KENT, WA - Three coyotes attacked a Kent man Friday, leaving him bruised and bleeding and his dog frightened. Now, Faron Scarberry, who lives next door to a school, wants to get the word out about the frightening attack before the wild animals strike again. "They were coming around the bush and I guess they were going after my puggle." Scarberry said. Scarberry was walking his dog in Kent near his home when the dogs approached. "One of them lunged up towards me and I kind of pushed it away with my hand and its front claws scratched

I´ve had a friend report being stalked by a coyote in a residential neighborhood with her dog on a leash. Coyotes killed all of my neighbors chickens. They´re menaces.

What you often hear from the low-info leftists is that coyotes never hunt in packs and they´ll run from a human. Nope. Anyone who says they can predict what a coyote will do is someone who has fictionalized this particular beast.

Coyotes are a BIG problem in Huntington Beach, CA. My friend just moved there. They attack pets and children and even adults. It is crazy but they have no fear of humans.

Once I was driving at night and a large dog looking critter bolted across the road in front of me. Hit my brakes because I didn´t want to hurt a dog. It was a bleeping coyote. Them things is big.

Have roadrunners around, they always outsmart coyotes.

We´ve had them walking right down our street in the daytime in the middle of a north Atlanta suburb. And it´s not like it´s a new neighborhood which has just taken away their territory. This whole area has been highly developed since the mid-80s.

Have seen them running across the road here in Newport Beach too... Friend´s dog killed on 9th fairway... Love my great blue heron who swoops in most every night just after dusk to perch on a horizontal limb above our drive... to escape those critters in Back Bay...

Coyotes are expanding their territory because of a lack of hunting pressure.

AS a volunteer police assistant, yeas ago in New Mexico, I got to see the aftermath of coyotes attacking some kids waiting for a school bus beside a rural road. I can not describe here the horrible wounds two of the kids got. One had to have a permanent colostomy! It´s the way coyotes and other wild dogs attack prey. It is their nature. They are not evil, they are just wild animals. Nature is not cruel- it is just nature. Sadly, we have moved into the wild and now the wild animals must pay the price. That´s the nature of man.

I would say they should go to the Rick Perry school of defense against animals. He handled it! If we had them here, I would not hesitate to carry a weapon at all times when outdoors. It´s them or us!

Smart critters them coyote´s. Hanging out by a school. Small game to attack at recess, and there won´t be any guns in sight to hurt em.

Coyotes over the last fifty years have been increasing in size due to the availability of food sources. If you put out dog or cat food and it is not immediately consumed by your animals, coyotes will sneak in and scarf it up. More pups in coyote litters survive now because man has made food so readily available. Coyotes live and thrive in urban areas on rats, abandoned puppies, and kittens. We have a green belt on one side of our neighborhood. The people on that side have reported coyotes nimbly leaping the fence and killing small pets, while their owners were right there.

As my husband just commented, coyotes are just one step down from the wolf.

Very astute observation, #14.

Coyote killed my daughters cat. Didn´t even eat it, i do not buy that they are simply looking for food. They kill pets, harass livestock, and get into stuff. They are just nuisances. Best pack a .22 when walking the dog.

Coyotes are not native to the Eastern US - yet they have expanded their range here in Ohio to every county. Here it is open season on them but there is not a bounty on them either. Fewer people are hunting critters & varmints at all, so coyotes have little fear of people. They just look on us as food sources - garbage, little pets & bigger game. I have a coyote running down a full grown deer. I don´t know if he got it - it was in broad daylight & the deer was blooded. Fifteen years back we had a neighbor trying to trap coyotes. They had killed several big dogs on our street. Later when he stopped we had a pack running at night. Folks are going to have to up the pressure on these vermin by shooting them and making garbage & pets (prey) less accessible.

When you go for a walk in coyote country, bring a gun and leave the lunch back at the house.

