse he´ll say it´s because he didn´t get what he wanted. Yes, we know that´s ridiculous, but the sycophants in the news media will repeat it and all those voters lacking knowledge will accept it as fact.

An IRS supervisor working in Washington told congressional investigators that she personally reviewed applications from groups for tax-exempt status, in testimony that appears to show the agency’s scrutiny of conservative groups extended beyond the confines of the office in Cincinnati. Holly Paz, who was a supervisor in the Internal Revenue Service’s tax-exempt status division, indicated during an interview with congressional investigators that she did review such applications, but indicated that she believed “tea party” meant political advocacy in general — not necessarily conservative groups.

The Supreme Court ruled today in Arizona v. Inter Tribal Council that federal law does not allow states the option of requiring voters to prove they are American citizens when they register to vote. Syria is turning out to be a sort of Spanish Civil War of our age, with Hezbollah and Iran playing the role of fascist Italy and Germany, and the Islamic nations and jihadists that of Stalin’s Russia, as the moderates disappear and the messy conflict becomes a proxy war for greater powers, with worse to come. Charlie Rose last night asked President Obama his new Syria policy. The president first objected to it being called a new policy. "I´m not sure you can characterize this as a new policy. This is consistent with the policy that I´ve had throughout," he said. Obama then explained the goal is regional stability, and especially in Syria. It is understood that a contingency plan is in place for the unlikely event that an attempt would be made on the President’s life. The Secret Service also have diplomatic immunity which will allow them to shoot to kill a would-be assassin without fear of prosecution. As part of the “evacuation route” plan, they would be able to spirit the President by chopper to one of the carriers where a jet is on standby to take him back to the United States.
