Senate Votes to Kill Its
Own Pay Raise

Roll Call, by Niels Lesniewski

Original Article

Posted By:JoniTx, 1/1/2013 2:14:48 PM

Buried in the fiscal cliff deal passed by the Senate early Tuesday morning is a provision to halt a scheduled salary increase for members of Congress themselves. The bill contains a one-sentence provision that would block a scheduled cost-of-living adjustment for representatives and senators that is due to take place when the continuing resolution under which the federal government is currently operating expires on March 27. Congressional pay has not been increased since 2009, in part because the vote is so unpopular with the public given the recent recession, the push for deficit reduction and the high disapproval ratings

I say Congress should get NO pay until the United States of America has a budget.
They aren´t worth a warm bucket of spit.
3 years with no budget..thanks for nothing Harry Reid.

#1 Right on! Right on! Right on!

I will be composing yet ANOTHER letter to my infamous politicians telling them such! And we ALL should do the same thing!

No pay raises for federal employees either; their pay is part of that unseen budget as well.
Perhaps this would prod those federal employees to demand that a budget be passed.

I would support not paying them at all!

Reply 5 - Posted by: Spidey, 1/1/2013 2:43:25 PM     (No. 9093374)

They probably have a field day with their gov´t issued credit cards anyway or the CBC going on a fact finding mission in the Bahamas. But anyway,I guess it´s a positive they rejected it but they won´t find many tears shedding about it.

To say this saves money is as laughable as getting rid of the dollar bill to save $3 billion over 20 years.

You can bet there´s millions of Obama voters who would gladly take this turned back money in.

They had to kill it since this made news the other day and people were up in arms about it.

Obama ordered a pay raise for all federal workers to cover the increase in taxes coming in 2013 and beyond.

Why should Obama`s Army pay for higher taxes when the private sector can do it for them....

The big money comes from the lobbyists anyway.

While they´re at it they need to kill all of the bucks for the zippy/mooch vacations, golf games, dinner dates, WH parties, etc. The first parasites should be forced to live the same way the rest of us are currently living. No more perks!

Reply 10 - Posted by: Sandbar, 1/1/2013 3:21:54 PM     (No. 9093415)

I believe this just kills the cost of living increase and NOT the raise Bambi decreed last week.

Reply 11 - Posted by: Momma Walton, 1/1/2013 3:22:25 PM     (No. 9093416)

How about the vice-President? Did he join them? Maybe Obama wants more for himself too!

Reducing taxes or raising taxes is not as important as "stopping" spending!

Reply 12 - Posted by: 901AtTheRiver, 1/1/2013 3:59:00 PM     (No. 9093455)

This is NOT a good enough reason to vote for this, and is probably a recognition that the bill has no chance in the House.

The sums involved are insignificant when compared to the feast of influence that Senators enjoy. Of course, that influence is invisible, while this so-called pay raise is visible.

Reply 14 - Posted by: billkoch, 1/1/2013 4:36:11 PM     (No. 9093494)

Why did obama raise the pay? He was testing his dictatorship ability. Wake up America.

Reply 15 - Posted by: Nevadadad46, 1/1/2013 4:41:37 PM     (No. 9093499)

Well, isn´t that sweet of them. I have to wonder why the idiots we elect get paid at all considering the complete lack of duty they perform. When we get a budget, they should get paid! Until that time, they should get a single loaf of bread on each payday as a reminder to them that their duty is connected to real people!! Nothing more!

Reply 16 - Posted by: TXknitter, 1/1/2013 4:42:01 PM     (No. 9093500)

I don´t care if its a 50 cent pay raise. No federal workers should get any sort of raise. Period.

Reply 17 - Posted by: Ida Lil, 1/1/2013 4:54:24 PM     (No. 9093511)

Cost of living increase? Oh Yeah that BRIBE!
Now how about gutting off those retirement millions for the long term thieves.
The Constitution never factored more than travel expense from their states to the capitol and home just once while Congress was in session.
A professional Congressional corp was never intended nor was more than a total of 2 senators and two reps from each state.
It´s amazing how we the suckers get trolled into paying so many for doing so little for our benefit.

