The EU: so where did
it all go wrong?

It is exactly 40 years since a cautiously enthusiastic Britain joined the Common Market. Today, few are celebrating. In the first week of 1973, the week Britain joined the Common Market, the Government put on a festival of European culture so that the British people could share what their Prime Minister, Edward Heath, called his “heart full of joy” at their country’s shiny new Euro-future. [Snip] A plan to borrow the Bayeux Tapestry and show it in Westminster Hall was dropped after it was pointed out that the butchery of Saxons by Normans was hardly a suitable theme

It "Went So Wrong" when the snot-filled "Euro-elites" convinced themselves that the disparate Western European Nations could be yoked together by the means of imposing a fake currency upon them all.

What a bunch of Maroons - at least OUR Obammunist only has to destroy ONE currency - the Dollar. (And if you don´t think that Our Won has exactly that goal, well, you´re too stupid to argue with.}

Thatcher called it years ago: you eventually run out of other people´s money. Especially the USA, which is now broke.

It´s happening here, too.

It was ill-conceived.

Margaret Thatcher knew that it would be a bad idea to join it.

#2 is right on the money. Lust for a share of wealth created by other people´s sweat. It will lead to eventual downfall, every single time. One hopes the Chicago Thugs ruling us would see the light.

Socialists always think they know best what everyone else wants and like our congress they get rich and the laws they impose are for all but themselves.

The cream of Europe´s DNA, the bravest and best, was destroyed in the two great wars of the 20th century. The remnant has ruled since then - with results that could easily have been predicted. The plight of Europe should at least remind us that a fool´s paradise is no paradise at all. Now that the waves of collectivism are lapping at our shores, Europe is a preview of where we are headed. The West is going down like some great ocean liner, with America still above the surface and lighted for the moment like the captain´s bridge. But the lights are beginning to flicker even here. Meanwhile, Obama and his followers are busy opening bulkheads and knocking holes in the hull to let in more water as fast as possible, apparently under the impression that this is the best way to save the ship.

The results are in and it is now evident: The past 40 years of lefty/lib/statist policies, BOTH in Europe and the USA, have departed from the tried & true historic principles of Liberty. There is no, ´´Third Way,´´ which can combine Liberty and tyranny. As Mark Levin´s best selling book, ´´Liberty and Tyranny,´´ relates, individuals have the awesome responsibility of choosing between the two, ...voting for one or the other, for they are poles apart.

The last time there was a "Festival of European Culture," most of it ended up in Goebbels´ rec room.

It would have worked out just fine, but someone in Brussels forgot to move a decimal point for the price of Spanish eggs, or was it Italian erasers? At any rate the careful central planning of balancing things to fit a shifting master plan was brilliant and all they need to make it work is a very fat check book that never, ever, needs to be balanced.

A selling point was that the USA states were united under a federal government. This was a stupid argument because the different European coungtries were in no way the equivalent of our states. There was no common language and no pressure to conform and join up with any one culture. The individual countries remained individual countries and the unelected bureaucrats in Brussels had no constituency. Anyone with half a brain should have known it couldn´t work.

One of Europe´s most powerful media tycoons has accused Google of seeking to create a digital ´superstate´ outside the control of national regulators and privacy laws. Mathias Döpfner, head of the giant German multi-media company Axel Springer, says Wir haben Angst vor Google: "We are afraid of Google." [Snip] Writing an open letter to Eric Schmidt, chairman of Google, in the German daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Döpfner said: "Google not only knows where we are going in our cars, but also what we do while we’re driving. One of US president Barack Obama´s leading campaign strategists has been recruited by Labour to play a key role in Ed Miliband´s bid for Downing Street in next year´s general election. David Axelrod, who is credited with masterminding Mr Obama´s presidential victories in 2008 and 2012, will join Labour´s general election campaign team as a senior strategic adviser, the party announced. His appointment was been hailed by Labour as a major coup, and ´´seriously bad news for the Conservatives´´, at a time when Mr Miliband has been under fire from sections of his own party for his campaign tactics. I blogged yesterday about this "segregated" Muslim event organised by the Islamic Society of the University of East London, due to happen tonight at UEL´s main lecture theatre on its Docklands campus. Much to my surprise, UEL immediately banned it from their campus. [Snip] UEL should be congratulated over this. As I pointed out, it has an "equality and diversity" policy. It didn´t know that the dinner organised by the Islamic society--which was to include a speech by the controversial anti-gay preacher Murtaza Khan--was segregated by sex and was providing a platform for an extremist. The university´s decision to pull the

