| WASHINGTON — The House will miss the midnight Monday deadline lawmakers set for voting to avoid the "fiscal cliff." House Republicans notified lawmakers that the chamber will vote Monday evening on other bills. They say that will be their only votes of the day.President Barack Obama and Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell said Monday they are near a deal to avoid wide-ranging tax increases and spending cuts — the fiscal cliff — that take effect with the new year.

Oh-Oh. The house has deemed keeping milk prices at prices nobody cares about and aid for Alaskan fisheries is more important than the fictional "cliff.
They don´t have the votes. Say good-bye to Boehner and McConnel.

You literally have a handful of House conservatives trying to save the country from itself,while keeping promises to their districts. This at the risk of being targeted by both parties in 2014.
Boehner´s worse night mare is a cliff deal carried by House dems which could very well happen in an open vote.

I´m on board with #6. During the Carter Administration, I realized I was at odds with my party, the democrats, and registered GOP because they seemed more conservative.
If the GOP leadership caves on this, the GOP won´t get a thing from me. But, I´ll support any Tea Party candidate.

I never thought there would be a deal, and I don´t think that´s a bigger problem, that is, any deal would be worse.
I don´t think Obama cares, and frankly neither do I. Nobody is even talking about the REAL PROBLEM, which is jobs outsourced to China. Only after that is spending even a problem. Of course the mondo problems remain social security and medicare, and nobody has the foggiest ideas what to do about either of them, either.
This is all so incredibly stupid and fake.

#8, the real problem is welfare, food stamps, WIC, etc. ..they should be addressed first, then all the useless gov´t departments need to be abolished, along with much of the foreign aid to unfriendly nations..fraud and waste next..then we could talk about Social security and Medicare.

The Obama administration’s sudden plunge into scandal territory has two aspects — the actual and the political. The first, and most important, has to do with what actually happened. Why did the administration promulgate a false account of the terror attack on Benghazi? Why did the Internal Revenue Service target conservative groups for special scrutiny? Why did the Justice Department act in an unprecedented fashion toward The Associated Press for publishing details of a foiled terror plot the White House was planning to discuss openly the next day?

The birthday party will be modest and understated, in keeping with the man. Sir Nicholas Winton is 104 tomorrow and naturally some of his children will be there to wish him well. Two Metro-North trains collided in Connecticut during the evening rush hour tonight, causing at least two dozen injuries and massive delays on the New Haven Line, authorities said. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew on Friday urged congressional leaders to raise the debt limit and insisted that the White House is not going to negotiate over the increase because lawmakers have "no choice." "We will not negotiate over the debt limit," Lew wrote. "The creditworthiness of the United States is non-negotiable. The question of whether the country must pay obligations it has already incurred is not open to debate." House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) formally demanded that retired ambassador Thomas Pickering submit to being deposed by the committee next Thursday. The subpoena comes in the wake of a series of acrimonious public exchanges this week between the two men. A healthcare provider has sued the Internal Revenue Service and 15 of its agents, charging they wrongfully seized 60 million medical records from 10 million Americans. The name of the provider is not yet known, United Press International said. But Courthouse News Service said the suit claims the agency violated the Fourth Amendment in 2011, when agents executed a search warrant for financial data on one employee – and that led to the seizure of information on 10 million, including state judges. The search warrant did not specify that the IRS could take medical information, UPI said.