A few years ago, on a bicycle trek with my two brothers, we left in pre-dawn darkness, and were followed for some distance by a yipping coyote pack. They never made a move and stayed a respectful distance, pacing us, I supposed gauging edibility, then they finally got tired and veered off. I suppose they expected us to wear out and stop. Too bad for them.

A "puggle"? A "puggle"? Good for the coyotes. They were provoked at what was done to some of their distant relatives, clearly.

#5: Or a stock of anvils, if one can heft them aloft in time of need.

#19: A .22? Why, to shoot your poor dog? I´d want a lot more gun to drop a coyote [or a couple of ´em] quickly.

Reply 24 - Posted by: mackrand, 1/1/2013 9:33:43 PM     (No. 9093845)

A 22, like a Sig Mosquito, is plenty to get the attention of an attacking coyote at close range. That is if you can keep your head on and not run at the first sign of a threat.

I´m wondering if Obama can say "coyote"? He prolly didn´t watch many Roadrunner Cartoons while he was growing up. He was sure to have read Mien Kampf though.

What´s going to happen to wildlife numbers when Obie takes our guns away??

I may invest in indoor exercise equipment - outdoor stuff will be ´at your own risk´.

WASHINGTON - iPad maker saving billions of dollars in U.S. taxes through Irish subsidiaries and told lawmakers that his company backs corporate tax reform, even though it may end up paying more. The Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations has found that Apple in 2012 alone avoided paying $9 billion in U.S. taxes, using a strategy involving three offshore units with no discernible tax home, or "residence." Cook, in his first congressional testimony since becoming Apple CEO in 2011, said his company is a major taxpayer, handing over nearly $6 billion in cash to the U.S. government in 2012.

Americans in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll sharply reject special scrutiny of conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service, suspect an administration cover-up of the Benghazi incident and express substantial distrust of the federal government more generally. (Snip) Longer-term impacts of contentious current issues remain to be seen, but there´s potential for significant damage to the administration. Americans by a vast 74-20 percent see the IRS´ behavior as inappropriate, with most feeling that way strongly - and 56 percent see it as a deliberate attempt to harass conservative organizations, not a mere administrative error.

A massive tornado ripped through Moore, Okla., Monday afternoon, leveling a huge swath of a residential area in the suburb of Oklahoma City. Video footage from KFOR-TV showed houses, businesses and at least two schools completely demolished, with cars strewn about. Police and emergency crews have begun to respond, but debris has clogged roadways. There is no tally yet on injuries or deaths, but news anchors said significant casualties are expected. At least one large fire has broken out amid the rubble. The twister is already being compared to the May 3, 1999 storm that ripped through Moore

LOS ANGELES - More poor people live in the nation´s suburbs than in urban cities because of affordable housing, service-sector jobs and the increased use of housing vouchers, according to a study released Monday. The number of those in poverty living in suburbs jumped 67 percent between 2000 and 2011, a much larger increase than in cities, researchers for the Brookings Institution said. Suburbs, however, still have a smaller percentage of the poor than cities do. The report notes that poor people were pulled to the suburbs by more affordable homes and followed jobs that were often low paying.

LOS ANGELES -- flocking to Southern California beaches are used to feeding the meter or paying a parking attendant. Not so along the less developed north coast where it´s customary to ditch cars on the shoulder of Highway 1 to surf, swim or picnic. That sandy line that long defined the state´s disparate beach culture may soon fade. In search of new revenue, the state parks system is eyeing parking fees for parts of the Northern California shoreline where none existed or considering hiking rates to visit popular beaches south of Los Angeles during peak periods.

CAIRO — The pale, young Christian woman sat handcuffed in the courtroom, accused of insulting Islam while teaching history of religions to fourth-graders. A team of Islamist lawyers with long beards sang in unison, "All except the Prophet Muhammad." The trend is widely seen as a reflection of the growing power and confidence of Islamists, particularly the ultraconservative Salafis. "Salafis are the engineers of these stories,"

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”