Tony Blair´s religious charity has links to an Islamic extremist group being investigated by MI5 and MI6, it has been alleged. [Snip] The organisation has been declared a terrorist group in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and could be banned in Britain, despite insisting they do not have links to extremist factions. The Global Muslim Brotherhood Daily Watch, which has been looking into the group for 13 years, revealed that Dr Ismail Khudr Al-Shatti, an adviser to the Kuwaiti government and a member of Mr Blair’s advisory council, is a leading member of the Kuwaiti branch of the Muslim Brotherhood. the

Deep in the flat and featureless landscape of eastern Ukraine, it is all too possible that the outline of World War III is taking shape. Whipped up by the Kremlin propaganda machine and led by Russian military intelligence, armed men are erecting road blocks, storming police stations and ripping down the country’s flag. They are demolishing not just their own country — bankrupt, ill-run and beleaguered — but also the post-war order that has kept most of Europe and us, here in Britain, safe and free for decades. Vladimir Putin is striking at the heart of the West.

Why are the US authorities trying to extradite and imprison arguably the one man in the world with the skills and influence to bring peace, stability, and prosperity to fractured Ukraine? This week I flew to Vienna, Austria, to find out in a world exclusive interview with Ukraine´s Dmitry Firtash, the billionaire industrialist, philanthropist, and political fixer who is striving desperately to help his country forge an independent future free from the bullying of Russia and the meddling of the West in next month´s scheduled elections. And his biggest obstacle? According to Firtash, it´s Barack Obama.

The Internal Revenue Service is considering a bold move to label perks like free lunch given to workers by companies as taxable. The agency wonders if freebies like haircuts and gym memberships are a way to compensate the highly skilled rather than just a way to jumpstart productivity. After all, argue proponents of such a tax, workers at Silicon Valley firms like Google and Facebook receive free meals from famously fancy in-house eateries every day. Some companies even go a step further by offering freebies like haircuts, car services, and child care. Typical workaday folks can expect to pay for all

After presenting at the Academy Awards this year, Kim Novak didn’t want to leave her house. The Hitchcock screen siren, 81, was too humiliated to venture from her home near the Rogue River in Oregon. She read the cruel posts and Internet snark about her appearance, and it was just too much. “It got to me like it gets kids and teenagers,” she told the Associated Press. The “Vertigo” actress, considered one of the great beauties in her day, posted a note on her Facebook wall Thursday, acknowledging that she’d gotten fat injections in her face and addressing her halted

President Obama addressed the White House press corps today, announcing that with the final numbers in, Obamacare´s exchanges have attracted eight million sign-ups -- 35 percent of whom are "under the age of 35," he said. Several elements of his comments were misleading: (1) At first blush, the 35 percent stat is both significant and impressive. As recently as last month, the share of "young invincibles" signing up for plans was struggling in the 25 percent range, far short of the actuarial target of nearly 40 percent. A leap into the mid-30´s, while still shy of the goal, would constitute a major step, and would bode well for the risk pools'

When it comes to tracking the cost of Obama family vacations, there are two primary challenges. First, the Obamas are prolific jet-setters, so there are many details to track. Second, the Obama administration, clearly embarrassed by these lavish and frequent family vacations, stonewalls the release of records at every turn. But we have been relentless in pursuit of this information. Our attorneys file the lawsuits and make our case, and our investigators pour through pages of records and crunch the numbers. Imagine a vendor on the National Mall, selling burgers and dogs, who hasn’t paid his rent in 20 years. He refuses to recognize his landlord, the National Park Service, as a legitimate authority. Every court has ruled against him, and fines have piled up. What’s more, the effluents from his food cart are having a detrimental effect on the spring grass in the capital. Would an armed posse come to his defense, aiming their guns at the park police? Would the lawbreaker get prime airtime on Fox News, breathless updates in the Drudge Report, a sympathetic ear from Tea Party Republicans?
