| Hillary Clinton has beaten First Lady Michelle Obama to be named Most Admired Woman in 2012--and Sarah Palin came in at number five. The Secretary of State has won the accolade a total of 17 times--including the past 11 years on the trot--which is more than any other woman in the award´s 52-year history. The results are based on a USA Today/Gallup poll, which asks Americans to name their most admired man and woman living in any part of the world. Clinton, 65, finished with 21 percent of the vote this year, while Mrs Obama came in a distant

That´s interesting. And it confirms that Americans are, as a whole, an incredibly ignorant. When only a small percentage of people really know and understand (can care) about Hillary´s past and her ideology, even with everything going on, I believe that she could be the president-elect 4 years from now. They will play that "be part of history" angle all over again and the sheeple will follow.

As much as I can´t stand Hillary and question any real accomplishments she´s made,it´s still great for her to finish way ahead of MO.his is nothing but a stupid name ID poll anyway, there just aren´t that many prominent women out there. My vote would happily go to Sarah if they asked me.

Memories of decent women who deserve this recognition are short. For the most admired woman, it has to be Victoria Soto, the Newtown, CT who died shielding her students.

Meaningless ´churnalism´ meant to get the pollster´s name in the paper - other names are surplus to requirements.
Name recognition is a shallow exercise but then most voters´ understanding of issues is equally shallow.
Think of hamburgers and you think of McDonald´s. What does it prove? Nothing.

Seems, as #4 notes, that this is essentially a name recognition.
But one must ponder the mentality of people who "admire" someone like HRC.
Ask someone what she has accomplished, and the answer is a blank stare. As SOS, she has traversed the planet, tasted wine (and beer and who knows what else) with abandon. She has uttered inanities and tasteless undiplomatic statements accompanied by cackling laughter.
There just aren´t very many women to choose from. And there aren´t many admirable men in the public eye, either...
My suggestion would be our Military, collectively, as most OUGHT TO BE admired.
No, Hillary is not admirable, nor has she done a good job for the United States. The international scene is a bloody mess. a literally bloody mess, topped by the murder of the Four at Benghazi.

The year-end lists are nearly always just name recognition rather than a true admiration. First ladies are always near the top.
Andols such as a Thatcher in her day and Merkel and Hillary in ours. Even the various afflictions of mankind like Pelosi and Sarandon show up.

A 91-year-old WWII veteran fighting to prevent his daughter from evicting him from his Ohio home has raised more than $138,000 from online donors to buy back his home, easily surpassing his goal. John Potter says he´s ´amazed´ by the more than 5,000 people who have donated toward his original $125,000 goal while telling his granddaughter, Jaclyn Fraley, ´I never knew people could love an old man so much.´ After Mr Potter´s daughter sent him an eviction notice earlier this year, Ms Fraley organized the desperate fundraiser for him in April while sharing with the public his dire situation.

The return of ´animal spirits’ usually points to better times, but it’s more complicated now. On May 3 1999, Moore was one of several cities left devastated after 74 tornadoes touched down across Oklahoma and Kansas in just 21 hours. Following a path similar to yesterday´s lethal twister, the storms that struck the city 14 years ago to the month left 46 dead and 800 injured. Due to the high number of mobile homes and less robust housing in this part of the US, more than 8,000 homes were destroyed. It caused almost $1.5 billion in property damage making it the fourth costliest in the world. The National Weather Service also recorded wind speeds

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama says he is instructing his disaster response team to get tornado victims in Oklahoma everything they need "right away." Obama calls the devastation that tore through the Oklahoma City suburbs, quote, "one of the most destructive tornados in history," even though he said the extent of the damage is still unknown. Obama spoke Tuesday after an Oval Office briefing on the latest developments from his disaster response team and as Federal Emergency Management Agency Director Craig Fugate was heading to Oklahoma. Obama has declared a major disaster in Oklahoma, ordering federal aid to supplement state

Dan Pfeiffer’s job title is “senior advisor to the president for strategy and communications.” And on five television shows Sunday, he all too clearly communicated the White House’s strategy of remaining unclear on pertinent details about scandals now dogging President Barack Obama. “Fox News” host Chris Wallace pressed Mr. Pfeiffer on “one lingering question” about last Sept. 11’s terrorist attack on the U.S. diplomatic facility in Benghazi, Libya: “What did the president do that night?” After Mr. Pfeiffer tried a few end runs, Mr. Wallace asked: “Was he in the Situation Room?”

WASHINGTON – The Internal Revenue Serviced scandal today spread further within the White House and closer to President Obama. White House spokesman Jay Carney today disclosed that Obama’s chief of staff, Dennis McDonough, and other top White House officials had advance warning that the IRS was targeting conservative groups. But he insisted McDonough and the other White House officials purposely kept Obama out of the loop.McDonough “rightly chose not to take action” to inform Obama, Carney told reporters at the daily White House briefing.

The Washington Post on Monday reported that Obama’s Department of Justice was investigating journalists before they started wiretapping the Associated Press – for one, Fox News correspondent James Rosen in 2010. Their headline wasn´t "Obama Team Also Spied on Fox News." Fox wasn´t in the headline, on A-1 or on A-12, where the story continued. Newly obtained court documents “reveal how deeply investigators explored the private communications of a working journalist — and raise the question of how often journalists have been investigated as closely as Rosen was in 2010.” Reporter Ann Marimow began:

The wheels came off the Obama administration yesterday. We learned of a startling assault on freedom of the press by the Department of Justice, following the revelation last week of the unprecedented information-gathering foray by that department against The Associated Press. Then, a few minutes later, the Justice Department’s inspector general released a report declaring that the US attorney in Arizona used the leak of a confidential memo to try to discredit a whistleblower in the notorious “gun-walking” scandal known as Fast and Furious (which got two federal agents killed). The leak was called “egregious.”

WASHINGTON – A top IRS official in the division that reviews nonprofit groups will invoke the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer questions before a House committee investigating the agency’s improper screening of conservative nonprofit groups. Lois Lerner, the head of the exempt organizations division of the IRS, won’t answer questions about what she knew about the improper screening – or why she didn’t reveal it to Congress, according to a letter from her defense lawyer, William W. A senior adviser to President Obama mounted a combative defense of the administration on Sunday, saying the controversies enveloping the White House were the result of Republican lawmakers’ trying to “drag Washington into a swamp of partisan fishing expeditions, trumped-up hearings and false allegations.”The remarks came from Dan Pfeiffer, a member of the president’s inner circle, as he appeared on all five major Sunday morning talk shows in an effort to move the administration past what commentators have described as a “hell week” of controversy and missteps.

One of the questions was whether he/she was concerned about unsecured weapons in the home. Another asked whether he/she was "in a relationship in which you have been physically hurt or are you afraid of your partner?" While many Americans were tuned into news coverage of the massive damage from tornadoes ravaging the state of Oklahoma, Rhode Island Democratic Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse took to the Senate floor to rail against his Republican colleagues for denying the theory of anthropogenic global warming. Whitehouse spent 15 minutes chastising GOP senators and justified his remarks by alluding to states that seek federal assistance in the wake of natural disasters. “So, you may have a question for me,” Whitehouse said. “Why do you care?