No pay increases and no bonuses. And forget the shindigs we´ve been paying for. Then somewhere, somehow we must get someone to attack term limits.

Schools and police stations were burning in Stockholm as violent riots continued for a fifth consecutive night. Emergency services were called to 70 separate incidents, including two torched primary schools, burning shops and a destroyed library building also housing a local police unit. Despite police claiming that the situation is beginning to calm down, critics say the riots were unavoidable after years of widening social gaps in a country which has the highest proportion of foreign-born citizens in Scandinavia.

Gracin’s handler quickly stepped in, nodding to the recording device in my hand and helpfully reminding him that he was on the record.

The Obama Administration fought to keep a search warrant for James Rosen’s private e-mail account secret, arguing to a federal judge that the government might need to monitor the account for a lengthy period of time. The new details are revealed in a court filing detailing a back and forth between the Justice Department and the federal judges who oversaw the request to search a Gmail account belonging to Rosen, a reporter for Fox News. A 2009 article Rosen had written about North Korea sparked an investigation; Ronald C. Machen, Jr., the U.S. Attorney who is prosecuting Stephen Jin-Woo Kim,

As Democrats and the media continue to hammer Virginia lieutenant governor hopeful E.W. Jackson for his past comments on social issues, the Christian minister says he is battling what he calls the “mainstream media’s caricature” of him. In an email sent to The Daily Caller this week, the running mate to Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Cuccinelli said “every one of those comments has a context and were spoken in my role as a minister, not as a candidate.” In particular, the black Republican took issue with the media’s outrage over his comments on abortion.

Conservative radio host Mark Levin is very skeptical of the idea that President Obama had absolutely no idea about the IRS tea party targeting before the story broke in the news mere weeks ago. Levin declared adamantly that it is a “flat-out, bald-faced lie” that Obama didn’t know beforehand, citing prior reports by a few conservative news outlets picking up on the news well before the 2012 presidential election. Levin said, “I don’t believe for two seconds that Obama wasn’t aware of this.”

President Obama on Thursday nominated Victoria Nuland, a State Department official involved in the editing of the administration´s talking points on Benghazi, to be the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs. Nuland, a career foreign service officer who was until recently State´s top spokesperson, had long been expected to be nominated the post to replace Philip Gordon, who Obama picked to serve as Middle East coordinator for the National Security Council. Nuland´s nomination -- which requires Senate confirmation -- could come under scrutiny from Republicans who see her as playing a central role in shaping

Anthony Weiner’s New York mayoral candidacy was only made more improbable today after he revealed that he visited a Houston psychiatric facility following his resignation from Congress in 2011. Haunted by scandal surrounding his sexually explicit online communications with women, the Democratic former congressman sought treatment for his compulsive behavior from mental health professionals at the Gabbard Center. On “Fox News Sunday” last weekend, White House aide Dan Pfeiffer was asked about President Barack Obama’s whereabouts the night of the Sept. 11 attack in Benghazi. This was the night when we lost our first ambassador in 30 years, and when three other Americans were killed in an attack that lasted all night long at multiple locations within the eastern Libyan city. Since the president is commander in chief, one would think where he was and what he did during such an event would be of obvious public concern.

MARK LEVIN: So why didn´t Chairman Issa hold an investigative hearing a year ago? Why didn´t Chairman Camp, all Republicans, hold an investigative hearing a year ago, and all the other tripping over themselves right now? I´ll tell you why. Because the establishment Republicans, the RINO Republicans, despise the Tea Party. They despise the conservative movement. We exist to be managed, to be shuttled to the polling place, to vote for their candidates. The Karl Roves of the world, and all the rest of them. They fight us in the primaries, they fight us at the grassroots.
